I use BBCSO, MSS, SCS, Berlin, OT Vask strings (gorgeous expressions), dozens of others. I haven’t bought TSS due to the cost- it’s not “too expensive”, just that there have been so many sales lately I can’t convince myself to spend more on a full price library. TSS is the next on my list however due to 1) timbre/ sound: clear & agile with detail that is lost on Zimmer Strings 60 cellos at once. Sometimes I want to hear the rosin flake off of the bow and notice the 3rd viola forgot to rerosin before recording! 2) it is agile in use as far as I see 3) it’s a different sound in the endless gauntlet of string libraries.
I have had to great honor of composing works that were later recorded by the Muroya Strings, as well as hearing them record live 3 times!! I am so happy we live in a time that we can get their amazing sound in a VST!! Great review of a great library!!
@@KevinKuschel I just own 8Dio Anthology, so not much options for now! I just like the tone of TSS from what I heard in your video (but the official demos didn't ring a bell). And I like the workflow a lot! I work with Infinite Woodwinds and like the absence of keyswitch. Anyway, I'll dig in and decide in 2022. Thanks again!
wow, this review easily beats some of the bigger channels, very well done! The Lookahead Mode sounds super interesting...would love to try some music in the style of "Ni No Kuni" with it...some day. :D
Oh come on, that's not fair...everytime you think you have all the string libraries you need.... :) Great video (as always) and fantastic library for sure
This video finally convinced me that I need to get this library, sounds really stellar and I love the brighter sound compared to CSS!! Only thing that sounded kind of mediocre was the super fast runs in your exemple track, which honestly is almost to be expected and very few libraries overall can pull off fast string runs unless they're phrasebased! Thanks for the excellent video!
Great video and insight on TSS, but just saw your beginners on libraries and looking forward to getting Nucleus. CSS you mentioned, but this TSS is exciting but maybe at a later date.
Well I think this review has convinced me--not that I needed much convincing. I have always been trying to get that Yuki Kajiura/Junichi Nakatsuru sound and none of the zillion strings libs I own have come close. Your piece at the end sounds VERY close. This might be the one!
Kevin I’m trying to decide between this and Areia in terms of the sound - any tips on what to listen out for? Areia seems a bit darker and perhaps more full bodied and this seems more crisp and drier. They both seem kind of close, and work well enough for fast sections. Any other advice on that?
I think Areia has a larger section size and would be better suited for larger productions, especially in hybrid/cinematic territory. TSS is focused and nicely agile, a bit crispier as you mentioned. Both are great!
The weak part is the legatos which really aren't as good as a lot of my other libraries, much less CSS. CSS is still the king of Legatos even though it's a pain to program them. TSS sounds fine, and I own it but I haven't really used it in the year that I own it to be honest. I feel like whenever I load it up, I have something else that does what it does better.
the biggest catch for me is they stay in time as i play them, i can not deal with the CSS and CSB delays anymore. its not playable. i would more enjoy to play in a lot of my parts. and with CSS legato is possible yes but with shorts no. i can never get them in time for fast action stuff. you have to do step input slowly. they say it is a -60 offset, it is not.
This library does interest me, but honestly, I can hardly tell the difference between string libraries anymore. CSS has just fulfilled everything I need so well that my ear has nothing to look for anymore. And I think if I was still shopping, this would be what was up against CSS though.
Nice vid! Well presented. This has been the most convincing presentation for TSS yet imo. Am I the only one who loathes attack overlays. They always sound poor and not at all convincing.
@@KevinKuschel thank you. Yeah it does have a wide variety of other articulations. Still debating whether this will replace CSS for me, or at least be a worthy alternative. I was writing very fast spiccatos the other day and tried various libraries like Nashville and Afflatus, and then eventually settled with CSS itself. The spiccs are so crisp and nice. Love that library to death. Only trouble with them is while mixing. You need to amp the highs and cut down the mids as it's quite dark.
Thanks for your feedback. Could you please listen into my latest 2 videos? Is the voiceover more enjoyable for you there? I toned it down a little bit there.
@@KevinKuschel You are mixed louder than the music, you are too close to the mic and you are shouting into it. We can hear the inside of your mouth. We are hear to listen closely to the library, not for a spoken presentation, and not for the inside of a mouth. Great content, otherwise.
Does TSS deserve a spot in the top strings libraries?
Yeah!
For some, not for all, but good that it's out there.
Of course!!
Yes

Amazing review and demo! This library goes in my "gotta get that one day" list
Thanks, Clic!

Wow that's awesome!! I'd love to see them play one day.
I wish more libraries had more look ahead features like this one and straight ahead samples
You reached 1000, I'm so happy for you! You deserve many more that will surely come!
Thank you for your consistent support, Blanca! :)
Damn it Kevin, I don't want to buy a strings library but now I also want to. Great review and video, thanks as usual!
Look at what you have and what you want to write. Then fill the gaps if you have the budget for it :)

Thank you for the clear and educative walkthrough. Loved it, gonna get it someday and layer it with CSS and Vista!
It really sound nice, my go to String Libraries are Afflatus and Spitfire Symphonic Strings but maybe this could be the next String library I'll buy.
#afflatussquad :D love it
My first dedicated string library!
Great video and insight on TSS, but just saw your beginners on libraries and looking forward to getting Nucleus. CSS you mentioned, but this TSS is exciting but maybe at a later date.
That workflow is pretty awesome…
Geez those celli sound amazing
I LOVE this instrument!!!!
Howls moving castle, anyone? :)

Good review, I got what I wanted to know, but 450$ is just too expensive 😞

One of these will do the job 👍

I think it helps that you can adjust the volumes of the overlays to your taste.
Audiobro Modern Scoring Strings killed CSS for me
Great review DOC !
Does this come with Col Legno and Bartok Pizz like CSS? Didn't see it in the Shorts page 😅
No Col Legno or Bartok Pizz compared to CSS, but instead 2 types of spicc, bowed + slurred legato, bowed + slurred portamento and a decrescendo.

@@5ammy13 Do you have a demo with CSS after a mix? I see people recommending it, as it's well programmed, but I don't like the muffled sound
Excellent video!
for the algorithm
Legato police is so funny!
You could work for PR companies, I now want TSS 😭
Thanks, I only want to highlights products that I genuinely like myself. I wouldn't feel good otherwise.
Please stop shouting.

Your voice is WAY too loud
Thanks for your feedback. Would you do me a favor and open my newest video? Is it better in terms of voice /music volume ratio?

That hissing noise in your voice wtf ! 🧐
Not sure i hear it. Do you still hear it in my latest videos?
