You see, I am not a Nigerian but from Zambia which is in southern Africa. What this lady said can be applied to the rest of black Africa. Trust me, an African passport is worthless abroad, it is not just Nigeria. You know respect comes from achievement, it is something we Africans have not.... We may have achieved as individual, but not as countries or the continent..... Look at China, it once had the same GDP as my country Zambia, yet look at where China is and where my country is. Napoleon bonarparte one said let China sleep for when she awakes she will shake the earth, which is exactly what China is doing. It is a country that America is now so fearful of because of its manufacturing prowess. It graduates more STEM cell graduates in the entire world. 3 of its universities are now in the top ten, it has over 6 of the best operating ports on earth, it has the 3 gorges dam which is the most powerful dam ever built. China wants to be self sufficient and all these are achievements that have made them respected. If Africa continues to be so corrupt, inept, ineffective and totally reliant on other, we shall never be respected.

I moved to China in 2003, left in 2007 to Qatar and then the UK, but had to relocate back to China in 2012. Why? It's the place to be. My personal and professional life has experienced significant boost.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had a similar experience with this same Turkish Airline way back in 2007. That was a time when they had billboards all over Lagos boldly stating that No Transit Visas were required to stop over in Turkey. I had a 21-hour layover and as other nationals were being given hotel accommodation, I walked up to the counter and they bluntly told me I wasn't qualified cos of my Nigerian passport. I really made trouble with them and threatened to sue them because you don't tell me that I don't require a transit visa without spelling out the disadvantages, especially considering the long layover. Other Nigerians on the flight were telling me I was overreacting because they were already used to it. They said I should just find a corner within the airport and sleep for the night. Fortunately, my threat paid off as the Airline officials looked for me after about 1 hour and gave me a beautiful hotel accommodation within the airport. Unfortunately, all the other Nigerians on the flight slept on the bare and cold airport floor. Sad it's the same story 17 years after!

You were the change that was needed that time. You spoke up and against the ill treatment and they heeded and did the right thing. That is what ya’all in Nigeria should always do. Common man, I respect you! Others wanted someone else to fight for them just like what is happening now. But you were the change! Nigerians need to be the change they want to see because the black man is waiting for the sleepy giant to wake up for the black race to be respected.
      Good job man!

Her anger is misdirected. The problem is beyond not getting a hotel or a tour package. Most countries teach others countries how to treat their citizens by their actions. Benin Republic is visa free to South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia, India etc. We need to start telling ourselves some hard truths.

    • @derekmiles767
      @derekmiles767 4 дні тому

Very misplaced, a lot of Nigerians may not know this, but Nigeria literally has the worst passport in West Africa.
Nigeria has 25 total Visa Free countries, 14 of those are a must under the ECOWAS union; remove those 14 and there only remains 11 countries that has a deal with the Nigerian government that willingly allows Nigeria citizens into their country without any prerogative at their airport... Some other countries like Iran, Lebanon, Cambodia and others are Visa On Arrival (you will have to pay for a visa when you arrive at their airport).
South Sudan isn't in any Union, got it's independence in 2011, and already has a higher non-union Visa-Free countries than Nigeria, they have 18 compared to Nigeria's 11... Ghana has 42 Visa Free countries with the Union, that's still 28 without the Union.
There's no denying that most African countries are taken for granted when talking about freedom of world movement; but in certain countries case like our case, we also have to look within.
Nigerians should read up on what happened between Nigeria and Seychelles last year after both governments agreed and signed on a direct air travel route between both countries; Nigerians should read on why Seychelles terminated that deal just after a year.

    Very well spoken!!
What she has said makes a lot of sense. I have been to 5 different countries- Germany, Egypt, UK, Canada, UAE and have not needed a visa for any one of them, because of my US passport. The first visa I will ever get is to attend Hajj in Saudi. With my Nigerian passport, I would have needed a visa for every single one of those countries.

The perceived “power” of a country’s passport is tightly based upon the past behavior of its citizens in foreign countries. For example: do the citizens who hold a certain passport overstay, commit crimes, deal in drugs, involved in fraud, etc at a higher rate compared to citizens who hold other passports? It’s important to admit that some Nigerians have tarnished the image of ALL Nigerians by displaying unacceptable levels of criminality while abroad.

Ethiopia now requires consular visa for Nigerians against visa on arrival a few years ago. At some point they stopped issuing tourist visa to Nigerians, you can only apply for a business visa which has some stringent requirements. Same as India. The ministry of foreign affairs really need to step up, as she said there are bad people everywhere not just in Nigerians so we shouldn't take the Dubai treatment from everyone.

@adetao2007 IATA regulations dont always align with reality. The airline would argue they had accommodation for her, but she didn't have the visa to access it.
As a Nigerian passport holder, I would not advise you to transit through a country you dont have a visa for. Your passport is not powerful, and nobody respects your country . That is the perspective you should hold. There are many options for flights to avoid these kinds of embarrassment.

