  • Clearly this doesn't work quite as well as a siphon tube and a bucket, but it's really satisfying the suck up all of the junk on the bottom of my tanks, and for spot cleaning, it may be faster than hooking up a python, it won't get clogged, and hey - it's just kind of a fun idea! I went too fast and ended up kicking up some of the junk on the bottom.
Let me know if you can think of any improvements. I think a smaller nozzle may result in smoother operation, but it might get clogged. A longer pipe means more water per pull. Try it out! If it doesn't work for your aquarium, go try it in a pool!

works well, feels like pulling a giant syringe, not too much drag, depending on the nozzle size water could rush back out if you lift it out of the tank slowly, not as good as a siphon hose, but slightly more convenient for spot cleaning

I will use this for my diy scuba regulator (i have a working design, just needs a bigger piston). I also made my own pressure vessel for free, good for 6 bar, so around 6 breaths underwater. Cant wait to test it!

Try an auto parts store. They usually have a large display board with o rings of every size imaginable. Take your part with you so you can test it in store.
