TRAIN DRIVER'S VIEW: From Voss to Oslo and beyond!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 вер 2024
- On this trip I relieve the driver from Bergen at Ål, and drive the train from Ål to Oslo and into the depot.
It is not often we get to drive the trains on the east side of the mountain when based in Bergen or Voss, but sometimes gems like these comes to us.
As you can see, speeds are much higher one the east side due to better terrain to build tracks in.
Enjoy!

Thank you RailCowGirl; I am confined to a hospital bed with internal bleeding, The pain is driving me crazy; yet your videos are keeping me sane. I have been on the Four Leaf Clover train; in the 1990's, from Bergen to Oslo and back. Your videos remind me of when I was young and the beautiful scenery helps me escape the pain and hospital bed. Thank you again, so much 💜
We all have our down days and today for me is no exception, but it's not hard to smile and say, 'Thank you.'
for the beautiful ride.
Such an incredibly wild and beautiful place. The land of my ancestors
Nice how the railway buildings are all that cheerful shade of yellow!
Now when am I going to find 3.5 hours to watch this lovely video?
I know, NOW!!! 😊🐄
красивые места всё же есть у нас на планете земля, красивые. Слава Богу!
Thank you!
Loved the side views. It adds so much more to the front view. It would be great if you were able to have both views on your videos. I know that is asking too much but it was great to have both your driving view and the passenger view. Your country is beautiful. Thank you for showing it to us.
Wow, you are really flying on this trip young lady, I'm truly impressed!
It's always a treat to see your wonderful videos, thank you!
Veľmi prekrasne natočené video 😉😉😉😉.
Pochvala a palec hore 😉😉😉😉.
Perfektné super 😉😉😉😉😉.
Thanks for showing us a side view to see some of the scenery in the distance at the start of the video, not just the track in front of you. Yes, the front view of the track is oddly soothing, but the brief side view gave me a feel for the size of the town you passed through... :-)
Thanks for sharing as always. Your country is so beautiful! Really enjoyed the opener of riding in a passenger car.
I watch these videos and feel home😊
Peace and love everybody😍
Wow HinduCowGirl another video with snow! OK but 3 1/2 hours long I need more heart medication. I don't know what to say so I will just sit back and watch another smooth ride on the FLIRT. I thank you from all of the herd and please keep being the ambassador from Norway. We all love you.
all I can say is WOW🤠✌
Your videos just keep getting better and better HCG! Love the passenger perspective at the beginning and the last 10 minutes were like manna from heaven for a rather sad train enthusiast like myself. It's not every day you get treated to Class 71s & Class 73s all in the same video. I've never actually seen them before bar in pictures. Many thanks :)
Loved the Old School Lincoln waiting the cross the tracks..@ 2:37 :-)
I appreciate the "new" (as in - I had not noriced them, previously) graphics, highlighting line information. Thank you sooooo much!
Hey, incredible - just last week I wished for that - now it's true! Many many thanks to you, and to the semigods of dispatching...
Super video!!!!😘Bravo You are the BEST!!!
Wow! Love the trip to Oslo! That walk at the end is really loooong to the parking lot. Makes most of our trains here in the States look pale by comparison. Except maybe the short trip through the Rockies on the old Zephyr route via Royal Gorge. You have a whole country of gorgeous mountainous terrain and rolling hills. Can't get enough of it so keep 'em coming 'round those mountains! Thank you!
Gosto muito de ver esses vídeos de trem é muito bom mesmo
Thank you so much!
really wonderful trip, its so interesting viewing your country.
I am always surprised how little traffic appears to be on your roads compared with England.
Also not that many passengers waiting on the station platforms.
Thank you again ,and the trip around your depot at the end was the highlight.
The train is full from Bergen :) that’s why :) it’s a train with seat reservations:)
Something a little different Many Thanks!!
You are an institution in this segment HCG! Speechless....
