Great video, got me where I needed to go on the brush not spinning problem. ALTHOUGH: one thing you may want to consider before replacing the switch or splicing wires is popping the red toggle off and CLEANING THE CONTACTS. I did that with alcohol and a qtip then blew it out with compressed air and the switch started working again. No need to take anything apart other than popping the switch assembly out and removing the toggle. No screw, no cut wires. Hopefully that’s all you folks need to get your vacuum working again.
Thank you Jerome, the microswitch was the problem. There was a small piece of plastic that was preventing the switch from working properly, so I took a razor knife and trimmed the small obstruction and now it works fine. I find it interesting that it just now happened after we've been using the vacuum for about 8 years. Another mystery of life!!!
This man and his video just saved us $200! We were going to purchase a new Shark until we saw this video. We followed the instructions and it was exactly as you stated it to be! We cannot thank you enough for putting your video out there for all to see and benefit from. Thank you for being so generous with your knowledge, Jerome Robinson!
I made a deal with my wife that if I fixed her vacuum, I could take 50% of the money we save buying a new one.....and apply it to a new guitar amp. Your video was right on....it was the little microswitch that was the problem. I bypassed the switch by cutting the wires to the switch, soldered the wires then put heat shrink tubing on the connection, and VOILA....working vacuum cleaner.......but sadly no new guitar amp. I was told that money was going to stay in the household account for food. Sad but true....but thanks so much for your video. It was right on the money. And maybe some of the money we saved will go to a nice 6-pack of beer. One can only dream.....
Just fixed my shark using your video. Thanks for the info for an easy repair. Spliced the wires, used a crimp type wire nut to secure them and it works perfect. Thanks again.
Thank you so much! My vacuum was under warranty and this is NOT covered! $90 for the replacement and $25 for shipping is what they told me today so I went to UA-cam & there you are! I had no clue how to fix it, it's fixed!
Thank you! Easy fix like you said. Saved me $300 not having to buy a new one. The only downside is that the brush is always spinning when the brush roll button is depressed. A minor inconvenience to have a working vacuum.
Thank you for this video, I was just about to take to a repair shop. You saved me $$$. Vacuum works perfect now.. If you know which end of a hammer to hold, this task is simple, again, THANK YOU !!
Thanks so much! I really like my Shark Rotator. I bought it from a Kirby service shop that was going out of business. When I brought in my old one my ancient Kirby he was working on it and I asked about the trade-ins on display. He recommended the shark over repairing my Kirby. The Rotator is far superior.
Thank you so much for the simple and quick video. We took apart the vacuum, and cut out the green little part, connected the wires again and tried out the vacuum, FINALLY the brush roll started spinning and actually sucking up hair and dirt. Before doing this whole operation, the green brush roll light was lighting up but the actual brush was not spinning. To be honest with you we were ready to get rid of this vacuum and get a new one-we had no hopes that this trick would work; but it did, and I’m elated. On the Kohl’s website this vacuum costs $229.00 so we saved a buck. 👏🏼💲
Love your advice on overlapping while you vacuum. Thanks for this video. I recently obtained this particular vacuum because a neighbor was moving. She warned me the brush goes out from time to time but she would kick it to get it going again. I’ve had a few incidents where I needed to do the same but it seemed like it was pretty damaging long term. Thanks again for the video, I’m confident this is the issue with mine.
I fixed one of these today found it at the dumpster, UA-cam has helped me again, thank you for your help Sir glad you were there to help you vlog made the difference,Winning.
We just did this and IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!! Make sure to splice the wires everyone, electrical tape and you’re ready to go!
Thanks man. I cut the switch off at the solder and put a wire nut on it so it will work temporarily while I order the switch to fix it correctly. I greatly appreciate it!
I’ve had a Rainbow and a Kirby and now I have the Shark rotator professional and there is no comparison to the first two. This machine, Shark, KICKS ASS. I have a pug, and if you have ever had a pug? you would know that Pug hair are similar to barbed fish hooks and the my former Rainbow and Kirby couldn’t pick it up, the Shark picks it up on first pass. This machine is truly amazing!
Great instructions! My model is slightly different (UV810) but found the switch mounted in a screwed-on housing, unscrewed the housing, removed the switch and shorted the two wires and fastened with a wire nut. Also checked the NO switch with an ohmmeter and it appeared to be working. Reassembled the Shark, turned it on and...brush roller still not turning! Oh well, I disassembled the motor housing several times previously and all appeared to be fine. I suspect a broken wire somewhere in the wand connections since the brush ran properly each time I disassembled the unit until my wife removed the wand for cleaning with the wand. At that point the brush stopped and would not start again. Still, great idea to fix most Sharks, just not mine.
Thank you so much for the video! My Shark rotator stopped spinning a couple years ago so I bought a new shark (different model) which also just stopped spinning recently. I came across this video and decided to fix the old one (Shark Rotator) and the rewiring totally fixed it!!! Thanks so much!😊
Thanks my friend....this is by far the best vacuum I’ve ever used, that is exactly what I needed...you saved me lots of money with your video . Much appreciated...cheers
Thanks for the info, should you feel like replacing the switch, they're 5x for $1.50 on ebay. AC 125 V 5 A Part CNC Mill Green Hinge Lever Mini KW 4 - 3 Z - 3 Switch O8L6
The reason this switch is there is to stop the toothed belt from breaking from the brushroll digging into the carpet, stretching out the belt, and snapping it when the vacuum is in upright idle position. All you had to do was buy a can of electrical contact cleaner and spray it down and clean it up - they get dusty - no need to hack into the wiring. You will find when your belt breaks, Shark does not sell them, and finding a company that makes one is not easy.
I just retrieved our Rotator from the pile of stuff I was taking to the dump. I took it apart, wired around the switch that was keeping the brushes from spinning and hooked it up. My wife thinks I'm a genius. I owe you a fish dinner. I am much obliged.
If it doesn’t work…flip the brush roller 3 or 4 times (on/off) after you remove that switch. Mine did not work at first until I did that but it did work. Thanks
Thanks for posting this! I love these vacs too! Amazing amount of suction. My switch was just frozen with dust so before you remove and bypass the switch try cleaning it in place with a small brush. If you hear it clicking it should start working again.
Thanks so much for posting. I was about to through the thing in the trash, but thought I would try one more time to fix it. Just as you said, it was the safety switch. Shark sells the whole power head for $100. Wonder how many they sold when it was so simple to fix.
Thank you. I'm from a long line of if it's broke buy a new one, so Have 2 shark models. This video fixed both of them. Can't thank you enough. Saved me at least 200 dollars ( would have bought a new one) 400 if you count my old one I would have eventually thrown out.
Awesome video. Thank you for answering my question effectively and efficiently. No BS just an answer that doesn't assume I'm an idiot. Thank you!! Saved me time, my most valuable gift.
Perfect! What an easy fix! I’ve been trying to get by with just cleaning the hair out of it for years but finally needed to do something more intense. Its working like the first day we bought it! Thank you!
@@jasonhood5598 that little switch that he said was the culpit, just cut those 2 wires off. Those same 2 wires you cut are the ones you gotta splice and put together with electrical tape. It works. The only thing is that if you want the rollers to turn, you gotta use the button now because it won't automatically turn on like before. But it's no big deal
We did as yo said to the switch, however it still does not have a green light or turn on the brush. We think the problem is in the switch on top of the unit.
I may have missed something, but I’m going to take mine apart and see if I can figure it out. I’ve watched a few times but never heard what the actual problem was. Was the switch not clicking down properly?
I took the switch out and pressed the switch in and out a few times, tapped on it and put back together and everything worked again… maybe some dust buildup in the switch?
This is a great video and saved the shark and saved me a few hundred on a new one. I appreciate the video. Happy wife happy life and now wife is happy!
I like your video. I have a vacuum just like this. But my wand won’t stay lock in. I bought a new one and it’s still not staying in place. When i push it in I can keep like the rubber punching the wand back up. Can you help me please. Thanks.
Thanks for this. Question: did you find that the brush roll would turn on for a half second and then stop? Or was yours not rotating at all? Mine will rotate for a second right when you turn it on, then stop and indicator light turns red. Thanks again.
I had the same issue. Thinking it was the switch. I bypassed it. The brush comes on and stayes on but only in the upright position. As soon as I bring it down it shuts off.
@JeromeRobinson My brush roller stopped working. Where can you get the microswitch? and did you have to solder it back? I also got the same advice to buy the bottom piece for $85 dollars from shark customer service. Thank you for this video. It's priceless.
NOW THIS was an awesomely helpful video! This is what I was looking for! The only other vac I would rec is the ANCIENT electrolux :) if you are lucky enough to still have one, I have two and can find bags then mine from the 1950s still work! They are in the super cool yellow and freaky lima bean colors but I do have a shark b/c I like an upright and LOVE IT! Again AWESOME VIDEO!

