      @@jasondiaz3231 I took a programming bootcamp located in Detroit MI. I would recommend a bootcamp to give you a competitive edge as a manual tester and will lay the foundation to become the automation engineer. The first step I recommend is becoming certified in software testing. It’s a cheap certificate( under $300) and will help you understand the testing mindset and test techniques and principles

  • @comm169
    @comm169 2 роки тому +4

    Signed up for a bootcamp and just technically finished week 2 (bootcamp is new and not mentioned in the video). Is it normal for boot camps to ask for your SSN when agreeing to a contract? Also, so far we only got through the waterfall development and some CLI commands. No actual coding so far but then again course is
    6 months.

    • @thetestlead
      @thetestlead  2 роки тому +2

      Did they give context around needing your SSN, such as for background checks?
      It is better for a bootcamp to take it slow so that you have time to grasp everything, but do you have the full course outline to see everything that is covered?

    • @comm169
      @comm169 2 роки тому +2

      @@thetestlead Thanks for replying, I totally missed this notification. Yeah, I thought they were going to do a background check but I think it was more so that they wanted to track people just in case anyone missed payments in the future (also possible legal actions). Originally, I thought they needed the SSN to make sure that everyone in the Boot Camp was eligible to get a job (since in the US). Now, I’m pretty sure it’s just to make sure everyone is somewhat tracked and make sure no missed payments occur based on signing the contract. That part they definitely didn’t slow down on explaining it. What was slow is that the instructor said we were going to start programming second week but we barely touched anything about JavaScript even though he was hinting at it. Third week (was the usual slowness), so I said to myself this is too slow for a payment of close to $800 a month to be worth it as we only covered SDLC to covering most models. Instructors up to that point were great and I understand they may needed to be slow for others who were not knowledgeable in anything about computers. The problem is that it was too slow to say the payment is worth it when you could learn the same stuff for free. The outline, if I remember correctly, was to cover the development phases and models, then programming JavaScript (unfortunately this was taking too long to get to even though it was hinted at for the second week), actual testing to be done after, and then resume building/ mock interviews to help in finding jobs after completion of the 6 month course. Basically, I ended up leaving.

      I probably should have specified they are not in a particular order. Both are really good and I actually have test pro on list for automation Bootcamps too because all of their programs appear to be good

    I know this is off-topic, but what kind of upward or advanced roles/ careers can a Manual QA Tester make besides QA Automation?

      Not off topic because I'm pretty sure a lot of other people have the same question!
      -Senior manual QA(go from entry level, to junior level, then senior level)
      -QA Lead(can be obtained after Senior QA)
      -Team Lead(can be obtained after being a software senior QA)
      You can have a lot of success in this field and never know anything about code. I work with senior manual QAs every day who have been in the field 20+ years and are happy

    I wish I could afford any of these courses. Finance has been my major obstacle

      Don't let that stop you! You can definitely learn for free or at a very low cost if you go the self taught route. Use UA-cam & Udemy I will also try to create some more videos to help educate in the space