Thank you
@@RailCowGirl Proud member of the herd! :-)
Those shops are immaculate! Wow! Outstanding as always friend!
very lovely thank you for sharing with us all :)
Can't wait to get home to watch on my big screen!
Hi, Paul - you're absolutely right!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
rail cow girl i love your videos , i love your beautiful country, and most of all i love you. thank you for all your hard work making these videos for every one to in joy . god bless you and your family, have a fantastic christmas and wonderful new year. happy rail roading to you.
Beautiful view 😍
HCG you should receive a commission from your Norway Travel companies for your video's . Because of watching your video's for the last several years we are coming to visit in June . The last part of our tour takes us on the Bergen Line with a side trip on the Flam .
We visited Norway two years ago and I fell in love with the beautiful country and its people. We stayed a couple of nights at the hotel you see along the tracks in Voss. Enjoy!
Thank you! ❤️🙏🏼
I hope I will be at the helm on that train ❤️
Wonderful! If I get a chance to visit Norway, I would definitely make a trip to take the Flam line...and ask for HCG! If enough travel agencies realize this mysterious HCG is drawing people to the country and the mountain region, especially.... Thumbs Up!
YOu're not the only one. I am plotting a post-pandemic trip to Norway. Fly to Oslo, ride up to Bergen, then make my way to Trondheim and do THAT rail line. I think I've earned it the past year ;) But it's all a result of these videos!
Outstanding video. Beautiful country. Craig USA. PS I've never seen a clean Amtrak train.
Veľmi prekrásne natočené video . Veľká pochvala a palec hore .
Perfektné , super . Srdečne pozdravujem , prajem veľa železničných videí .
Nórsko je krásna krajina . Ešte som tam nebol , zato sú tam krásne trate a
nádherná príroda , veľa tunelov a mostov . Ešte raz , veľmi prekrásne natočené
video . Pochvala a palec hore . Prekrásne , super , fantastické .
Len tak ďalej .
Lots of surprises- loved it!
A lovely three and a half hours ride. Thanks HCG for taking us on a tour of the depot towards the end of the video. Was fantastic. Look forward to more such journeys of similar hours. Watched the entire video from my office.
HCG You did it again !!! What a GREAT video !!! I really I hope I can make a trip to Norway some day with you as the engineer on my train from Oslo to Bergen !!! Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)
This is so terrible - I hate looking out the side window ever since you showed how fantastic the front window view is. :)) A truly spoilt we all are
Looks like there was some track construction going on. Love watching going through the switch yards. Cool to see you switching between tracks.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍
fantastische mooie reis!!! met de kerst p de taart is het binnen rijden van het depot !!!zeer mooi bedank daar voor !!!
Thank you!
Great ride, Thanks again!
Very good. The last 15 minutes of the video were the best. Show off the garages as well as the maneuvers of the trains. You could narrate and do a vlog.
@Dr Moriarty Yes, I wish she would comment about things along the way while editing the video.
To boldly go where no train has gone before 😋
Nice one again. I'm going to watch it in episodes.
I've been to that area but it's difficult to recognize it due to all that snow.
Great video.....Sam from USA
ah hawell worth seeingbeen waiting for a chance to see you drive to Oslo
great video Gal..thank you
I liked the sideways looking view. Maybe you could do a whole trip like that in future . But my word, the inhabitants of Voss are an ornery looking lot.
I don't think I will be doing an entire video with side views, but who knows. I have several videos with side views you can watch here if you want more: ua-cam.com/play/PLqVXtaI0Orw4l62lAwYMUAwTJYI0cEh0S.html
Nice video, I especially liked to see the end with the depot in Lodalen
I also notice things get more modern and fancy as you approach Oslo.
Hello, so far I watched "Cab view", in my country, but I see that the topic is wider. The message scheme is similar but the views are different, that's why I like to sit and go forward. Regards. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing!
One of those channels where I put like before I watch
This is so great traveling with you :D
so great!
très belle video et beau pays. Merci de France.
