Great tip. I've been using a piece of grass trimmer nylon line to clean out those drains and that works most of the time.

Dave and Irene, thanks for this nugget of information. This happens to my Promaster all the time. Usually just the passenger side. Now I know how to remove the tubing safely. Thank you for taking the time to show us how to do these simple things. I’ve changed out my air filters and now this! I feel like a mechanic! 😉

I just use a quick blast of compressed air and it completely unclogs the line and drains great again. Just a tip for others with a compressor.

Water runs in all along the hing. I got a tip. Get the beauty cover off a Chrysler car with the same engine. It fits on top of the gas engine perfectly. You just have to trim the side (that runs along the front) I got the tip off another owner
After cleaning mine out a number of times with compressed air and wire I created a snow cone out of mesh wire that I had for lint for my clothes dryer. The same snow cone style that they sell for rain gutter/downspouts on houses. I pull it out every so often to clean.

LOL ,My Ford Transit is far worse that your Promaster .I have to constantly clean debris from the windshield gutters or water will flood over major wiring harness/computer assembly.
Don't get me wrong, as I do love my Transit ! Happy travels.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned but i just had to fix my hoses that I only discovered were tampered with (autoshop), because I wanted to replace my high beams with LEDs. Best option, pull the whole headlight case out, and tuck the jose on the right side where it will drain out of the wheel well area. this will prevent any water entering the main compartment under the hood.

The drivers side tube is easier to get to if you remove the small plastic panel behind the headlight. There are 2 thumbscrews and 2 snap clips holding it in place. I usually flush with windshield washer fluid as the alcohol will prevent freezing if you are in a cooler climate. I also notice you sealed the joint between the 2 halves of the cowl. That should be done as well.

We have the same problem in our Volvos sunroof drain system except when ours gets plugged up the water comes inside the car. I blow air through the lines every so often to keep it cleared. Love you channel! Stay safe.
Yes, the same thing happens to my daughters Honda Fit sunroof. We didn’t know it was something that needed to be watched and during a bad rain storm her car interior was flooded pretty badly...like leaving the car window open during a storm. Her car was only about 8 months old at the time.🤷🏼♀

Thanks Dave, appreciated the DIY! Folks often don’t notice these....largely as not an issue on most other vehicles. I’m somewhat disappointed in the Promaster design for the water off the windshield overall. The main drain is not the low point (water pools on the passenger side which is slightly lower than the driver side (main drain side), silly but perhaps not too bad, but the vertical seam in the middle of the cover/cowl will eventually leak (it isn’t actually sealed). Last, no membrane between the windshield and the cover/trough with the drains, so always some water leaking there. Just back from an auto body/glass shop hoping they could help with my 2018 but they just said that is the way it works with Promaster (and flagged all the points noting a bad design). Check your engine after a heavy day of sitting in the rain and there will always be some water in the engine area.. Usually not too much, but often enough for some to cause some corrosion over time (if it sits for a while) and water getting on your serpentine belt. Likely less of an issue for folks chasing warm weather! Looks like most folks try to tape or add silicon which may help. If you have tackled successfully would love a video on that too!
I did have the issue of the lower windshield gasket leaking. Right or wrong I used heavy duty silicone to seal the gasket to the windshield about a year ago. Actually I think I used black flex seal. No issues since then. I didn’t make make a video because I had no idea if this was the best option or not. So far I’m glad I did it;)
I haven't had this problems in over 50 yrs. I would've never noticed this...until I bought a used PM and had electrical issues. PM has been sitting for 20 months bc no one wants to work on the issues. No garage to work in and in brothers driveway. Weather and work limit my time while also trying to learn elctrical. Holy gads, electrical !! Have whole front end off working on wiring, While under the hood, head was down I looked up and saw sun light coming through by cowl. Finally found the cause of all the wiring corrosion. $400/mo ins and payments. Drove it only a few times before building it. Too much $ into it to sell as is for a fraction of what I have into it. Learning a bit about electrical though that should serve me later on !
Great info! I had a clogged sunroof drain tube give me a surprise shower when I had to stop on a steep downhill once. I’ve been careful with those things ever since 😂

