I also like them at the regulator. Saved us when a coworker burn through the hose.

It’s definitely messed up when it happens and you look back and see a flame at your acetylene regulator they’re definitely worth it

They're a bit more complex than a check valve, they also incorporate a gauze or sintered steel block that blocks flame propagation and possibly a thermal cut off valve as well

Well now I'm just going to need a diagram signed by a manufacturer and an SDS. Just kidding but yeah the function is much like a check valve. In my business we also have backflow preventers which are much more complicated than a check valve but they accomplished the same thing.
      Potato potato.

My torch has them built in however I still install flashback arrestors at the tank valves in the event the hose ever gets damaged it will prevent a flashback from being injected into the hose and going to the tank

It's scary how many torches are missing these. That reminds me, I need to get some for mine. Great advice

I just accidentally burnt through the oxygen line today while cutting exhaust stacks off the cat converter🫠. So when i was done cutting one side of the tubes i stood up and kicked it over to the other side cause shit be hot, but i didnt realize that i kicked it over my gas lines cause i got super tinted sunglasses of course to see the flame, i got back down and repositioned myself for a better cut and i just heard that hiss and lost my oxygen 😭, burnt a hole straight through the line, i couldnt imagine if i cut through the acetylene line instead 😀 theyre not even an inch appart.

What was protection like before before the invention of this flame arrester?

Great retro video. What do you call those pipe hangers in the background? I used to know this stuff by heart but it's been a while and I tried looking it up on Google but they literally call them pipe hangers. I know they go by another name but I can't remember it.
Anyway, I'd love to see a video on how to properly use those things. I saw a lot of them used incorrectly over the years so I think I might not be the only one.

Struts. That's what we used to call them, struts. Anyway, I would be very interested in seeing a video on how to use struts effectively in tight areas and how to improvise with them.

just had my new fancy torch POP!
probably had too little gas and pumped to much oxgen but...
time to also invest in a flash arrestor...

Do I need this as an hvac tech using oxygen and acetylene? Never seen someone use this.

So basically, the fire gets arrested before it explodes the tanks? Right?

@@dansproshop I'm not trying to be a smart ass but can you explain to me how the flame can go back into a tank the only contains gas and no oxygen which is not gas will not ignite with no the worst I could see happening is a fitting popping.off or a hose and gas shooting out and flames going everywhere

    • @davidknightaudio934
      @davidknightaudio934 Рік тому

And don't the regulators stop oxygen from leaving oxygen tank and going into the acetylene

Buy a name brand torch body Smith or victor and flash backs are built in. If you go the cheap route the arrestors go at the gauges/bottles. See, just a dumb ole long haired pipe/pipeline welder with a degree from the University of Gett’n ?hit done
