From what i've read over the years is that the 262's couldn't stay in the air long and the American Fighters took them out when they we're landing. They obviously had a speed advantage over the P 51's.
Only a couple 262s were actually downed when trying to land, people just parroted the myth that that was the only way they were shot down. Someone on youtube did a breakdown of all the known destroyed 262s, and very few were landing kills.
@J. Landon Pure myth that P51's could not handle the ME 262 at high speed and high altitude. On March 24, 1945, during an attack on Allied Bomber formations at 25,000 ft, EIGHT ME 262's were shot down by the 332nd and 31st Fighter Groups with no loss of bombers or fighters. The 332nd FG (Tuskegee Airman) shot down 3, while the 31st FG shot down 5 more. Max speed of a P51 in a dive exceeded 550 MPH (887+ KPH), meaning the P51 with dive speed could temporarily overtake an ME 262 at full throttle. The only hope an ME 262 had against a diving P51 was to see the P51 early enough to stay out of .50 caliber BMG(Browning Machine Gun) range, go full throttle, drop the nose a bit and RUN, trying to stay far enough ahead until the P51 dive speed bled off, allowing the ME 262 to pull away. The 50 caliber BMG on the P51 had much longer range than the 30mm cannons on the ME 262, so the P51 could get effective hits on the ME 262 at about 3 times the effective range of the 30 mm cannons. The ME 262 had to run and fly straight, no turns of any type, because the P51's much higher maneuverability, would allow the P51 to cut across the arc of an ME 262 turn, closing the gap to 50 BMG range and kill the jet.
Interesting video, but 262's wouldn't go after fighters alone What's fascinating is the piston aircraft had an advantage, they could maneuver better than the 262 , and the 262 gulped incredible amounts of fuel , as well as issues with the engines, didn't have the modern alloys for turbines
UM , Nar, will give this one away. You managed to shoot down more ME 262's in this engagement, than actually happend in reality. Well done. Actual reality bites the dust when you can use a computer to change it....
Always wondered why the me262 engines weren't targeted. It flys like brick with one engine out. The jumo jet engines were finicky, one 50 caliber round takes out the turbine.
it’s because the me 262s were just too fast to get a clear aim at, so the pilots just tried to shoot at it and hope that their rounds atleast did some significant damage as it got close
The ME 262 wasn't great in the dive or turn, and their acceleration was poor compared to the really good piston engined fighters. Their superior top speed took time to reach while the jet engines spooled up. Once the allied pilots understood what they were fighting, they did much better. Bottom line: the 262, while a great advancement, was never meant to dogfight.
262's weren't made to dive. They weren't designed to dogfight, especially against the best piston fighters like the '51. They were designed to fly in a relatively straight line at high speed & unleash their heavy (albeit slow-firing & low m.v.) cannons at bomber formations.
This is such BS. During the actual war P51 Mustangs couldn't do much to shoot down an Me 262 Jet. They had to resort to finding the air fields and bombing jets that hadn't taken off yet. The Messerschmitt was such a superior aircraft that the Allies really didn't have any other way to defeating it.
Most 262s were shot down coming into land or getting airborne. I don't think they ever got into dogfights. If they did, this was very rare. They used the boom and zoom tactics because of the speeds the 262 had. No way they would have used the 262 in a turn fight with the piston-engine fighter. All of these Pilots who flew these machines were Experts.

Hey guys the film was originally a video game. To play the game you needed a joy stick, although you could play it with a key board, I found it more fun using a joy stick. The IL-2 Strumovik games were nicely made and very interesting.
In space no one can hear you scream. P-51 doesn't whistle when your inside it. All you hear is the roaring din of the Merlin's raw exhaust. Long escort missions were a tough boar to ride.
