  • RuPaul’s Drag Race contributed to bringing the art of Drag into the mainstream. The show also helped propel the careers of drag performers like Jinkx Monsoon, Trixie Mattel, Alaska, Bob the Drag Queen and Monét X Change. But, is the end near?

    People have to remember (especially US watchers) that everyone is allowed to watch other franchises but just because a country gets there own drag race doesn’t mean it’s “to much or to much to taken in” it’s not for you it’s for that country and drag artist to have there own drag race and chance to be one, people have been asking for many country’s to get there own drag race (Mexico and Brazil being one of the most requested) and getting it

      Exactly! I think we should just enjoy having this much drag content while we have it. It is good that different countries get queer representation in the media, and that might not last forever.

    Honestly it’s not dying, it maybe a little over saturated but it’s alive and Well.

    It's not dying but it's not exciting anymore. Each season is basically the same so it's getting boring. They aren't really mixing things up all that much. Plus, the queens are different now than they used to be. Queens now grow up watching Drag Race. They come in with all kinds of support from designers, spending thousands of dollars on their wardrobe, already have a fanbase from social media. In the beginning, those queens had no help at all. Those queens were tough, mean, world weary, and a little bit crazy, to be honest. Yes, its a drag show.... it's a talent show... it's a fashion show... but it was also kind of a freak show (in the best way possible). Now it's just meh.

  • @rilyeknight

    one of the biggest things i think people fail to realize is that the show will not go on forever, these queer representation shows will soon either die or be replaced, so the only oversaturation i can see would be the constant US all star seasons and specials like the christmas show. any international season is supposed to be viewed and made for that specific international audience so they have the representation they need. i feel like people fail to realize not everyone speaks english and the show will die off someday. now for the all stars thing, i understand we don’t need it every year, but international seasons being successful doesn’t mean it’s saturated too much, and the only argument i could see being made is the fact that they premiere so close, overlap, and are extremely consistent/consecutive.

    It is not dying and I hope it will never die. We need as many rupauls drag race shows as possible in as many countries as possible.
    We need the LGBT community to be visible everywhere so it becomes normal and no longer controversial for locals. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

    given that the ratings are bigger than ever and it’s expanding worldwide i think you can say it’s definitely not “dying” lol. oversaturated maybe but that’s still very much a symptom of it not languishing but thriving, they’re meeting the demand from fans

    This is ridiculous - how long have we had beauty pageants for (they don’t have near enough the fun as drag race)? Pageant contestants have evolved today that you could safely see a woman dressed and beautified to a level beauty queen and yet we still have beauty pageants.
    The problem is that there is no break between franchises and seasons so there is no need to want a new drag race show.

    I don't believe it's dying, but it has hit a creativity block. I would personally appreciate a less edited and more realistic format that still maintains the competition perspective. Something along the lines of classic Untucked where we'd have freehand/handheld camera shots of the queens actually relaxing, having a drink and/or a smoke with genuine kiki between them without excessive focus on the game. Now it's just becoming regurgitated scenarios with new identities every season. It needs to find a new reality based balance.

    • @guihuppe
      @guihuppe  11 місяців тому +2

      I like the Canadian franchise for that reason. They put the equivalent of Untucked in the main episode. It's so entertaining!

    • @1bwash
      @1bwash 11 місяців тому

      They cannot do handheld shooting anymore on the US seasons. It is a union crew and there are two problems with those types of cameras. They're very heavy to have on a person all day long and the covid precautions are still in place which includes limitations on proximity, contact with people, etc. so they cannot get that close.

    They just make too many seasons too quickly. The seasons aren’t spaced enough. It used to be like a year or more before a new season but now it’s like there’s a winner and then six months later, we’re halfway through the next season lol

    I think you're mostly inventing a problem that doesn't exist. Yes, there's a lot of franchises, but you're not required to watch them all, and not watching international seasons hardly impacts their ratings since most people outside those countries are just watching on WOW Presents anyway. At the absolute worst, watching all available Drag Race is 5 hours a week, and that's only happened once. Normally it's 2-3 hours a week to keep up on all the franchises. That's hardly unreasonable or unsustainable if you like the show.
