I start tech bootcamp this Monday for QA Manual course. I'm very excited to learn this and get the knowledge of this field. Thank you for these videos. They help prepare me on this new journey.
This video was right on time. I purchased your course last week and I am transitioning into this world from the blue collar world. Thanks for the visual of the lifestyle I will be living very soon 🤞🏽
Just came across your channel. I just signed up with Careerist and start class end of the month. I grew up in Astoria but have lived on Oahu for 4 years. I’ll take this video as a sign for positive things
Hello Justin! Great video. I'm a subscriber of yours and I recognized you from class as well. I didn't say anything at that time. I love your teaching style. Its straight forward, no fluff, and to the point. I graduate from Careerist the 3rd week of February next year. I'm hitting the market strong in the 1st quarter of 2024. I'm so close to hitting my goal of pivoting into Tech. Love your videos!
I'm 3 minutes in and this lifestyle/work video is one of the best. I love the details, especially here at minute 3:00 of what the team looks like and the names of those roles/jobs involved.
Oh that's funny I found you're channel in my UA-cam feed, I just finished up my Manual SQA course with Careerist and I see you're one of the instructors! That's awesome! :)
@@MsNadz808 small world haha, I actually used to be an instructor, but I’m not anymore because of my time commitments. I still collab with them on videos from time to time though. How was it for you?
@@thetestlead definitely a small world😊 that's nice, I started the bootcamp back in mid March. I really enjoyed it, great instruction and information! It's the best online bootcamp/course I've ever taken and I've taken a few lol I'm currently in the job hunting process, hoping to find something soon, then my goal is to begin the automation course after working in the Manual QA position for a few months.
Just started a new role as an Automation Tester here in London also. Automating api tests using Python and using Selenium for the UI. Previously used Playwright in my old role which was brilliant.
@@thetestlead about 3 years. Started as a QA Engineer, then a QA automation engineer and now a Test automation engineer. Still lots of learn and I think I still need to grasp the basics as my coding ability pushed me through to automation fast, my abilities as a QA need to be worked on
Hey, I love how you share exactly what you do in your work. Thanks for sharing it with us. 😊 I'm an incoming graduate and wants to work in the development team as a QA Tester. I was wondering which one you prefer. Manual or automation testing and why? I'd appreciate it if you were to respond. Thanks!
@@chayrybustamante2231 thanks for the reply. Personally I like automation more because I get a little more freedom and creativity with the code I’m writing. I also can find new ways to write better code and develop . Sometimes with manual QA it gets very repetitive and can lead to getting bored /stagnant
I start bootcamp next week. Im excited for the upcoming journey and the new skills i will be learning to be a QA manual tester. I appreciate this video. It was very helpful.
@@thetestlead the course was fine, but I feel like I was led to believe I'd find a job quickly and easily. That hasn't been the case, so I've been seeking a mentor.
Hello Justin, could you please make videos on hie to get remote job as a QA automation. Currently I am working as a manual tester. Wanted to switch in automation..kindly create a roadmap video..
Congrats on the channel. Really enjoyed you as an instructor from the Careerist group. Definitely have a permanent follower in myself. Wish i had known you were coming up with your own course, I definitely would have purchased! Keep doing what you're doing!!
Starting a new UAT role soon. Goal is to learn automation like you. Excited to keep growing. Any automation tips? Also, I just go back from NY so it's cool to learn that's where you're from.
Sounds exciting! I would start with learning and understanding a programming language like Python and then from there learning an automation tool like selenium. Also, see if where you currently work if they have an automation team. If so see what tools they use and specifically study those and see if you can make the change to the new role internally.
@@thetestlead I’ll definitely do so. I’ve become very interested in QA testing. I’m actually purchasing the printed version of your terminology book. And I’m taking a short course just to see if it’s for me. But I’m definitely hoping for a career pivot within tech in 2024.
I did a boot camp last year and haven't gotten anywhere with the job search so I'm feeling a little discouraged on doing another boot camp.. what's different about the boot camp that you mentioned? Are students guaranteed a job after completing the boot camp? Thank you in advance for your answer.
