Spring Over CJ7 on 36” Super Swampers

- John’s Spring Over 1984 CJ-7 is timeless! It’s the perfect mix of new school and old school. The Jeep has a mid 90’s multiport fuel injected 4.0 engine that is mated to a T-5 transmission and Dana 300 transfer case with 4:1 gears. The rear axle is a custom WFO built Dana 60 that started from a 78 Ford F-250 rear. It was narrowed to 58” and has 35 spline semi-float rear axle shafts. It runs 11” Ford racing drum brakes, billet housing ends, with an ARB air locker and 5.13 gears. The front axle is a WFO built Dana 44. It started as a 1979 Chevy truck front axle, and was also narrowed to 58”. It has flat-top knuckles, WFO high-steer, chromoly axle shafts, ARB air locker, 5.13 gears, and F-150 5 lug outers on Chevy small bearings spindles. The suspension is a Spring Over Axle, using BDS wrangler 2.5” lift springs all the way around. The springs were installed using a WFO shackle reversal kit, and WFO heavy duty spring hangers, shackle hangers, u-bolts and spring plates. A custom cross-member and skid plate was installed, along with a 1310 CV rear driveshaft, WFO torque arm, and 1310 long slip front driveshaft. The Jeep also runs Hydroboost brakes. To top if off, the stock CJ roll cage was added on to. Drive it every day with the factory AC blowing cold, or hit the Rubicon!
Good to know I'm not the only one that rolls around with the top off and the AC blowing.

I love it. I miss classic jeep builds on leaf springs. This one had NICE upgrades. The axles are awesome as is the spring over and shackle reversal. It's a beauty. The air conditioning looks same as that in my 89 YJ. It was an aftermarket AC that looks just like that in the CJ7

This makes me miss my CJ-7 I had it looked just like this Royal Metallic Blue with the hard top sitting on 42" Super Swampers only mine was the constant 4x4 automatic.

I had an 82 CJ7, air conditioning, automatic trans and 31” tires. If I locked the steering all the way to one side and punch the gas I’d be up on two wheels. They were truly not designed for highway use.

Mines getting there. Currently, AMC 360, Holley fuel system, NP435, D300, stock spring over (will change springs and shocks when I D44 swap it, still on stock axles until I source FSJ axles.
FINALLY !! something not with 17" wheels... 15" as they should be...
Out of the cj era the 7 is long enough to ride decent
I love these classic builds!! I have a very similar setup on my jeep cj7 using the same suspension components and alot of your products! i set it up 3.5" spring under. Still needs some tweaking on the steering but im determined to get it dialed! Maybe someday you can do a walk around with mine!!
How does she ride on that suspension?

@@xmo552 the wfo shackle reversal hanger uses yj width springs, I used rear springs in all 4 corners

I have an axle tech question. Im building a waggy 44 front for my cj. I was given the housing for free so i dont have knuckles or diff cover. Can i run my cj outers on the waggy 44?

Beautiful! I have a similar setup in my stretched 7. Spring over on RE 1444s and XJ rears, 38 SXs, gm D44 front and D60-2, Genrite tube fenders, Question, what is the part number for the Bilsteins you used F/R and the HD diff covers? Thanks!

the factory never sold the cj-7 with a "roll bar" it is called a "sports bar" as it is NOT rated as a roll bar and will not provide any safety factor in a roll over.
Real Jeeps have two doors.

No not at all
Is that what all JK owners think? My CJ7 rides better off road than my JKU.
