  • In this popular adaptation of H.G. Wells' classic novel, Rod Taylor is a scientist in 1880s Victorian England who builds a vehicle to transport himself through time. He first travels to 1917 and the horror of World War I. Next, he sets his destination for 1940 and the start of World War II. From there he travels to a future London where he barely escapes nuclear holocaust. In his desperate escape, he sets his destination into the future and ends up in the year 802701, where he meets an innocent race of people living in an idyllic land.... but this future may be the most dangerous of all his journeys in The Time Machine. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Special Effects.

Certainly one of my favorites. By the way, ever since I was a kid I thought that modern building at 1:10 was really cool. Still do. Very mid century modern. Also, George’s house was very 1890s British Arts and Crafts.

Probably the tenth time i watched this through the years and it still makes me realize how fragile we are as a human species with world wars, religions and never ending conflicts who surtenly one day will end us if we dont change direction fast from our current road into this future who we maybe never will be a part of if our only goal is to consume and destroy everything in our path.

Fonzie Bulldog We, as a species, are extremely fragile. Look up on YT, the Twilight Zone episode, “THE MONSTERS ARE DUE ON MAPLE STREET. Rod Serling’s ending narrative speaks directly to your post here.

A good movie apart from the superfluous stopovers during the journey through the time and the superfluous happy ending.

This scared me when I was 2 or 3 yrs old. The morlocks eating the people by a trance calling them underground. Scary

It's always fascinated me that Wells, a lifelong socialist, created a dystopia in which an effete, do-nothing group of beautiful people, the Eloi (who would seem analogous to aristocrats) are victimized -- indeed, devoured -- by a subterranean race of machine workers, the Morlocks (who would seem analogous to the urban proletariat). Our sympathies are much more with the Eloi than with their predators, which, in class terms, is exactly the opposite of what one would expect in a book written by a man of the left. It may be that, like his contemporary Anton Chekhov -- who was also progressive in his social beliefs, although not as doctrinaire about it as Wells -- Wells could condemn social oppression, and still be charmed by the beauty and grace of the upper class.

      Or maybe
      the leftist Author
      was just bragging about
      how much murder and cannibalism
      leftists have gotten away with
      (on earth, anyway)
      And...
      for centuries....

Maybe Wells's message was that if the upper class continue with their oppression of the working class, there will come a reckoning.

There is a painful scene where he loses her. 🙏 The ending of Guy Pierce's Time Machine is nicer. 🙏 But why did Guy Pierce not make friendship with Jeremy Irons. 😓 Jeremy Irons' character wanted company. ❤

Having learned about the many derpstate military D.U.M.B.S.
    and how adrenochrome trafficking

makes one wonder how much of an insider Mr Verne could have been....