Hey, I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Don’t be mislead, no bootcamp can guarantee you a job unless they are hiring you themselves. Before investing any more money into more learning, I would try to sit down and figure out more why you aren’t getting a job. 1. Are you getting interviews and not doing well on them? 2. Are you not getting interviews at all? 3. When you are applying to jobs do you normally fit what they are asking for skillset wise? You can answer these questions here or send me an email and I’ll try to help you as much as possible but don’t get discouraged!
Hello future QA Engineers. I need some advice. I am not financially eligible for Careerist. I talked to them once before and my budget is not in position to attend their course, however I see where I can pay with afterpay for The Test Lead course which I am so thankful for. So I do it? Will this course be enough for me to transition into the tech field? I have no prior experience and I am ready to get started with QA Academy course. Thank you so much!
Adding a comment so this moves up on comment list and other people can see it and possibly help you with an answer. My advice before investing money in either option is making sure you have realistic goals. Many courses and bootcamps will sell you on making a crazy salary doing nothing just so you can invest in them. Money does come in these roles, but not right away, so be aware of this. Unbiased as possible* opinion a Bootcamp vs courses, neither guarantees a job, because they can’t hire you directly. Bootcamp are better for people who want live instruction, set days to learn to help with accountability, possibly connections from former graduates, meeting classmates who have the same goal as you who you can possibly speak to to help you through the process. Bootcamps do cost more than courses and with bootcamps you have to go at their teaching speed which is helpful for some and not for others Courses are more budget friendly and self paced so you go at your own speed. However you have to be honest with yourself that you can hold yourself accountable to do the work and dedicate consistent time to learn. Some courses have support where you can ask questions if you are stuck others don’t. Hope this helps!
Hi! This is a really motivational video! You are doing a great job! Our QA team is also sharing their experience in our latest video. They discussed their software testing trends for 2024
Good video thanks for your work. I have a few questions I hope you answer me this first one is it not expensive to live in Hawaii so travel at all to be able to save some money. To work as a software tester do I have to go up in level automation or can I work from ISTQB foundation level ? How long does the track take if you learn everything yourself with courses such as udemy?
Hey I will try to answer them in order, but let me know if I miss anything. 1. I was only vacationing in Hawaii and worked a few days there while on vacation. I can’t imagine with the time zone difference people being able to enjoy life. Also, Hawaii is expensive like you mentioned. 2. It depends on where you live and the requirements, but I would definitely look to improve my skillset from the foundational level. The better your skillset the more marketable you are and easier it is to find better paying jobs. 3. Depending on your learning curve and time allocation, but you can definitely learn and become comfortable with the fundamentals within a couple of months. Then I would say to focus on getting real experience even if it’s volunteer or unpaid.
Man i am really trying to get into this field. Can you please recommend a course i cant start out with that's reputable but also help with job placement. From one black man to another lol. Pleasw
There's a lot to that question, but I will try to break it down and be as transparent as possible while doing so. There are a bunch of affordable courses on udemy, but sometimes people have very strong accents so there may be a slight language barrier for some people. I also offer courses on my website, but they cost a little more than the udemy ones. As far as job placement, I don't think any course offers that. Some bootcamps may be able to help with that because they may have many graduates at a certain company, but even then it's usually shaky because the bootcamp or course instructor isn't hiring you directly so there isn't any guarantee of a job
Yes it’s possibly if you have a contract role or once you start moving up in the higher levels you can possible negotiate things like that or being fully remote. You will be using your skillset and experience to leverage and negotiate your work conditions.
Yes, you can be remote or whatever country you are in will have some type of software testing/QA job. The pay will be different country to country though
As far as the bootcamp that worked for during this video, you have to reach out to them directly l. As far as the courses on my website they are designed to teach you the information for manual and automation QA.
Hey The Test Lead , really nice video! I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail which will help your video to reach to a wider audience .