The Me-262 was indeed faster than the Mustang but the pilots who flew the jets were inexperienced as hell that their jets slowed down when they tried horizontal maneuvers
Nah most me262s were flown by the best pilots Adolf Galland got together the best experts and called them so yea 262s were shot down by allied pilots but they were passing shots or on takeoff and landing when the jets were vulnerable
@@904_Florida yes but the best flew the 262 former bomber pilots despite vast experience transferred very poorly to fighters read accounts by wartime German fighter pilots said stating so
If the Me-262s pulled up or turned they would lose speed and become vulnerable. The Me-262s could also have been heading back to their base when they were usually very low on fuel (the range of the Me-262 was terribly limited, they were major fuel hogs). They could also have been lining up to land when they were extremely vulnerable. Allied pilots would often loiter around the Me-262s home base waiting to pounce on them. In this video the Me-262 pilots looked to be surprised by P-51s diving on them. The response of the early Jumo jet engines was extremely sluggish. They could go very fast but it took a while for them to get up to speed. They couldn't always pull away fast enough especially when surprised during landing. Many if not most of the P-51 victories over the Me-262 came when the Me-262's were most vulnerable, like landing. IMHO the Me-262 wasn't nearly as effective as the FW-190 due largely to its extremely limited range and sluggish and unreliable jet engines.
The ME-262 was at least 100 mph faster than the Mustang, even though the P-51 was the pinnacle of piston engine design. The ME262 pilots were inexperienced because of the shortage of trained ones towards the end of the war. An experienced ME-262 pilot would smoke and piston engine plane
Not necessarily. The speed advantage gave them the option to do 'boom and zoom' attacks, but if they tried to engage in dogfights with the Mustangs they were at a disadvantage. Similar to what was the case with F6F pilots going against the Zero in the Pacific - Boom in attacking, and then Zoom out, but don't engage in a turning fight with a more nimble opponent. Also, the 262 was vulnerable during take-off and landings, while their engines were spun down. It was a common USAAF tactic to ambush the jets at these times. During the war, the ME-262's generally weren't bothering with the the American fighters anyway, and would actively try to avoid them. Their real target was almost always the Allied bombers.
But the 262´s were much better. One Mustang kills two 262´s What were doing the other 262´s when his friend has been chased? Also was funny watching P-51 chasing Messerchmitt 262 what is much faster.
Thr Packard Merlin's on our mustang s where exceptional sturdy and quick to react to throttle ups, the Junkers Jumo Turbo rocket did not have that luxury. But those AA 88 were really Bad news if they scored the engine 🤣. Great video though and a realistic situación.
No mustang could get a bead on a 262 unless the 262 pilot flew into the shot( lead) which they did ooops (deflection) or was slowing to land. a 262 could keep a 100 mph advantage in most configurations and could just climb away where the P51 couldn't breath. The P47 however, could dive away from a 262 and once regaining altitude surprise the jet jocks - fat boys win sometimes and the 47 could absorb lead. The mustang gets a pinprick leak in coolant and out of service.
That lead was a 30mm MK108 minengeschos. Not one but 4 of them. A single one which was mounted in the nose of Messerschmitt 109s took one hit to decimate a fighter. I know there were cases where Thunderbolts took massive punishment from Focke Wulfs and kept flying but it has absolutely zero chance against that cannon. It's just way too powerful for a fighter to handle mostly because they were intended to shoot down bombers.
The P47 M could deal with the ME262 in a boom and zoom maybe on a lucky pass in a power dive. P51 Mustang was better with dealing with the Swallow on landings and takeoffs when power wasn’t spoiled up to full power , otherwise forget it !!
