    Notice that the Pacific has that tape-ish sound that makes the feel more "analogue", the right amount of "grit" and "dirty" sounding that makes it more natural.
    That said, regardless the samples, it's all comes back to the detailings of the mod wheels and touches, as well as the mix. So.. PSA: Don't cut corners, people! Make use of your automation!

    Great video! Also just a thought for Pacific to push the strings back a little and make it sound even more natural. Try setting the close mics for each Pacific instrument to -7db and then set the panning left or right based on if it's violins, violas, cellos, or basses. Magic! I was watching a master mixing video (of someone who mixes orchestra for a living) and he said that typical for him is to have close mics around -10db of the volume of the main mics (and -6db when you really want to emphasize the instrument). Since the main mics in this case already on avg are around 3 db louder than the close mics, moving the close mics down -7db gets you close to that sweet spot. Obviously tweak to taste. But just a thought :) cheers

    It didn't take me up to ten seconds to be pulled in by the beauty of the Pacific ensemble strings. They have such a beautiful, soulful texture to them and for someone like me who loves it when instruments sing, I think I might have just found my go-to library❤
    However, I think at the end of the day, it all depends onthe story the composer is trying to tell. For one scenario, you might want a library as expressive and somewhat "mournful" as Pacific ensemble strings or one that's slightly more "stoic" or "detached"

  • @beadlesastout
    @beadlesastout 6 місяців тому +5

    The issue with sample libraries are how the starts and endings of the samples effect the sound of the next sample played and how the pauses sound too
    Demos always sound like they are just individual notes put together rather than a played piece played live.
    If an orchestra played this piece they would play the notes in a certain way especially how you start a note. They would have a flow and work together.
    A note in the middle of a phrase would not stand out as a starting note like they do in programmed sample music.
    They never sound like the notes are flowing into the next note because they are recorded in a different way and in isolation.
    You have to play samples live as best as possible otherwise you have notes starting too early if they are programmed and the releases sound snatched.
    Orchestras dont play in the same way a pop band does or the way you produce beats. You have to play them in a way that uses their limitations rather than trying to make them fit to what you want.
    You cant just use the same midi notes for each library as they all will work differently. Each library needs playing again and then edited separately. This would stop the notes sounding incorrect and make them sound more musical and real.
    Dont use quantise on orchestral samples it really makes the notes sound fake. A string section would hold on to notes longer use rallentandos to create mood. They would emphasis starting notes or quicken starts of phrases. You only get that from live playing.

    • @itspedroteixeira
      @itspedroteixeira 3 місяці тому

      You can use rallentandos with the tempo track. No need to play it yourself or doing a bunch of clicks till you find the right spot.
      Import midi or quantize
      Adjust the tempo track like a maestro
      Use a negative track delay
      I didn't create this. The Pros did!

    • @chilloutambient1249
      @chilloutambient1249 4 місяці тому

      I wouldn't say it's "outdated". It's got its own sound and it is useful in some situations, particularly when layering. Their Con Sordino and Flautendo are very unique and sound absolutely great and beautiful. I still use it and I wouldn't be able to find any Flautendo able to compete with SCS. I Personally find that Spitfire has a lot more definition than some other libraries but I recommend to purchase a library that's suitable for the music you're willing to make. Spitfire is definitely not the best for big Epics songs.
      Most music producers (including myself) would layer multiple strings libraries in a project. I use SCS, SSS, CSS, Ark1, Ark3, Jeagger, Solo, Fluid Shorts,... It all depends on the type of music, the emotion,... And generally, we all have at least one particular patch that we love in each library we own.
      However Pacific Strings seems to be amazing, not only because it sounds great and different, but it does react differently when playing (in a good way). Definitely my next purchase.

    • @chilloutambient1249
      @chilloutambient1249 3 місяці тому +1

      @@itspedroteixeira I sometimes layer solo instruments with ensembles or sometimes I layer ensembles which is something some sound engineers wouldn't recommend (phasing). It all depends on what I want to achieve. For instance Audio Imperia Jaegger and Solo work absolutely great together.
      Regarding panning, I use some slightly different settings for better definition but still always keep violins to the left.

  • @musicproductioncentral4540
    @musicproductioncentral4540 3 місяці тому

    I listened to all of these examples. And then i listened to some live strings in a similar vane. And Pacific is by far the closest to how a real section sounds live. Not hyped. Not over detailed. No bumps. It's clear that Jasper holds overall tone/sound really high on the list. You may not get the versatility of CSS and others, but what you do get is superior Tone. Pacific has that classic, authentic tone. Spitfire Symphonic i think has a pretty nice tone, but it comes with too many shortcomings in the legato and dynamic layer/crossfade. And it has a bit of that "Hyped Highs" that i just can't get with.
