    • @d.b.cooper1

      His workrate isn't great but it also isn't uncommon amongst many wingers & often managers prefer their wingers don't waste their energy constantly running back, especially when you rely on a good counter like we do. Truth is people just specifically watch Rashford far more in any game & get outraged. If you focus on any 1 player more than usual you'll find plenty of issues. I'm not a fanboy but I simply find it hard to constantly go in on him when it feels like 1 big massive pile on whereby he gets most the critiscsm for the wider team dropping off this season. It's just never sat right with me, i say that as someone who for years has never liked Rashford's poor body language as it's always been apaprtent watching him live at OT.

He’s far from alone with this thoug i think as a team we are perhaps the most inefficient pressing team in the e league maybe even the top 5 leagues, but for a local lad playing for his boyhood club the least I expect is effort and endeavour

  • @SanIldeBaby
    @SanIldeBaby 16 днів тому +80

    Sorry Joe, but I strongly disagree. People do not randomly decide to heavily criticise a specific player just for fun. In my opinion, there are very clear reasons why supporters are particularly critical towards Rashford. The first one being the way he carries himself (or, as others say, his ‘body language’). He jogs around the pitch, plays lazy passes or tries to shoot from miles out. He gives off the impression he believes he’s Messi or Neymar. He’s a good player when in form, but his own perception of himself is completely off, and that tends to show. The second reason is salary: ok, I give it to him that it wasn’t his decision to give him 350k a week, but regardless of that, responsibilities come with being the highest paid player on the team. He his not worth that money, neither in terms of footballing abilities, nor in terms of the level of commitment he shows.
    Lastly, I believe last season did him no good. He scored 30 goals but many of his performances were poor, which was never addressed. Cheers anyway

    Sorry Joe, he needs to be sold. The club needs a change and Rashford probably does too. He almost 400 appearances -that’s more than Beckham, Evra or Schmeichel. That’s in line with Cantona & van Nistelrooy combined! Cole & Stam combined. Yorke, Berbatov & Lukaku combined! But still the narrative is who is putting their arm around Rashford, who is helping him, who is looking after him. We’ve got genuinely young inexperienced players like Mainoo, Garnacho, Hojlund & Kambwala. Or players who have moved to a new country in the last few years like Onana, Martinez, Varane, Casemiro, Antony. But the player who has played most for the club, one of the highest earners at the club (and in the league) needs the most attention. Yet he doesn’t like playing on the right or through the middle, doesn’t really close down defenders or track back and just wants to run into space on the counter or cut in from the left and shoot

    He is a grown man, the main man in one of of the biggest clubs in the world, with a contract to match. How he acts sets the example for the team. If valid criticism is too much for him, if tracking back or pressing is too much for him when the team needs it then he needs to move on.

My question for Marcus would be does he honestly consider his effort (forget form entirely) on the field to be at an acceptable level for that salary? Form can come and go, and is for the most part acceptable and understandable. The bare minimum expected of a professional footballer is putting in the effort and covering miles... He isnt doing this! Whatever you think or say, he's still been our best forward since he came through and we shouldn't be driving out best players out. We should support them and maybe his confidence will return. Has he been our best forward, sure. But that's not exactly saying much either. We've got enough sample size in my opinion to determine that he's not fit for a future successful side imo. Can't have a forward that's injury prone, weak mentality when things are going wrong, out of form or having personal issues 70% of the time. So we have alot to gain by moving on, plus a transfer fee and £16M in wages annually. Just because we've a poor record with forwards and signings doesn't mean we marry ourself to whatever player shows a bit of spark, that's just continuing the mistake. Nolito, Jesus Navas, Bony, Dzeko, Sterling, Sane, Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus, friggin Aguero, Palmer, Mahrez, Brahim Diaz, Jovetic, etc. How many forwards and Man City cycled through. They've rinsed wingers that were in good form and wingers that could start for us today. That's the sort of ruthless it takes. Then there's our fan base clinging on to a guy that shows up every other season.

If you think scoring 17 league goals, 6 league cup and 6 europa league goals makes you a top player then your lost and perhaps haven't supported united long enough to know what real top top player looks like. I remember when Kevin Phillips scored 34 'LEAGUE' goals for Sunderland, nobody would have ever called him a top player or good enough for united, because he wasn't, having a decent scoring run doesn't make you a good footballer, you just had good form. Fans today are obsessed with numbers and dint watch the actual gameplay of the player

Selling your best players is not the way to do that and certainly not players that the local fans have a connection with and a player that represents what this club is built on. Oh come on, Joe. Justified criticism is always valid. Fans won't be fooled and can see when a hugely rewarded player is just not putting the effort in and getting a grip to fight through bad times. Mindless abuse is, of course, wrong, but your assertion that there is some kind of limit to valid, reasoned criticism, beyond which such criticism somehow transforms into abuse is ridiculous. If he doesn't like valid criticism he need to buck up and perform.