+WindWard The ME262 was a 1st generation jet with a lot of developmental issues that took until well after WW2 for the Brit's, Russians and Americans to work out the jet bugs. However, for its time, the ME 262 was arguably the best jet design. The problems the ME262 had going up against the P51B/C/D would have been the same an American P80 or British Meteor would have had going up against an FW190D or ME109K4: a 1st generation jet with all its bugs going up against piston engine fighters at peak, mature development. Under those conditions of being in early development stage, none of the early jets could really be effective against mature-technology piston engine fighters. The best a jet could hope for is to stay roughly on an even playing field. The ME262 more or less managed to do that against the P51, although the P51 likely killed a few more ME262's than ME 262's killed P51's. P51's were credited with 121 kills of ME262's between NOV, 1944 and MAY, 1945, and about 70% of the kills were during attacks on bomber formations at 25,000 ft or higher altitude. So it is a myth that the P51 could only kill the ME262 during take off and landing. In addition to the 121 Kills of ME262's by P51's, another 25 were killed by P47's, and Spitfires / Typhoons were credited with 22 kills of ME262's. The P51 killed the most ME262's because the jet was ordered to destroy bombers, while the P51's were ordered to both protect the bombers, and to klll the Luftwaffe, so the collision between the P51 and ME262 was inevitable, a "perfect storm" so to speak.
If your confused why are the p51s are catching up on the 262s because the p51s would need to drop there fuel tanks or there was no fuel tanks so there catching up on the 262s
It should be noted that by statistic the US lost more than 2000 P51s in aerial combat (this against a few hundred German fighters). All in all the US lost 18000 airplanes in combat (accidents in training and ferry not counted). The sheer numbers only helped the US to gain air superiority !
I just do not think the P-51 could stay anywhere near the ME in a tail chase.Thats a hit and run plane not a dogfighter unless you out of fuel in the pattern.I did enjoy it a lot.
The 262 is about 100 mph faster than the 51, but they didn't always fly flat out. Still a 262 should be able to out run and out dive a 51, even if he is surprised by the 51. Still there are recorded 51 victories over the 262. I understand the 51s would orbit looking any 262 trying to land or take off.
This video shows the props gaining on the jet fighters, that doesn’t seem realistic at all. My understanding is that in reality most of the German fighter jets were lost while attempting to land, not in aerial combat.
I would like to hear some commentary...maybe I missed it. How did the 262 handle? What were the pilots thoughts? Thw armament seems good vs a bomber but overkill for air superiority. I would have 2 30 mils and more smaller caliber myself. How is the pitch, roll, thrust, climb, etc... always thought this plane if used right and had good pilots could have been a game changer if mass produced just a year earlier.ps: my Dad earned his wings at the end of ww2 (age 17 lied about his age) and flew the mustang in Korea.
The 262 pilots had to be careful with the throttle or they would burn up the engines. Nobody on either side had the metallurgy to keep the type of engines they had from failure due to the heat firewalling the throttle generated.
unrealistic video! Even the most inexperienced ME 262 pilots knew their straight line speeds allowed them to escape the P51s. And also how a.ME 262 could shoot down a P51 with the "HIT AND RUN" method used in the Pacific by US planes to shoot down Japanese ZEROs! The ME 262 was only vulnerable during landing!
Natürlich war die ME 262 besser und schneller als eine Mustang (deutsch Pferdchen oder Horse), deshalb nahmen sie Reißaus nur wenn eine ME in der Nähe war.
Good show but highly unlikely as a P51 could NEVER catch an ME262 much less take down two. The most successful fighter against the ME262 were the Hawker Hurricanes. Most ME262 planes were lost at take off or lading when their speed and manuvarabilty was extremely poor. Although these videos are fun to watch, my father was a WWII pilot who flew Henkel and Stuka in WWII so I would appreciate a little more true historical content.
Mustangs flew at 703 km/hr (440 mph) while the 262 cruised at 464 mph and would hit 515 mph without issue. Greater success by Mustang, Thunderbolt and Lightnings was when the 262 was landing or taking off. I couldn't loiter like Mustangs coming into Germany with tanks so they engaged and then retreated to refuel and got followed down to their bases.
