- Now that budokai tenkaichi 4 is real and coming to us soon! I thought it was a good idea to check out the original budokai game and this game is really testing me now.... This tournament mode was a trial. Turns out I am also stupid and didnt know how to play.

Doto, you have to finish the rest of the what if stories in story mode to get access to Adept and Hard tournaments. The reason is because they have to have enough characters to include in it the tournaments. Once you finish unlocking the rest of the characters, then when you win the novice one, the tournaments will spawn immediately after you win 1 novice tournament.
Correct. And he needs to go and finish the second part of the story to get the rest of the characters.

Speaking of alternate costumes, I remember Vegeta having a suuuuuper stylish bomber jacket as an alternate costume!
It looked super cool when I was a kid.
Now that you mention it, I remember Goku having that same fit too! It was a slick, brown, leather bomber jacket.
8:09 What's funny about that is in Tenkaichi 3, there is a What-If where you can tag in Nail during Goku's fight against Recoome and he assumes he's Piccolo when you play as him.

Bro why do I feel like that walter white screaming in the van meme watching this series. You gotta unlock more characters by playing the second run of the story mode. Then the tournaments will spawn in the shop. YOU CAN DO IT DOTOOOOO!!!!
YOU NEED TO HAVE MORE CHARACTERS TO UNLOCK THE OTHER TOURNAMENTS, DO THE REST OF STORY MODE.
I grew up with this game since I was 10. I'm 30 now. The way he plays this is so painful yet the nostalgia is like how whiskey dulls the sting of old surgical tools digging out a musket ball.
@Viscount Rainbows🌈🦄 I'm 17 but yes it's hard to watch him play this as well! Dude doesn't even cancel combo, and even if he didn't he isn't playing correctly especially in world tournament
Glad I'm not the only one. His and Rhymestyle's gameplay through the entire budokai series, refusing to learn cancel combos and trying to raw spam supers against a high level ai, just HURRRTS.
Also that constantly letting their opponent charge ki, considering it was a computer, which basically meant they were always on the defensive against the superior ai.
I never understood why they stopped adding a world tournament mode in the latest games. It adds so much replay value.
Because... Online PVP against randoms is easier to have than a single player tournament mode... I don't actually know but that's just honestly how it feels.
@@aarondevack1912 I don't see why they wouldn't do both. Raging Blast 2 had both and is a great game. I also don't think it's hard to make an algorithm to randomly produce opponents for a string of one off battles if they already have a single battle mode. You don't even need a reward at the end. Just make it multiplayer(at least locally) to play with friends, and have an AI difficulty selector.

if they dont have a tournament mode in BT4 when it comes out imma be pissed
to add to the pvp vs single player tournament mode. the tournament mode means they have to program variable ai. why do that when it's easier to track a few stats and put people into matchmaking queues? The single player tournament modes are awesome, just mentioning why you odn't see it as much even if it seems like something that could be easy there's no telling how difficult it could actually be
Broo If u wanna unlock the other difficulties as well as characters you'll have to play the extra story missions. They're really fun, just do it. Once complete the tournament difficulties will show up in the store as u defeat the previous difficulty
Fun fact, budokai tenkaichi is not related to the original budokai series in gameplay, just named that to capitalize off the popularity. Thats why there is a name change from 'sparking' in Japan

Well that isn't that fact. The Fact is they are related by the Budokai name that Bandai kept. They just reused the name on the Tenkaichi series. The Tenkaichi series is just a set of games made from the first 3 Budokai series to make the upgraded versions which became the Tenkaichi series. It's why you can see the fighting in the first Tenkaichi game was still similar to the Budokai 3 game. Bandai also loved the DBZ game and just wanted to improve it under a new name but keep the old name as well just different developer. The real fun fact is that Tenkaichi is just the english name and Sparking! is the japanese name for the game. They named it Sparking! because they wanted to reference the Cha-La Head Cha-La opening of DBZ.

Spin the Sticks and you can mash buttons as well. Faster to Spin. But if you can use both then all the better.
Yeah, spinning's faster. Winning a clash with buttons is insane if not impossible.

A good way to grind Zeni is to find a character you're good at and make a custom set with Heart Virus/Senzu Bean on it. It affects both players and will quickly drain both of you, making each match way shorter, and you'll have the senzu bean buffer.
Hey Doto! There is still more story missions that you can play after you beat the game! You can play them by just heading to mission select in the story mode, also there are a few cool what if levels! Great video
If you want the rest of the characters, you have to do the extra story missions you get after you beat the story mode.

You can't play Adept or Advanced without enough characters. You have to beat the second part of the story to get more characters.

To ki charge its guard then double tap back while holding guard button. Im excited that hes finally playing this. I see many people having trouble with this game and i feel like im the only one who remembers the controls or how to play lol. But this brings me back and is a great game.

Haha, great gameplay man! Also here's some advice for the skillshop, the recommended section on the bottom is randomized every time you enter it so if you want a specific skill, refreshing is in fact your best way to go about it so don't buy anything you don't want!

He forgot that Tien won his first tournament against Goku. He was always fated to lose so that he may be humbled enough to win after training (learning to side step)
I really hope he reads the comments letting him know that there's more Battles in Story Mode (including 3 "What-If" Battles) than what he played!
Plus, I'm pretty sure that's how you unlock, not just the other Characters, but the other Tournament difficulties as well!
I played this game for years, and I cannot say I have ever seen a double knockout in the Tournament Mode.

I used to boot up fresh saves when I was 11 and this was new. I'd pick weak characters with no skills and work my way through tournaments buying skills on the way.

This was my first game on the ps2 absolute fav. Need more of this and legend of hercule mode. Also u can spin around your enemy if u block and click up. Loves the vids tho more budokaii
The original DBZ Budokai had the best story mode in a DBZ game for a long time in my opinion.

You know Doto isn't even pressing any buttons during the clash and just hoping he can win them.
There is "extra" missions that are unlocked after completing story mode, thats what will unlock more stuff, it also has some What if missions in there too.
See the menu give me so much nostalgia, when I was a kid behind me friend over doing 1v1s was crazy

As for transform, it's both the block trigger and melee trigger at the same time (other method is pressing all three P-G-E)
The what ifs in this game is also really great as well.
Hercule mode is another method to grind Zennies.
To unlock the other tournament difficulties is pure RNG, but yes you can refresh the shop until you get it.
(In doing this, you can get Dragon Balls which are 8,000 Zennies I believe, and getting the Dragon Balls you can unlock breakthroughs for one character with each wish, which are all the move sets for the character to use that has been set for custom)
The guitar riff from the battle theme, in the Picollo fight, is ingrained in my dna from way back in the day.

Twi nice details of the World Tournament mode In Budokai Is that:
- The narrator does a slight different tone for Player 1 and Player 2/CPU fighters. (GOKU vs... Goku)
- The artwork of the chatacter In the vs screen also changes if the character Is either on the 1st or 2nd spot
Remember when the collectors edition dropped and I got to go back to this game even knowing about cancel combos and Perfect Cell still annoyed the shit out of me in story mode 😂

Someone has probably mentioned it by now Doto but I'm pretty sure there is more optional story missions post the Cell fight that you can go back and do to unlock those other characters. It's been a while since I played Budokai, but I definitely remember there being more.

Doto when you have those clash sessions where the characters are doing those rapid punches you have to mash your buttons to win, thats why you lost two exchanges vs Goku
The funny thing is that at 3:35 Piccolo straight up did a legit two combo string haha. I started with budokai 1 but budokai 3 was awesome. How I first met Broly and I've been a fan since.
