Glad to see that you suffered no harm, Sam.Thank the Lord. A rude wake-up call for sure. Cab guards are a necessity in a forestry production environment.

People tend to foget that it's not only about getting the job done, but most of all about going back in one piece to your family at the end of the day.
    Stay safe bro.

Stay safe there my friend. Simplest thing can happen and bam. I log in the mountains of British Columbia Canada and you get into dangerous situations quick.

Nothing is too $$ for your safety bro!! Taylor, Callahan, Hoss and Me + would be devastated if you got whacked!! My IT company, before I sold it, supported a design company that had 15 seats (people) running SolidWorks. It's a top modeling/design software that is leased, $60k/year/seat. It's used to design things like that cage on the Mecalac. It calculates vision, so you can see, all the stress points, angles for max strength, and tells you exactly what to use, where and how to weld/fasten parts. Then runs a model and tests it. It's very accurate! Buying those is worth every penny!! Great video Sam!! 8) --gary

I had no idea that much effort went into what I thought was a simple cage. Stoked on it for sure

A good family friend just died from a snag going through an excavator cab. He was cleaning out a tree line and a snag came down at an angle and went right through his stomach killing him almost instantly.

Going to be a PITA to clean the glass behind those guards. But that's a small price for the safety upgrade.

Actually not bad at all. Can fit your arm behind them easy. We thought same as you tho.

As important, what do you if any do you carry for first aid on site? We just had our 5th kiddo so around the farm I've started carrying an IFAK (individual first aid kit) when I'm in a machine. Given the areas your working and work your doing I'm going to fanboy for Refuge Medical. If you don't have one something as simple as a CAT Tourniquet to start. If it's you and your dad maybe a Bearfak 3.0 or other kits to keep in the truck or machine. Many of the kits will carry chest seals so if you do get a windshield puncture the other one of you could render site aid while calling 911 or before rushing somewhere.

Hey Sam I have a Mecalac 6MCR I bought this year and it appears the cab across all units, 6,8,10, are the same but not close to a dealer to check. Do you know if the forestry guard is universal across all units?? Thanks man channels great I don’t subscribe to much but enjoy your videos. I’m a Duramax performance guy who bought a new HO RAM 3500 last year to pull this Mecalac so the truck stuff is good too. Thanks again.

What’s your overall opinion of the Mecalec. I’m really interested in buying one, and also running a forestry grinder on it, any thoughts, and what head to buy. Thx much appreciate all your content. It’s been extremely helpful for us. You have saved us many pesos .

I’m completely happy with it. As far as production it out performs and machine in its class that I’ve ran. Small heavy foot print is super stable. Feels weird running anything else. Wish I had a Mac sooner. And I’d prolly go with and fae bite limiter head if I had a chance to do it over

Similar thing happened to me six months ago
I was reaching way downhill grabbing and lifting brush up to put on burn pile
Got greedy and decided to grab and pull to me without lifting up and a root ball branch I couldn’t see on opposite side of the boom came up and busted my right side window and kissed me on my right cheek
    Very lucky

@@VBELTandSON too fast but lesson learned and very little blood spilled. If we all share these experiences it may help someone else. Fir me dragging brush to me I know I can’t see what’s coming on the opposite side of boom and I didn’t even realize what happened for at least a second or two of looking at broken glass on the floor!

For sure worth the coin when working in the woods!