While the level flight speed of a P51 was about 440 mph @ 25,000 ft, the P51 could easily exceed 550 mph in a dive. So if a P51 were about 2,000 or 3,000 ft higher than the ME262, then the P51's dive speed could actually overtake the jet, and the P51's laminar flow wing bled the dive speed off slowly, allowing the P51 to maintain 500+ mph for as long as the plane could remain in a long shallow dive. The ME262's jet engines were very slow at throttle response, so if the jet slowed down, it was at the mercy of the P51's fast throttle response and acceleration. For an effective gun run on American bombers, the 500+ mph jet had to slow down against the bombers traveling at about 1/2 the jet speed, and at that point the ME262 was extremely vulnerable to P51's. Another advantage the P51 had was that the 50 caliber Browning Machine Guns carried had about 3 times the effective flat-shooting range of the 30mm cannons carried by the ME262, meaning the P51 could get effective hits on the ME262 at ranges that the 30mm cannon could not possibly hit the P51 from.

262s lost more speed than the p51 and accelerated a lot slower than the p51. What you are implying is that the red tails never killed 262s even though they did
@@fabolousnature3873 no. The me 262 lost a lot of speed when they maneuvered they killed fully functional 262s the pilots were incompetent. Stop making excuses
The p 51 was able to turn into a pass in to a 262 when it passed through but only if they saw it coming and knew it would have to pull up to climb
Believe in a different result when (3) Me 262 meets one single P-51? !
with a speed disadvantage of 150 MPH this is all wishful thinking
That 150mph advantage took a long time to gain, time a 262 doesn't have after a turn so yes this is in the realm of possibility
Interesting video, but 262's wouldn't go after fighters alone
What's fascinating is the piston aircraft had an advantage, they could maneuver better than the 262 , and the 262 gulped incredible amounts of fuel , as well as issues with the engines, didn't have the modern alloys for turbines
"The first time I saw a jet, I shot it down" Chuck Yeager
Wtf is the 262 doing here? He's way too slow. Why didn't he dive properly. He literally stalled on front of the P51
@@wanyelewis9667 so why didnt he have high speed then. Thats like the first Jet lesson: keep your speed up
A 262 pilot who prefers to bail instead of shut the engine down and a p51 that pass over the enemy airfield instead of go arround it
It's a game, cowboy.
And catch them when they were landing.
bunk. The mustang is a very effective fighter but it could only hit the 262 when landing or the off run.
Max speed. P - 51 - 704 km/h ME - 262 - 855 km/h

"Such a beautiful plane... I actually felt bad shooting at it."
In space no one can hear you scream. P-51 doesn't whistle when your inside it. All you hear is the roaring din of the Merlin's raw exhaust. Long escort missions were a tough boar to ride.
Great vid but i think the 262 should have gotten a better chance :/
Watch out for cockpit windows they might hit your wing 😂
Not seen such a crap for a long time. A Mustang flies faster than a ME 262
The Me-262 was indeed faster than the Mustang but the pilots who flew the jets were inexperienced as hell that their jets slowed down when they tried horizontal maneuvers
dogfights are not flown at max speed, learn a bit more about fighter tatics
Nah most me262s were flown by the best pilots Adolf Galland got together the best experts and called them so yea 262s were shot down by allied pilots but they were passing shots or on takeoff and landing when the jets were vulnerable
@@sizzler2462 At the end of the war however, it was a mix of BF-109 pilots and even Junkers pilots.
@@904_Florida yes but the best flew the 262 former bomber pilots despite vast experience transferred very poorly to fighters read accounts by wartime German fighter pilots said stating so
Not to real for so many reasons if you listen to how the allied veterans said how they had to fight the german jets.
Why are the faster Me-262 moving at same speed as the slower P-51s ?
Stupid propaganda 😂
Scary proposition tail surfaces damaged
That’s a close call , control surfaces damage, you would’ve had to change your underwear!!
You know what the P-51Ds with the red nose and tail fighting these ME-262s reminded me of the Tuskegee Airmen escorting bombers into Germany in 1945.
Yes
P51 Mustangs we’re the greatest fighting machines! I love this video!
But the 262´s were much better. One Mustang kills two 262´s What were doing the other 262´s when his friend has been chased? Also was funny watching P-51 chasing Messerchmitt 262 what is much faster.
