Adam played this piece at the perfect tempto. Other pianists have played this piece slightly faster which obviously he could and does have the ability to also. I think his accuracy and expression are perfect!
Thats what I thought when i heard this and the hungarian rhapsody, too. Gyorgy seems to really feel what hes playing while e.g. Ling Ling is just playing everything like a fucking speed deamon.
Adam is one of the only pianists who really knows how to present the piece as a whole story rather than individual sections with expressive and nuanced tempo changes. Although there are some pianists who share the same maturity as Adam to be okay with playing something slower and to be expressive with the tempo, Adam is easily the only one I've seen who really tells a story with what he's playing and it doesn't feel like dozens of tiny 5-10 second pieces separated by all of the ritardandos and accelerandos being used for expression by other pianists. I notice so many here commenting about how they appreciate Adam's willingness to not play it at warp speed, but tons of pianists do that, so I've never understood why people point it out. However, nobody seems to really connect the whole piece like Adam does.
This is so true. I just listened to langlang and evgenny kissins recording of this piece. Virtuosity is what they care most, not much about musicality.
Én rap zenét hallgatok.... de gyerekek ez egy CSODA ! :) amikor ezt a művet hallgatom egyszerűen boldogság és nyugodtsag fog el , és kerít a hatalmába :) megunhatatlan ! Le a kalappal
Finally I find a performance of this that I like! I feel that many pianists sound rushed playing la campanella, but here finally is someone who manages to bring out and underline its melody. Well done Mr. Gyorgy,
I always keep returning to this video to listen to Gyorgy's rendition, Amazing pianist. His interpretation had a major influence on my recording of this piece. Thank you for sharing LAZLO. Dawid
1:35 is the equivalent of a bass drop to me. it's like you're not expecting what's next, then it happens and you're shocked and excited because it just sounds SO GOOD
I like how he plays it. I feel as though he really shows the artistic beauty in this etude. I am currently learning this piece and the piece actually is learned pretty quickly. Lol
Imagine how much he had to practice to memorize that.. If I were to play flawlessly like that, it would take me my whole life to achieve such a goal.. good job Adam!
Chapeau!! This is an amazing execution... I've been looking all over youtube for someone who gives the tiny bells feeling, and keeps a tempo all the way. Donatella Failoni's has always been my reference (I can't play piano, it's only my ears judging) now I'll have to go back and compare...
I don't know why people just want very fast to prove their skills It's not a competition on who is the fastest It has a perfect tempo to play at and I think Adam did it perfectly
I genuinely love Adam's style, such a melodic tune and great care, as though caressing a babies head; though he lacks passion in flaming songs, he is an undoubtedly amazing pianist
I don’t understand people commenting on this being perfect tempo, a and other pianists are doing it bad since they play fast...... To evaluate the performance of a piece you need to understand the composer of the said piece. Liszt was more of ‘performer’ and a show off than of a soulful pianist. He gave utmost importance to personal looks, and the speed and difficulty of a piece. He was the one who popularised that pianists should sit sideways and show their face to the audience. So la Campanella, amongst many of his work, is defined on high speed too. Lisztomania was very real back then.
He's playing is with so much more feeling than he did in 2003. I love how he slowed down! :) Sounds much more fluid, with each note being ennuciated to such a crystal like clarity.
not only at this etude but in every piece he chose a good tempo . And every time the music sounds different it's like he playing not the 3 rd etude but something else
Am I the only one who doesn't see La Campanella as the most impressive piece of all? Like I find Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 for some reason way more impressive (I really like his version).
Ryan Dewberry Maybe the reason you find his impressive is because he's the only person so far that hasn't played it way too fast and completely taken away the beauty of the song haha.
Ryan Dewberry La Campanella is ridiculously hard, but from your comment im assuming you already know that, but when played at the Allegretto Tempo and in 6/8 time which is what Liszt wrote then it is much harder than the Rhapsody. I can play both pieces, and La campanella is much harder than the Rhapsody, but both are very hard. Edit: He originally wrote Allegretto with 176 on a metronome, making it Vivacissimo which is even faster
God, this is so much better than his 2003 version, although both are great. I LOVE it when you play this as allegretto instead of whipping through it allegrissimo or as fast as you can play it. You can really hear each shake of the bell this way!
have you heard adam playing the hungarian rhapsody?? i suspect you have, but incase you haven't yo ureally should give it a listen... adam's interpretation of it is in my opinion one of the greatest bits of piano playing of all time
How sweet. The way it should be played. Not butchered like so many other notable pianists. Tempo is perfect. No theatrics. This guy is top tier pianist. He's up there with Andsnes and Blechacz.
Amazing rendition of a piece that is much more difficult than it seems. It would be easier to go full speed, swallow a few notes every now and then and be done with it. Instead, it's all about delicacy. notes (Campanella means tiny little bells...) Notes must follow each other very clearly with an amazing regularity and that is the hard part. Very few pianists can play this piece perfectly. It's Evgeny Kissin favorite encore and he plays it amazingly well. So does Adam Gyorgy, his technique is flawless, his interpretation is superb
Jean-Philippe Mathieu When I wrote that last month, I didn't say what I meant to say really, I meant to say it's much harder to play really fast while not hitting too many wrong notes
Adam played this piece at the perfect tempto. Other pianists have played this piece slightly faster which obviously he could and does have the ability to also. I think his accuracy and expression are perfect!
+Craig Opperman Yes, i think that any faster would really butcher the song.
TheMelopeus jenius man can
Craig Opperman Yas!
yes other famous pianists aim for speed all the time trying to be compete w each other, this is a perfectly played song
Thats what I thought when i heard this and the hungarian rhapsody, too. Gyorgy seems to really feel what hes playing while e.g. Ling Ling is just playing everything like a fucking speed deamon.
