Got my first job in this trade 2 weeks ago while taking a class in community class for HVAC and i’ve learned so much more on the job than in school and I already apply all these tips to everyday work and i’ve learned a lot and have great leads who put effort into teaching me and explaining me everything. Good video!

I went to school and feel like I didn’t learn much, so I want to apply but I know ima be judged which is kinda gay of me to think like that. Should I still try and reach out for a apprenticeship

@@berrymycawkner Yes keep trying! I have learned 100x more on the job than in school! You just need to find the right company willing to train you! I didn’t learn anything that I didn’t learn on the job at school. Only got my EPA from schooling

Great video! Most of the young guys we work with hate buying tools, refuse to work overtime, drag their feet and play on their phones. Some mornings they’ll stare at me waiting to be told what to do when it’s a continuation of the previous days. When these guys start running jobs we return the favor and work the same way they did on our jobs. On the flip side we’ll give 100% support to the young guys who gave it their all as helpers. We’ll bust our asses, work late with them, help troubleshoot after hours, whatever they need.

Hey man, great video. Hvac is a great trade to be in. The endless opportunity’s are out there. I enjoy learning and doing the work myself whether it’s service or installs. However, the last company I worked with, my experience wasn’t that great with some workers and the management. It was way too corporate. I’m grateful for the Experience. The issue I had was I was being tossed around like bxtch working with a different crew each day. I never really had a lead to learn off. At times I would forget how each lead wanted things done their way if you know what I mean. Anyways, I have an interview Monday for a hvac install helper position and they told me they move people up , just gotta prove it type of thing.

I’m happy to hear you have that opportunity coming up, sometimes it will take a few companies before you find one willing to teach you and let you learn from mistakes, because that’s how you will progress quickly! Good luck bro 🤙🏽

100%! It’s always different. Even when you’re doing the same type of job, it’s always in a different application. Somedays we have to bust our ass to get the work done. Threading and piping in 2 & 1/2 inch is no joke! I’m glad you’re off to a good start and back to work! Buy a new tool every paycheck. Buy what you can afford. Does not have to be high dollar, but not so cheap it falls apart. You can upgrade later when your a top tech.

Should absolutely ask questions DURING the work. When you wait to ask questions, you forget shit and the information doesn't stick in your head as well as it would if you had learned it while doing a task. Almost all HVAC work is slow and methodical. If anything, questioning the process should HELP your instructor. Rubber duck method.
Of course, this all goes out the window if you're glued to a dickhead who doesn't care for apprentices. I've been lucky thus far. But being an apprentice is supposed to be intimate. The things you learn are so fucking important, not just for your career, but for your safety as well as the safety of the client.
Pour one out for everyone with a shitty master/journeyman.