Excellent video I loved it
Guys i here to say that Tj not upload untill next week becouse he be out town visiting he's grandma for thanksgiving
Realistic?! Do you know what top speed has 262?! And in the dive?! The Mustang couldn't chase him for so long.
Must have had the only P51 in the war that was able to overtake take a ME 262 in level flight.

Well done!
Looking at the markings of the p51 planes it looks like the red tail squadron who were all black pilots and is an historical fact lol
Nice vid man the me262 is really close to the p51 I like it really good fighters
5:18 “aint-aircraft” lol
It’s so rare to see mustangs that are green.
The P47 M could deal with the ME262 in a boom and zoom maybe on a lucky pass in a power dive. P51 Mustang was better with dealing with the Swallow on landings and takeoffs when power wasn’t spoiled up to full power , otherwise forget it !!
I'm wondering if the ME262 was OVERENGINEERED or UNDERENGINEERED.
Its the KI that doesnt do anything against being shot down :)
It was the best the germans could produce with their lacking resources.
The engine of a 262 had a life span of five hours, before it was burned out. Mustangs fly to this day.

It should be noted that by statistic the US lost more than 2000 P51s in aerial combat (this against a few hundred German fighters). All in all the US lost 18000 airplanes in combat (accidents in training and ferry not counted).
The sheer numbers only helped the US to gain air superiority !
The more maneuvrable Volksjäger would give the Mustang the struggle of her life!
PROPELLER AGAINST JET - HAHA, FUNNY FICTION.
Must be a software limitation that so often these planes turn on a dime without the usual banking, etc.
Inaccurate. The Me262 would NOT have missed at 8:00, the Mustang would've been TOAST.
It was a cool video but the Krauts would never waste that much anti-air ammo on a lone fighter.
I just do not think the P-51 could stay anywhere near the ME in a tail chase.Thats a hit and run plane not a dogfighter unless you out of fuel in the pattern.I did enjoy it a lot.
This is accurate. In hindsight I probably need to craft the next one a little more like that.
Un Mustang no hubiera tenido ninguna oportunidad frente a un Me-262. Saludos.

Next video: P-51 mustang vs sukoi 35. P-51 wins.
Any p-51 pilot who flew like this was quickly shot down or kicked out of the air force. Ridiculous, no wing man not enough fuel or brains.
Cool video
The 262 is about 100 mph faster than the 51, but they didn't always fly flat out. Still a 262 should be able to out run and out dive a 51, even if he is surprised by the 51. Still there are recorded 51 victories over the 262. I understand the 51s would orbit looking any 262 trying to land or take off.
I don't think so...maybe on landing or takeoff, but not topside.
Could you do a video when the red Tails clashed with the me262s?
this is why you never mess with mustang
nice video .
This video shows the props gaining on the jet fighters, that doesn’t seem realistic at all. My understanding is that in reality most of the German fighter jets were lost while attempting to land, not in aerial combat.
Good video!
The 262 was a hit and run fighter. Mustans could only catch one while diving to gain airspeed.
Mustangs
This was filmed in dreamland?
damn this is some fantasy type of shit. inferior plane takes out multiple opposing planes without issue.
unrealistic video!
Maybe you can show us you're real life experences flying these planes.
Or with a malfunctioning engine which was common.
Natürlich war die ME 262 besser und schneller als eine Mustang (deutsch Pferdchen oder Horse), deshalb nahmen sie Reißaus nur wenn eine ME in der Nähe war.

Nice video tj3
Good show but highly unlikely as a P51 could NEVER catch an ME262 much less take down two. The most successful fighter against the ME262 were the Hawker Hurricanes. Most ME262 planes were lost at take off or lading when their speed and manuvarabilty was extremely poor. Although these videos are fun to watch, my father was a WWII pilot who flew Henkel and Stuka in WWII so I would appreciate a little more true historical content.
Это результат голливудского сценария! Осталось только вручить "Оскар" за.... но война очень отличается от павильонных съемок! Well done
How are the slower Mustang catching up to the Jets?