Of all the troubleshooting sites, you hit the nail on the head. Quick and easy with your excellent diagnosis. Thank you forever.
I bought this vacuum at goodwill for $19 and was able to fix it thanks to this video! Thanks so much!!!
Thank you! Easy fix like you said. Saved me $300 not having to buy a new one. The only downside is that the brush is always spinning when the brush roll button is depressed. A minor inconvenience to have a working vacuum.
Thank you, thank you, thank you :) just did this with our Shark and it is running like new. Just saved myself $300.00.
This Vacuum is serviceable. I end up sweeping after it more often than not. And it’s finally called it a night and I’ve had it for years.

Thank you for this fabulous video!! This really helped me to fix this vacuum. It's people like you who make this world a better place. Thank you !!
Thank you so much, love my Shark. Was a house keeper for years and went through many vacuums and had found that Shark was the Best 👌
100% agree
Sharks are the best! 💪💪💪
Bissells are better. You'd be surprised at how much dirt they keep pulling up from your carpet.
I honestly was a bit hesitant to cut the wires in my vacuum but I’m so glad I did!! Worked perfect. Don’t hesitate, do it now!!

Thanks so much!! This seems to have fixed this problem. I picked this vacuum up free at a garage sale today, because the guy said he could not fix it.
Thank you for your advice! We were in rough financial times and our vacuum broke, your video saved us!!!!

Perfect video straight forward information just what most of us need. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for this! Mine had no indicator light on so I figured it was a power fault. Sprayed contact cleaner on the switch and it's now working again.
Vacuum slowly and daily, and take care of the vacuum - good advice

Out of all the videos I watched, you fixed my vacuum!!!! Thank you
Thank you-you save me $180 the switch the whole problem I was ready to go and buy a new one Thanks again
He’s so passionate about vacuuming

I bought multiple backup switches just in case.
Awesome video . Spot on the problem. Saved me a lot of time . Thank you for taking the time and making this video.

Thank you so much I now have a working vacuum

Best vacuum ever made! I have the exact same one!!!
Thanks so much! Worked perfectly! I thought my motor was shot. You da man!!
Thank u for this video.I also had so many vacuums and this is an awesome one.
Awesome fix took 15 minutes thanks !
Worked like a charm! Whoever made those screws are the devil tho lol
Extremely useful. Easy peasy sir. Thank you!
