it was an interesting comment you made about the commercialism. in this case it's an example of church sponsored commercialism. it's not at all a new problem. remember jesus whipping the money changers and overturning the tables? or remember the book of james if any of you lack wisdom (as to why your lot in life is so miserably poor) etc etc etc. so i have to wonder, how are we suppose to bring the "real" christianity to the world. even if the church gave $ 3 billion to the poor in the form of soup kitchens and a warm place to sleep, that would only be an ill fitting band aid on what is and always has been a world wide problem. one day they asked why does jesus did eat (and drink?) with publicans and sinners? then later on they tried to kill him, but he didn't stay dead. jesus is still alive and he still sits and eats with publicans and sinners. i guess my comment leads to the point that city creek shopping center was probably a waste of money. it would have been a lot cheaper to just blow up the temple, make a nice park out of the temple grounds, and make another temple in some other place away from the encroaching inner city slum. they could do good works with the money saved, and put their faith in jesus.
