- 1969 Chevelle Yenko 427 Muscle Car Of The Week Video #49
The 1969 Chevelle SS 396 was a hot car, but the COPO program allowed for a run of 427 cars to really take Super Stock drag racing by storm. However, Don Yenko at Yenko Chevrolet one-upped the COPO cars with 99 special 1969 "SYC" Yenko Super Car Chevelles further modified to his liking. This 427 cubic-inch monster features a 4-speed, and it is one of only 12 built in Garnet Red. From The Brothers Collection.

This car has it all. Super rare . Super collectible. An absolute monster on the street. This was about the best Chevy had to offer in 1969. There is a reason it’s called a Super Car . Thanks for showing us this . Reminding us of how great American Muscle cars truly are
One of the best looking cars ever
I like the '68-'69 Chevelle (and Malibus) best. The '70 is the most popular and the "71-'72 are updates of the '70 style. The '68-'69 cars look lower and leaner than the more boxed off front and rear of the '70-'72 cars, and I dig the wrap around front grille on them too. Another great video!
05gtdriver especially the rear end looks better on this imo
I'd take one of these over a 70 LS6 Chevelle SS any day. Love the styling of the 68-69 Chevelle/Malibu the best of all Chevelle's. Plus I like the fact that this is just a bare bones Chevelle and not the more fancy SS model. All I need is that 427, 4 speed, and 4.10 rear. No frills
Totally agree I'd take a 69 copo or yenko over a 70 LS6.
I'd take one over an LS6 only because its a factory built sleeper and much rarer than a '70 SS with the Z15 option. But LS6 is still my favorite of all.
I was there as a kid when these cars were new ! Never seen a 427 loose to a 454 ! Hemis and 427 were tops !
Absolutely beautiful!
I like the 70 chevelles but my favorite of The Chevelle's are in the 1969's
Awesome car 🚗
Beautiful Car!
There is nothing not to like about this Yenko !
Love this channel! Shows like this are so much better than cable, so glad I cancelled cable
Glad you enjoy it!
I believe Buick’s second incarnation of the STAGE-2 option was available in 70 or 71. I am not certain how much more power you got but it probably got you in Yenko territory. Look up Pop Kennedy, Kenne-Bell Buick for some of those archives.
Stage II was an over the counter parts ensemble. You could buy what you wanted; heads were the most graphic power item along with the camshaft. Headers, aluminum intake, Holley carb and the coveted 2x4 intake set up for Holley carbs and a 5.00 gear set. There was a 68 GS that sold a few years back on Mecum that was fully fitted with every Stage II piece. Would like to have seen that car make a pass.
Nice COPO aka Yenko Chevelle!
Had 69 chevelle ss396 69 roadrunner 383 4sp 72 h1 Kawasaki 69 skylark 350 4bb then the parents got divorced thanks mom and dad glad we were there so you could have your own dreams before ours
gotta love a B.B Chevy engine....raw power!!?
To state the L72 was "basically a Corvette motor" is true only in reference to 1966. While it's true Sting Ray's had 427's under the bonnet '66-'69, the L72 was a '66-only motor. By 1969, big block options were the L36, L68, & L71, the latter also available w/L89 aluminum heads. As well, "the 350-horsepower SS396 car, you know, that was the standard Super Sport model" is itself a misnomer. The 325-horse L35 396 was in fact the base power plant for '69 SS396 Chevelle's. Again, the LS6 was NOT a component of "a standard Chevelle SS", but an option thereon.
Not the year i had but boy this is a Great car.
Could anyone go into a dealer and order a copo 427, and if so, what did the Yanko have that you wouldn't get, other than the Yanko badging?
There were power modifications such as headers, intake, carb etc offered by Yenko. It wasn't just an appearance package.
@@cali2468 The description says he one upped the copo, I was just curious how he did it. Doing the intake, carb, headers, and exhaust would do a lot without spending too much. He could go one step further and do the cam, lifters, and heads, that would be even better, but then you're getting into a lot more money and more chance of damaging the engine.
Legend.
Guys must've been pissed when they bought these in 69 then in 70 the LS6 454 is released and put into regular production Chevelle SS. that stupid 400 ci edict GM had for years was finally lifted for 1970, then muscle cars we're gone two years later. Damn the EPA
Not really because these were much more special IMO plus just as quick as an LS6 tbh.
It's YSC, not SYC...look at the side of the car and extrapolate. Yenko Super Car. The "Y" is superimposed over the "SC" on the hood and seats; plus fix the left brake light. Thanks for another pretty good video.
Take a look at the headrests... this is where the "sYc" monogram comes from.
Take a look at my comment, I explained the seats.
You are right. The largest " letter" or "word" is read first.
Does it really matter?
Why are the exhaust manifolds that color?
Matthew Losapio I know rite....they look stupid orange.....they should b cast iron gray....or better yet. a nice set of full tube headers!!
They actually came from the factory with overspray on the manifolds, it's just a restoration to the exact way it would come off the showroom floor
The overlap on the side stripes is so low rent.
He forgot about the '70 Yenko Deuce Novas.
He has 2 videos of the 70 Yenko Deuce 350's.
I’d rather have the 69 Yenko Nova
Tail light out
