Lacan in particular and psychoanalysis in general is fascinating but often cryptic to the point of feeling deliberately exclusionary. You, on the other hand, are clear and understandable. Thank you!

The point about LSD was very spot on in my experience. I suddenly saw myself in a new light, like looking at a stranger, not the image I have identified with all my life. It gave an alien but comforting impression as my often negative views about my appearance no longer held. It helped me see how insubstantial they are in nature!

It's fascinating how dissociation can sometimes act as a positive force.

I dont think the historical absense of mirrors poses much of a problem, since we see our image in water; this is of course where the word narcissism comes from

Thanks for the great series. This might interest you that Muslims are not allowed to look into a mirror while doing Hadj (visting Mecca).

There is more frame than image in that paintingto the left. I wonder what Lachan would say about that.

    Hi Kevin,
Thank you so much for all these videos! I'm in a Graduate level English class that explores literary critical theories. I'm writing my conference paper on Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway with a Lacanian lens. I'd like to use your videos as a source if you'd allow it. Thanks! -Marina
