I remember running out my house to get this game from Toy’s R Us on my 10th birthday. I remember my Aunt and Grandma giving me money to get it. They’re both passed on now, and is another nice memory of how good they were. Thanks.
2020 and this still manages to put a smile on my face. This is timeless classic, and one of Rare's best games out there. Also, the yellow car is a cheating bastard.
Imagine all the fkn anxiety we went through as kids...hearing that high pitched turbo kick in after you spent hours trying to beat a certain stage only to fkn lose at the last second hahahaha I loved it.
Connecting the pre-race menu with the starting jingle is honestly a stroke of genius. The pace of gameplay in this game took the breath away just playing it. You didn't have time to stop.
This person playing this is the best I’ve ever seen! If you haven’t played this it gets really hard around the 14th level to get it perfect is very very hard
@@TheNoisePolluter Fandom RC Pro AM "Computer AI The computer is very weak on track 1, but gets progressively harder as the player advances through the tracks. In the first 24 tracks, if the blue car is significantly behind the player, it will speed up to a speed somewhat faster than the player's current maximum speed. But if the blue car is significantly ahead of the player, it will slow down to a speed significantly slower than the player's current maximum speed. The green and yellow cars maintain a constant speed, usually slightly slower than the player's current maximum speed, but if the player shoots and destroys an opposing car, the player risks having the yellow car reach the "impossible" constant speed of 127 mph. (The players absolute maximum is 103 mph)"
Tnx alot for the video, this was my 2nd game in 1990 I was 9yrs old, my thumb was bleeding at times from playing it so much, I got emotional, makes me feel like a kid again!!!
I inherited this game... lol. i had a neighbor at an apartment complex that had this huge box of NES games, this was back in 1999 or so, the family moved out and he left half of them behind... gold dust. this game was in there. also for those that want a 2 player experience of this exact gameplay, rock n roll racing on the SNES. epic fun.
Memories!!! Yes I was a Nintendo Nerd back in middle school! Remember playing this a lot and up past midnight on a school night and hear my dad say “Boy turn that thing off and go to bed”!!! Memories.
I was born in '83, and I think my family got a NES in '87 or '88. This game came out in '87, it was likely a year or more later that I played it. It was one of the few games that I had at the time. This video brings back so many feelings of a younger time. Years later in college I got a FC Twin "8 and 16 bit console" (played most NES and SNES games), which I then combined with this game and a Game Genie (my original from as a kid), and I think that this game realistically becomes impossible at level 32 if I remember correctly. Eventually they get so fast that you literally can't win.
I spent many a days and nights after school playing this game. For me, definitely top five best NES games. I know the list is long but damn this was a good one.
Man I think the Orange car used to use Nitris or something...cause I remember being a kid and being out in front a that guy would hit a switch and it was like Doc Brown in the Delorean on me....This and Mike Tyson's Punchout were the only games that stumped me...didn't beat Punchout til I was like 28 and determined to go back and conquer my childhood nemesis...RC Proam...well 35 and counted, still no luck.
I always found a lot of symbology between life and RC Pro-Am. It's not so much about how good you are, but more about how good you are getting through obstacles and trying to do it better than the person behind you...and hoping you're lucky enough to have missiles to shoot at them if they happen to get ahead of you.
+Jason Jewell I agree with you.. Based on my experience.. I'd say you need to shoot him when you hear that turbo boost noise he makes. Granted it can happen multiple times and if you miss, your're screwed. but still fun.
Minimise your use of weapons. The yellow car's cheating is in response to your cheating of using weapons they can't. Roll cages are a safe way to cause other cars to crash without triggering his super turbo. Once the super turbo is triggered, you need to blast him to turn it off. On tracks 29 and later, every car super turbos right out of the gate, and you need to blast them immediately or you will lose.
Holy crap, never knew about the correlation between weapons use and Turbo mode. I just used to suck it up and accept that you had to let that car win that round if you couldn't blast them fast enough....... and then Not lose again. I think mid- 20's was as far as I could get that way back in the day. I played this till my eyes were sore over and over.....
Such a great game. I loved the upgrade feature on this back when I was a kid. I got this gane from a friend but I can't remember what I traded for. I know I traded a baseball card for Caslevenia.
Same. But now I'm grown up and play it for Genesis. Hehe.. it's basically the same game except your antenna blows back when you speed up. .. and 5 cars on the track instead of 3.
Amazing how my mind remembers the strategy as it is playing out. Also, I think the reved up engine sounds like the car in the movie The Wraith (another 80's gem).
The title screen suddenly popped in my head out of nowhere and for the love of me i couldn't remember the name or even the fact it was a game with RC cars, all i remember were the two cars on the screen from my childhood, and i finally found it. What a amazing rush of nostalgia
Race 5 they almost got you but the shotgun blast was perfect on the green and orange. I love seeing real plays of this game it's gets exciting cause the opportunity to lose is always there
I remember when my dad bought me the NES. After 6 months he told me "you can choose 2 games", so we went to the store and there was a lot of games, I chose Mike Tyson Punch Out and I chose (for his cover) R.C. PRO AM without knowing anything about the game. Boy, both game were awesome but tough as nails. Thanks Dad for those great gifts.
It’s September 19, 2024 and I’m up at exactly 2 in the morning watching you destroy this game! 😅 I’ve never seen these levels before. This was definitely one of my favorite games! It was just too hard for me.

I would've hate to have environment friendly, liberal parents while growing up because they wouldn't let me play this game with all that oil on the road.
The blue car speeds up when you get far enough ahead of it, and slows down when it gets the lead. so in a longer race you may wish to let it pas you when you are a lap or two away from winning so it will slow down again, and allow you to pass later.
i remember level 24 from my childhood. i was like 10 years old when i got this for christmas back in 1988 and got that far. i just dont remember if i beat it or not though. but that dont matter considering i topped the game 12 years ago.
Spent countless hours playing this game. It says 32 tracks of fun. I finally reached 32 tracks thinking I beat the game. But it continues on after that until you can no longer win. Lol in a sense I did beat the game. So much fun!
I wonder if any other UA-camr has made an RC Pro Am video that covers when most of the screen darkens and the cars and most other items are still visible. It makes the game a lot harder but is still passable. It's been so long since it has happened to me while playing. I may have a rare glitched copy since I cannot find any info on it anywhere.
Damn. Way better than I was at this game 🤦🏻♂️😂 The intro music still fires me up! 😎🤙🏽 I was hoping this would be on that little mini Nintendo with all the games stored on it but it’s not haha sucks.

The one thing I wish they'd tweaked was the camera, such that is moved further behind the car based on the direction it was driving in, and adjusted in realtime as the car turned, such that you would always see a bit more of the track ahead. 90s for me. I got it used yo.
I was so bad at this game, so bad. Ah the memories.
Yep good old days 👍
Had so much fun playing RC Pro AM and Super Off Road as a kid. Late 80s, early 90s for me.

Same here.
I used to barrow it from my neighbor friend