Thank you so much!
Wow 😍😍😍
Der du avslutter i Lodalen, har jeg gått mange ganger :)
Wow! What a super train ride! We get to see some new country. Things are sure different on the other side of the mountain. Was that an early Christmas present for The Herd? Thank you for sharing the video. As with all your other videos, I LOVED IT!!!!! Where did you go after the video ended? Do they provide you with lodging when you are away from Bergen?
If you don't post another video between now and Christmas, have a super Christmas! Thank you again for a wonderful video!
I went to the hotel and had a really good rest before heading back in the night train.
STORT TACK ännu en gång!! "Superdriver" ;)
HinduCowGirl
THANKS FOR GREAT VIDEO.
Oh, hurray! I really look forward to viewing this. I've only seen the NRK Bergensbanen Minutt for Minutt run from Bergen to Oslo. Saaay, you weren't driving in some of those videos, were you?
Thanks for uploading in 2k (720p60).
I did enjoy it verry much. I discoverd that after you left Drammen and did enter at the many tunnels around Oslo that the so called green signals were looking like blue. Is Norge exp
irimenting with these colour or did the camera not working well?
awesome video dudette. you keep out doing yourself. my hat is off to you (well, if I wore a hat it would be). thanks.
yes
Fascinating video thank you. Would be nice to hear your voice with some information such as places of special interest, meanings of signals etc. and also the speed you are travelling.
Hi and thank you. I have done some live sessions and some q&a's in the past, maybe you will find something of interest there. Here is the playlist for the Q&A's: ua-cam.com/play/PLqVXtaI0Orw4KZmrGBVQ0hUxlHFDey516.html&si=cG3tSWoGQ1qDzI08 I have also added the line speed in the bottom left corner on most of my newer videos. I have a playlist with information about the signals here: ua-cam.com/play/PLqVXtaI0Orw7ageOY4IQCpTQwYRmqryZI.html&si=mqnqIO_pfxN9T1OY Hope you find some of what you were looking for there :)
Cool tower at 54:20. Not the usual electrical shed (or whatever these sheds by the tracks contain).
That is a water tower. This is a relic from the old station that once was there. And the water tower was used to fill the steam locos. :)
@@RailCowGirl Nice!! I discovered the "All The Stations" channel and greatly enjoy the histories Geoff and Vicki point out about the old buildings, switches, etc still in place along the lines in the UK. The evolution of rail travel is so fascinating.
My great uncle lived through some of that history of rail travel. When he began working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in the 1930's as a brakeman, they were using steam engines. After working as a brakeman for two or three years, he got a job at the railroad shops repairing locomotives. When MoPac switched to diesel engines, he learned how to repair them also and continued working as a locomotive repairman until he retired. He was eighty nine years old when he died in 1995.
Another great video thank you. Can you tell me what the triangular and circular signage with numbers on the rail side indicate please? I notice some are upside down compared to others as well.
I love you!❤
Wow, three and a half hours, I have to look at that in three parts.
At the end of July we go from Flåm - Myrdal - Voss - Oslo, with some waiting times and a night train that unfortunately had no sleeper free. I think if you know your way around, there are better connections, right? In any case, it seems to be an adventure, if the trains go when they want or suspend without you being informed. What people report, sounds partly really exhausting.
Great! Always the same line, always the same engineer/photgrapher/sirector, but always different and new. Every time new aspects. How do You manage that? You have to drive the train as well! Helper(s) on board? Good luck and "Immer gute Fahrt" This is german and means: Have always a good and safe ride.
Nice intro.
This might u feel better, I'm sorry 4 what I said the other day. Because I had been buying 'Drivers View' off of Video 125 (British Trains). They edit 3, 4 E.T.C. hrs of train journeys into 90 mins to 2 hrs. I've paid alot of money 4 alot less. I'm gonna rate this video 7 out of 10, which is good.
