    Nice video. We have a similar setup in upstate NY. Have been very happy with it. Amazing the vacuum it creates with a little 12V pump. Especially like ability to find leaks. Have a good season!

    Great video and setup. I would suggest that you add a small recirculation line with a needle valve from the tank going into the suction side of the pump. It helps keep the pump wet and it sucks harder. It might even out your flows. Buy its pretty hard to argue with a system that pulls high 20's of vacuum.

    I'm not understanding the reason for the large diameter line near the tank. Wouldn't the pump be more effective at creating vacuum always pumping liquid? You can see there the amp difference, that's also the difference of work being done to create vacuum.

    I made this system a few years ago works great.. my mainline is 3/16 thinking of making it 3/4. would your 3/4 main do better if you took the sag out of it?

      ya the 3/4 is really nice to get some good flow for the final run there. as for the sag, you would have to pull the high tension wires crazy tight to get the bag out. It’s just not worth it in my case. It might not look like it from the video but the 3/4 line has a general downhill slope the entire way. That plus the added pull from the vacuum means any sag in the line is pretty much unnoticeable when it comes to flows

      I'm working for a producer with about a thousand taps going through lines at several locations. One has 330 and the other has about 500.
      My boss doesn't use pumps so I have been desperate to make sure lines are tight and consistently. Downhill. Side tensioners work well. I can get away with kite string on the 3/16 tubing. Wire for the three quarter main lines. Side tensioning and keeping the lines under tension when we repair from wind damage.
      Last year I learned a killer knot to take up the slack when adding couplers and tees repairing squirrel damage or whatever. Hopefully I can post a picture here because I can't remember the name of the knot. Begins with a P.
      When doing repairs, I carry a couple of 10 ft clothes braided nylon ropes with bowline loops in the end. One to the line and one to the tree to take up tension. Sometimes one to either side of a break and to each other. Hopefully I can show a picture.

    you can use a VAWT wind turbine attached to compressor and extract a lower quantity of sap, just decoupling the pump system with a sap level arduino alarm to your phone, so you can extract from lots of trees with no cost and little damage to the trees

    Where did you get the fittings for the inlet filter and the outlet of the pump? I’m having a tough time finding fittings that are 1/2-14 NPST

    Now running your system for I assume a season and now another one how is it working ? and would you make and changes? I’m building one for myself.

      Working excellent. Did not change the actual pump system at all. Got a dedicated battery, solar co troller and another panel this year since there was not a lot of sun this season.

      Pump is pentair shurflo 4048 Which will come with the strainer/filter. Temp controller is inkbird 12v temp controller which includes probe. all other parts are common hardware store parts unique to each build. The battery box can use any number of solar charge controllers on Amazon also any deep cycle battery will work.

    Regarding the tubing. I'm in a rural part of Maine with a large population of Deer. How high off the ground are you installing the tubing to make sure animals transiting through the are don't damage things?

      The mainline you see across the creek is in a fairly swampy spot where deer don’t usually go. In general my lines are as low as 4’ to about 8’ off ground and have not had issues with deer. Your bigger concern should be falling branches.

      I'm in PA most of my line is in a heavy deer population area and they don't seem to bother it I have more problems with falling branches and squirrels my lines are probably 3 to 4 ft off the ground

    Would you recommend this with 5/16 drops and laterals or would it not have enough vacuum?

      it would work great for 5/16. 5/16 has much less natural vacuum but this pump will more than make up for it.

    How many taps do you have on each 3/16 lateral? I am switching to 3/16 this year but was told after so many taps I should increase to 5/16 and then into the main

      The ideal number of taps per 3/16 run is 30-35 taps. I usually do 35. There is no need to increase to 5/16 before the main. It adds unneeded complication. I usually try to have about 20-30 feet after the last tap before the main line so the last tap gets as much natural vacuum as possible from the 20-30 foot column of sap pulling it.

    Hi i don't see a vacuum gauge on your system. Any idea what it is?

      A vacuum gauge measures negative pressure in inhg. Mine is on the other side of the creek in the 3/4 line where the 3/16 lines meet the 3/4 line. I want the most vacuum here so that is where I measure. You can buy them at any hvac supply store.

      @@martinwollmann8026 25-28” depending on how full the mainline across creek is. When the gauge is at the top of one of the 3/16 lines it’s almost always 28”