Thank you for sharing!!! Just for the heck of it i checked my drain hole. I discovered the water was draining fine on both sides but on the drivers side the rubber tube was shredded about 6 inches from the top so water was actually draining into the engine compartment. The tube is not touching anything hot and there is no sign of a mouse or something else chewing on it. I'm going to check with RAM to see if I can get a replacement part. In the meantime I just wrapped the tube with some electrical tape to hold me over.

Thanks for the video, I own a Promaster City (Fiat Doblo outside of the U.S.) with a drain problem, every time it rains there's an inch or so of water on the passenger side. I assume that the design on your Promaster (Fiat Ducato) is similar or the same as mine, so I'm going to give it a shot.
@@x-man4702 Another idea is to have a length of nylon string, like from a weed eater, on hand. Some people push that through to keep it clean;)

Might be able to fish a wire through from the top to clear future blocks or maybe wrap the top with a little bit of scrap nylon leggings to keep particles from getting in the tube.

I have to wonder if you could replace the connector and hose with a larger one after enlarging the hole in the well.

If I had that problem I would cut off that hose about 2 or 3 inches down from the top use Gorilla Tape attach a much larger diameter hose and then get a piece of thin stainless steel wire and just push it down from the top and clear it.
We’ve decided it’s easiest to avoid rain. 😉🤣🤣😉😉

Those hoses are way too small. I'd just toss them, and figure out a way to use larger diameter hose in its place. I'm getting a new Ford Transit Embassy RV Traveler Sport 3500HD dually tomorrow. I know for a fact that the water management just below the windshield is horrible to where water leaks right onto the driver side bank of the engine causing all kinds of corrosion over time to manifold bolts plugs, et al. I will solve the problem Ford engineers could not or would not.
It may be worth it to drill out the holes and install a bigger hose.🤷♂️😁🙌

Off topic: Have you noticed any big differences in driving the slightly longer Promaster? Or does it handle similarly to your old 19.5 foot rig?
Drives very similar. I don’t notice the extra length like I thought I would. The heavier duty suspension feels better also.
Can the port be blown out just using a soda straw, and blowing through the top?
I don’t think so but I haven’t tried. We’ve sold the van since and are in a truck camper now. No more issues;)

Ya might want to invest in a new oil cooler made by Dorman best to do it when you do a tuneup, I replaced my coilpacs and a new hose “water pump to oil cooler “ i have a 2018 2500 3.6 with 120286 miles igot the heavy duty yellow coilpacs from a amazon vender

I like the trick in several comments about using a length of nylon lawn trimmer string;)
I just keep a 3ft piece of weed wacker plastic string and run that thru the drain. This way you don’t have to remove tube.
Helpful info for sure. Checked and our lines are definitely plugged. Thanks! Question though on what appears as computer board in the center above the engine. Not believing this is stock so just curious what this is for? Keep up the great videos and glad to see Dave is well on the mend.

ya, even worse in northern climes during snow events; all the freezing slush and salt water with the debris pooling there, what a pain, and poor design. I’m cLeaning out those tubes frequently.

NEARLY as bad as a '97-'99 Jeep. The A/C condensation instead of draining OUTSIDE through a drain between the dash and the firewall. The drain would clog and all the water would POOL in the floor boards. SOLUTION. CAREFULLY drill a hole in the heater, A/C box under the dash on the passenger side install a hose (similar to the one in his hands) then route it through a hole (drilled) in the passenger foot well of the floor board. THAT has been successful for over ten years... Still own and drive that '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Yup there is a lot of these little poor design flaws. The bottom line is that Chrysler, Dodge, ram, or any other manufacture, doesn’t care once it leaves the lot 🤷♂️
Definitely a poor design. I wash/clean them out with the hose or blow air into them.