No worries, you're entitled to your opinions :D Are all different :D which is good :) I take all feed back into consideration :)
Wow! That was brilliant. I really enjoyed that video. 👍 Is there any chance of you doing a return journey?
I have videos on the return journey already, but those are during summer :)
Hello nice videos!!!!! One question. How you understand that you approach a station so as to brake suitably? Or you know all the route by hurt????? Thank you
It's route knowledge, you have to be able to brake well before any speed restrictions for junctions, curves or stations. You must be 100% sure of your knowledge before you are signed off for a particular route. If your service is diverted and you don't know the details of the route you cannot proceed without a "pilot" to show you the way, or to drive the section.
I love your videos and the sceneries is amazing. Making me proud of being a norwegian. But could the camera be placed so we could see some of the dashboard/instruments? Kinda interested in that as well :)
I can not show instruments or dashboard while driving.
@@RailCowGirl Aw, fair enough 😊
I love the new side camera angles HCG , have you ever thought about being part of Patreon for support ? .
It is under consideration :)
Seeing the passengers awaiting embarkation is interesting--imagining their stories, etc. Many have large suitcases. At 02:40 is a young woman with three companions seeing her off. She has a suitcase, backpack, and I guess a shopping bag. Lots of stuff. Her hair is in a practical traveling ponytail, as is the gal's at 02:47. Looks like she has a "Plosk" shopping bag, or something like that. Does the traveler at 02:40 have the same bag. Is there a store in Norway called Plosk? I Googled Gol Motor & Fritidspark (sign at 23:16). Per website, it's a dirt track for motorbikes and ATVs, shortly before the Gol station. Are there go kart tracks in Norway?
What?! There is now a platform mug as well?! Haha - wait for it. I live across the road from a platform. Photo coming when the mug arrives. :D
Haha, hope you liked it :D
@@RailCowGirl I love it. It shows up in Zoom meetings a lot. 🐮
That's very cool, very beautiful scenery! And the side takes were a nice touch! This is your first video to/from Oslo in quite some time now (by the way, looong walk at the end).. So did you take a lift from Voss to Al and then took the controls all the way to Oslo? Also, is this train gonna be replaced by the Flirt ones, as well as happened to the local lines?
This train will not be replaced by FLIRT. :) took a lift from Voss to Ål and relieved the driver there :) the Class69 had to be replaced ass it is now EOF. It’s almost impossible to acquire parts for it now.
HCG I will be travelling Oslo to Bergen on December 26 with my husband, and one of our sons - will you be driving? Thank you for your amazing work!
Another great train ride. I love to "ride with" You. In this video I enjoyed the beyond part specially. Situated in the Oslo area I often ride by in a car or bus but to see it from a loco was fantastic. It seems that most of Your journeys is on Bergensbanen. Do You sometimes get to ride Dovrebanen, Raumabanen or Gjøviksbanen. Would love to have a ride on these lines as well. keep on filming and I'll be watcing.
Nope, we don't :/ Everything is prepped for competition. Drivers are locked to their region now.
@@RailCowGirl Hmm!. I'm certain that the whole idea of competition is a bad one. Anyway I enjoy Your films, and as some of You other viewers has expressed ."Evey ride is a different one". It's fantastic to see Hardangervidda in all seasons and in all kinds of weather.
Everyone is certain it's a bad idea, except for this current right wing government who's selling Norway piece by piece and introducing irreversible changes. Everything in blind belief in market capitalism. It has never worked, will never work basically because of one human facto; Greed.
Thats gotta be a lonnnnnnng walk when it's dark, and cold and snowing or raining.😨
Thank you very match Hinducowgirl : Wunderbahn !
