The most repeated argument against tomahawks online is that an axe takes too long to swing, that you'll get stabbed by a knife or punched by someone's hand before you do a circle to chop. However that is not true at all, the primary attack with a tomahawk that you want to default to, is a stab. You stab with the pointy top of the blade, as if it was a spear or a sword. Now that is not slow at all. I definitely wouldn't ever throw an axe as a form of self defence though, that'd leave me with no weapon against an enemy who has his own weapon AND my tomahawk at hand, most probably :) Anyway, as an urban explorer/caver/hiker, I have a tomahawk with me whenever it's possible. The Fasthawk only weighs like 500 grams, so even when I dont get to use it, it's not a burden. Just yesterday I was travelling through a dense forest area to climb a radio tower, but I took too long and on my way back it was already dark. Felt so much safer with a hawk in the hand - luckily I only had to use it to climb a steep uphill path (like an ice pick). The best thing is, those small sharp hawks like the Fasthawk can do everything a knife can. So it's really just an upgrade over carrying a knife, with the only downside being that it's harder to conceal, but I don't care about that in the woods.
Seen a tutorial in philipino or chinese (don't remember now) teaching to hit with the hatchet by holding it by the haft and doing a boxing jab like motion and then the head by inertia hits strong and accurate. That changed my life lol.
While I own various firearms and would obviously use default to one for self defence, knives and tomahawks were always the constant companion of the frontiersman and there's many accounts of them successfully fighting off multiple attackers with either. I own several ATC Model 1's (I should have just used that money for an RMJ Shrike or Loggerhead in retrospect), several cold steels, crkt chogan and kangee, Estwing's and an OKC Ranger RD Hawk II. They all have different handling and build qualities but as a tool and hand to hand weapon, I can't think of a better all rounder jack of trades than the tomahawk and solid long knife like a bowie.
This is great info. I would suggest checking out Wingard Wearables' Empress tomahawk. Wingard Wearables has a UA-cam channel. The Empress tomahawk is a concealable, edc tomahawk..... no kidding.
Dude you are awesome to me. It goes without saying the tomahawk is a revered and feared tool and has been prevalent in human history since the birth of civilization and we accredit all this to the Anunnaki. In Sumerian mythology the 🪓 was considered the symbol of God, the term known as Neter/Neteru.

I’m going to get one for the Subway here in NYC. Not to throw to chop and swing, did Arnis some years ago. Thanks.

An axe ,or tomahawk ,in the right hands is lethal
I have an American Tomahawk Company Trench Club.

Home defense..yes a tomahawk would work well....if you get 1 Strike at the head of a attacking animal and or a attacker would be Devastating...
