I really like his films because he has developed his own style and aesthetics. His films are visually very beautiful and with great acting and music as I remember in most of them
Thanks Josh 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏼 Lovely interview. I appreciate how you seem to make the people you are interviewing seem so at ease. Looking forward to seeing Argyle.💐
That was great! At last someone who not only answers Josh’s difficult questions about studios, but doesn’t give a f*** and is honest. I always thought he was a bit arrogant, but I really like Matthew after seeing this.
First time I saw the first King's Men movie, I felt I could have made it. Not because I am a movie maker, but because I couldn't ask for ANYTHING more. ❤
Absolutely NO ONE has a bad word to say about Henry Cavill.. Everyone says the same. Oh hes so lovely and all the men want to be him and the women swoon over him.
One of my favourite directors. I could listen to him talk about films all day. This interview wasn’t long enough, if anything. It was interesting hearing that he was cast Taron Egerton for Lex Luthor. I’m writing this comment a few weeks after the announcement of Nicholas Hoult being cast as Lex Luthor. It would be interesting to hear Matthews view on that casting as he worked with Hoult on X-Men First Class. (Also I wished we got that Vaughn X-Men Trilogy, as his vision for a trilogy was interesting)
I love the idea of a new Superman trilogy. The Star Wars pitch? Well it's hard to imagine it being worse received than what we've got recently. Looking forward to Argyll.
This is gold! X-men: First Class, The Kingsman 1, The Kings Man are brilliant. I can see why Josh said, folks will make headlines out of this fascinating convo. Can't wait for Argyle!!
@@JoshHorowitz np man I love your short interviews during the press junkets and saw you have your own channel, I was like heck yea, GREAT guests on here btw I've been impressed
I felt it was like Hudson Hawk (especially the candy bar team like Butterfinger) and lots of Alias stuff too! Definitely the intro is like Romancing the Stone!
I don’t want my head cut off. But I totally agree with Matthew Vaughn on Star Wars. But it should start in order with Ep1 and stay close to George’s Vision but with the creative liberty of the filmmaker (s)
Mathew Vaughn should definitely work with these actors as well in future :- 1. Jensen Ackles 2. Denzel Washington 3. Scott Adkins 4. Sylvester Stallone 5. Chris Evans 6. Jean claude van damme 7. George Clooney 8. Emile hirsch 9. Liam nesson 10. Jared Padlecki 11. Taylor kitsch 12. Dolph lundgren 13. Mel gibson 14. Tony jaa 15. Steve austin 16. Wesley snipes 17. Gerard Butler 18. Keanu reeves
Got some great gems out of Matt. The Storm/Halle Berry story is disappointing. Maybe Deadpool 3 can film the Storm cut. Don't make me start a hash tag #FilmTheStormCut
I'm miffed he didn't do KickAss2. To me, I really think that's his franchise. Kingsman was good, the second one was okay, but I really think kickass is where it's at for Vaughn
INSIDER HERE: The commerce has always taken over the creative with Vaughn and MARV. MARV and Vaughn bend limited companies around and has clever accountants. A rude, arrogant person. Clever to employ talented people and ditch them to whoever else can bring in another idea.
Bryce Dallas Howard??? I haven't watched the video yet...just read the "About" section, which said the movie Argyylle stars Henry Cavill - but it doesn't mention Bryce Dallas Howard, who arguably is "the star" of the movie, which is completely about her...and her "fictional" character Agent Argyylle. An oversight or misogyny at its best? I'll watch the video and see if I should edit my post.
Wondering what Matthew thinks of the stunt casting of Dua Lipa as Wonder Woman. Shallow on its surface and easy to assume as “bad” or dumb; but the more it’s considered the more interesting it seems. Taking her fame out of it. Doing a brutal and subversionist take without being condescending or overtly political in anyway. A real character piece in the vein of the more recent God of War games tonally.
@@davidjames579 First, Flemyng let slip in an interview that Vaughn had more or less got the job directing Ep VII. When that didn’t come to pass and JJ Abrams took over, Flemyng still read for a role and posted a photo of the script on his Instagram - a big no-no. I always wondered if he was going to be Hux before it went to Domnhall Gleeson.
I do not understand why Matthew was talking about creating a meta universe, before even planning to make the first one a good one or a success. He is a great director but he is too obsessed with IP and creating Easter eggs and stuff rather than focusing on a script which works. In the press runs, he confused not only the audience but even the interviewers (josh is confused as well) about series of books, sequel prequel before seeing how it performed with the audience. A big section of the movie’s promotion was built on Taylor swift and the cast and Matthew were playing coy with that rumour. Now we have seen the collections and the reviews, and Taylor was not even remotely connected with this movie in any way. Universal and apple are never going to pay him any more money to create anything related to this universe…With all due respect sir, you should walk before you can run.
Box office performance for Vaughn's seven movies as director: The "King's Man" lost a lot of money. "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" was a hit; as was "The Kingsman: The Secret Service." "X-Men": First Class" broke even. "Kick-Ass" broke even. "Stardust" lost money. "Layer Cake" lost money. Considering he's had only two surefire hits out of seven features in the last @20 years, he's had an amazing career. He's ONE LUCKY MAN, although he doesn't seem to realize it. I'm not optimistic about the prospects for "Argylle." A horrible title! If he took on 007, it would undoubtedly put the final nail in Bond's coffin. His style can be entertaining, but no one takes his movies seriously. Bond is more than frivolous entertainment. Please, Matt, stay away!
Days of future past is such an underrated comic book movie. It's not only my favorite xmen movie but I think it's one of the best marvel movies ever made. I definitely would rank it higher than first class.
Firstly, I should point out that Vaughn did a vast majority of the story and even some Pre-Pro on DOFP. Singer had a lot of Vaughn's work to go from, which wasn't the case on Apocalypse hence its quality being so shit. Secondly, I will argue DOFP, while a good movie, is a terrible sequel because it jumps from 0 to 100. Vaughn planned DOFP as the third film of a trilogy starting with FC, but Fox just skipped movie 2 and it shows. Too much of the FC cast is gone by DOFP, a lot of the visual imagination of FC is toned down, and most egregiously, DOFP ret-conned FC into being a prequel, when it was originally meant to be a reboot. FC was never meant to lead up to the Singer films, that was a ret-con. DOFP is too much of a mess in the franchise as a whole, while FC was a really good reboot that could've given us a clean slate. It's also the most comic book-y of the films, which I like. DOFP got rid of the comic book visuals from FC and sort of regressed back into the safe Singer visual style of the first two films. I didn't like that, especially with Magneto since FC ended showing up a comic accurate uniform that Singer completely ignored.
Like some of his films, but this guy reeks of English private school Nepotism. Only in the UK could someone become a director having not looked through a camera lens before. Thats not impressive, thats sad. If your from a certain background in the UK you can literally do whatever you want with little proof you can actually do the job.