Awesome. Some really nice changes. When I first saw the video it gave a play time of 4:00 hrs. Came back later and changed to 3:35? Am I seeing things? Happy trails
You were probably seeing things :D It has been 3:35 all along :D
Flott video!! Men jeg som er fra Drammenstraktene ble litt skuffet når du ikke hadde lagt inn labels på noen av stasjonene nedover der (my precious hometown Hokksund) 🥺
Ooh, that bit of side view at the beginning...I'm wildly curious what your passengers are seeing when you stop inside one of the snow tunnels on the Flam line so people can take photos overlooking some kind of gorge. Would it be possible to get a bit of side view from your cab as you are slowing to stop there?
Maybe ;)
Another Great video, but notice quality in image changes quite often between clear HD and down to 720 and up again. Camera change?
No, I guess your thinking of low light situations? It’s the change in ISO-levels.
@@RailCowGirl If you check the horizon, at times it blurs and refocus to sharp clear view, it does it several times..blur..focus..blur, not like your other, that stay sharp focus all the time, including inside tunnels.
Check the track view 13:56 to 14:08 just for an example, blur (fuzzy)...sharp shinny...blur..same effect in the far horizon.
That is called youtube enconding.... that’s one of reasons I really don’t like releasing a video when it’s only processed for 1080p. The video is much better when it gets processed as 4K, when id you view the 1080p edition.
Sadly there are som issues on encoding long videos at the moment, but they are working on solving it. :)
I think I found the problem, auto-focus, if it were ON it would be shifting the lens very slightly during the train outside scenery moved. Could be?
Any chance you can do a video that is only the view out the side (with no cuts). My wife likes the sounds, but the view out the front is a bit much for her. I think she (and probably many others) may like a video with a few out the side... Or maybe even only partially off to the side? I dunno....
Personally, I like the front view ones though. I’m just asking for my wife :D
The more of your videos I watch, the more I want to go to Norway. I loved the passenger view for the first couple of minutes at the start.
Oh, and a couple of questions about the signals and signs: does the circular '7' sign on the signals as you pass through the station after 1:05:00 mean that the turnouts are rated for 70 km/h? And what does the little '+5' sign below a triangular speed sign mean?
snowy and cold; a great day for a drive; i enjoyed the live chat last Saturday. What's the long building there in the end? You didn't seem to be in there more than a few minutes.
Thats where the carriages maintained and serviced. :)
Wow that intro was unexpectedly loud! I used to hear silence at the beginning :D Maybe you make it a little quieter?
Great. Now I have to see the differences between your video (2018) and the NRK documentary (BergensBanen Minutt for Minutt - 2009) :p
2018 crushes 2009 in quality ;)
I looked up Hønefoss. It doesn't seem to be a very big place, population-wise, but that's quite a rail yard! It looks as if it handles both passenger and freight traffic. Is it a place where trains merge from many different directions?
Another stunning video thanks HCG. Random question are dogs allowed on trains in Norway?
Carriage number 8 is pet friendly and dedicated for those who wants to being their quadruped friends & companions :D
Cool. Thanks 👍
Foot cam. 😀
hello you
Some of the houses facing the water front look amazing, does your train-driver salary enable you to afford one of these ? I hope so :)
HAHAHAHAHAHA! I wish! LOL!
Last week when you did the Live session, was the video Live also.
No the video was not Live as in LIVE, but it was a prerecorded stream. It would be insane, irresponsible and impossible to really live stream. Any channel proclaiming to show live footage from a drivers cab is a scam. Basically because it would be a disaster for a company to live stream e.g hitting avalanches, trees, cars and in worst case trespasser strike. That would not be very good.
I totally agree, my first thought how was your video signal going to get picked up.
Thank you! A wonderful trip! Was wondering -- is there a conductor on your train crew???
Of course! It’s two conductors. It would be irresponsible and dangerous not to have conductors on the train. As a driver you have zero chance to check on 600pax while driving.
@@RailCowGirl I thought as much but had no idea there were 2!! Thank you for the reply!
HinduCowGirl, will you be on the Bergen or Flåm Line on the 31st Jan 2019? I am doing another trip from Oslo to Bergen on that day.
That is still unknown :)
