    You could sell a lot of broken jewelry. Crafters love that stuff.

    Be careful with the opal ring with the crack. Opals are extremely soft. You could loose the stone.
    The butterflies are Chinese glass and not annealed so they break easily. Yes, it can be restrung. Remove the other butterfly and make it a center dangle.

    Lump your broken jewelry into crafter lots. I use a lot of it in 2D sculpture works and in my oil paintings.
    I believe that the blue stones are lapis lazuli.
    When judging colored stones, the deeper the color, the more expensive. Also emeralds, sapphire and ruby can come in other colors than what they are commonly known. White sapphire are often subbed for diamonds. Semiprecious stones, opals, amethyst, topaz and garnets are the same.
    Diamonds are another stone that comes in every color including red. There are 35 known red diamonds going for a million dollars per carat and the largest one of those is a little over 3 carats.

    Sapphire comes in lots of colors. The purple could be sapphire. Sapphire is in the corundum family. Often thought of as blue, but can be other colors too. If it is red it is known as ruby. Purple could be amethyst. It could be fluorite. (Fluorite will often react to black light and sometimes is color change depending on light source). Alexandrite changes color depending on light source, too. But it is extremely rare and is often lab created. If you find a real one it’s worth a lot. Many gems can be lab created. Lab created gems are worth more than glass, less than natural stones.

    • @justynejaniszewski4626

      I was told Allexandrite created in a lab can be worth more than natural Amethyst

    • @laraemitchell9064
      @laraemitchell9064 Рік тому +2

      @@justynejaniszewski4626 yes, even lab created alexandrite is expensive. Amethyst (unless it is an exceptional specimen) is relatively cheap.

    It is not just sterling that cause less reaction in ears. surgical steel posts also should not cause issues. the backs often are the problem but u can buy surgical steel backs or the silicone ones. Love that you are taking the kids along on so many adventures and sales. Andrew is such a great dad.

    If it was Alexandrite you could retire. Stones that large are very, very rare! It is more than likely amethysts or rarely purple sapphire.

    • @laraemitchell9064
      @laraemitchell9064 Рік тому +1

      I agree. Amythist is in the quartz family and is quite common. Comes in all shade of purple. Value on it varies widely depending on quality and origin.
      Real alexandrite is most likely antique (sources have depleted and are just not being produced now unless lab created). The real thing is so rare, it is very expensive.

    03:55 She's not wrong.
    04:59 I'm taken with the amethyst strand.
    15:49 Indeed you would, but I'm never a fan of finding out "the HARD way" whether something contains an allergen. (When I do that with shellfish, I end up all dead.)
    16:42 The box is SOOOOOOOOOO FULLLLLLLLL of lapel pins!
    17:41 That piece is someone's knockoff of a sterling Scottish shoulder plaid pin, originally used to pin down the loose end of one's plaid (pron. PLAYED), the ancient, nine-yard form of the kilt which you literally lay down and rolled yourself up into like a burrito.
    19:55 'Zat a pin, or a pair of earrings? The stones probably are alexandrite, which has a Mohs hardness of 8.5, just softer than sapphire. However, as you and I both know, the dead giveaway for alexandrite (my birthstone, btw) is whether it changes colour depending whether it's in natural or artificial light. My IMMEDIATE reaction to those is "Mexican dinner-ring-style ear posts!" from about 1970.
    18:30 10K gold ain't necessarily "low-grade." British goldsmiths still use it ALLLL over the shop; we sold a ton of it in wedding rings when I worked at Things Celtic. And even some American goldsmiths use it, too. My university class ring is 10K white gold--which is a good thing; I carved up an 18K yellow-gold ring I once owned into little tiny bits, it was so soft.
    21:00 Those pearls are FAR, FAR too uniform in size and shape to be anything other than cultured, or maybe even imitation.
    21:50 Glass IMO, supposed to be one of those bars of "stones" to signify yer kiddies' birthstones.
    23:53 They're Statement Pieces of costume jewelry, not meant to be worn for any longer than an hour or two at a party, and then quickly shed.

    For pearls you can heat a needle and poke one in and obscure spot. If it melts is not real. That strand is also single knotted and appeared to have a double lock on the clasp. Those are both good signs. Also if they used silk to string them that's also a quality sign. 👌

    Regarding those plastic divider boxes.... some of those little "walls" between the sections should come out if you, grab hold, and pull straight up. This way, you can customize the trays for whatever sizzed jewelry pieces you are dealing with. Just keep the little walls you pull out so they can be reinstalled at a future date if you'd like.
    I hope this helps.