I agree with you madam, every body is not a bad person in Nigeria. but the difference between the Nigeria situation and the citizens of other countries is that while the citizens of other countries are commiting there crimes in there own country, some Nigerians are actually committing crimes in other countries where they traveled, thereby spoiling the name of the country. Just like you give the example of the U.S, yes there is crime in the U.S but so long as the U.S citizens are not coming to Nigeria to commit those crimes the Nigeria immigration does not have the jurisdiction to hold them accountable for it.

Only for her to get there and they did not allow her enter that she needed to get the visa from Nigeria. She asked why their site said different and up till now no response has been give that's why the airline has been summoned. Also it's against IATA rule to keep passengers that long without lodging them in an airport 😊

My experience with Turkish airlines was really bad. 17/02/2022
I was coming back from work, my flight was from Luanda to Lagos, transit through Istanbul. There was a 4 hour delay from the airline (Turkish air) in Luanda, on arrival to Istanbul I missed my connecting flight, I couldn’t find someone to help me cos they refused to speak English with me, showed them my ticket, they changed it to the next flight to lagos 24hrs period. No accommodation because they said I needed a visa, no food, no sympathy, no explanation…. It was really sad.
    One positive travel experience.
I had a better experience in Doha, one leg delay, there was a lady waiting for me with my name on a placard, new ticket, food voucher, full explanation on how/where to eat and sleep while I wait.

It's not about fixing any bad things about Nigeria. It's because our people want to travel to just anywhere without really thinking through the value of the journey. With my USA passport, I can travel visa free to 188 countries and territories. But I have no intention of going to the vast majority of these countries. To do what? I value my Nigerian Passport greatly because it's a part of my identity. In the 7 decades of my life. I've never had any problems with my Nigerian Passport. They'll ask me questions and I'll answer them. I wonder why that lady had to fight for Tanzanian visa. What's in Tanzania that she just must go there? Why would I want to go to a country that doesn't seem to want me? Many Africans pride themselves with how many other countries they've been to even as they waste their money that they can invest for a better future. 😮

In my case I have American visa and Uk 10 years valid visas, yet they want us to go and spend extra $300 plus, for the Turkish visa.
The question remains why was the e-visa stopped?
Someone, somewhere wants us to go and line up to pay the money.
I had an experience when I was leading a group of over 30 delegates to Istanbul on a B2B conference, the embassy said they have no space except we book appointments for over one month, otherwise we are to pay express fee of $100 per delegate.
We have no option, we did pay that money.
I also noticed that the whole application we saw and I interviewed them, revealed that everyone is paying that $100 each.
It’s very unfortunate where we found ourselves, even the treatment while in turkey is a different story, they treat you with little or no regard once you’re with Nigeria passport.

We called them several times to confirm they will have hotel accommodation. They lied the whole time. They refused them hotel, they were racist to my dad. One of the staff seized my father’s passport and spoke Arabic to him because he asked questions. After my father asked for his passport. He threw the passport at him like a dog. They are one of the most horrible people on earth. I will never allow any of my loved ones take Turkish airline again in their life time. They did same to me in 2018.
Firstly they denied me boarding after 21hrs layover at the airport and their reason is that they needed to verify my Nepal visa before continuing my journey.
The next morning they told me my visa is verified but the next flight to Nepal is the next day.
No hotel accommodation provided, only meal ticket every 4hrs so I slept at the airport floor for 3 days.

Nigerian government should place an importance on Nigerian citizens just like the U.S, if we are ever going to be valued and respected in the world. All the bilateral relations, talks and agreements with every country should not be on the round table but based on general treatment of Nigerians in every country. Collect data annually from Nigerian embassies and Nigerian citizens living in each country to assess them and officially it on the national tv. This joke has to stop, Nigeria has a lot to offer the world, we have the skills, money etc.

The Lady was SPOT ON 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. The problem is some Nigerians on social media “particularly from the East” and the way they paint Nigeria online. The derogatory words they use when speaking about the country, is nothing short of deplorable. I don’t live in Africa and I say this humbly I have been privileged to live in several countries and visited several in and out of Africa. America aka USA is one of the most rotten countries to live in and raise your children, it is rampant with crime, drug infested, with a lot of mentally imbalanced individuals and yet many people allover the world are lining up to migrate there. American passport gives you access to virtually every country on earth, despite the aforementioned issues and more not said. This is not to say our government doesn’t have a role to play ( it does hugely) but we as individuals also have ours. It’s that bad as we now have “Non Nigerians” pretending online to be Nigerians and saying all sorts of vileness about the country. We as a whole, need to be the change we desire.

Ms Idoko was in the wrong!
First of all, she booked a flight without reading and understanding the fine print.
Second, she assumed that because she enjoyed a perk before, it means that privilege (not a right) still exists.
Third, she failed to realise that as diplomatic relations change between countries it affects everything that both countries do on the international stage
You see, Turkey has downgraded Nigeria from the countires that get e-visa (and visa on arrival) to a country that must get a consular visa. Do people know the difference between both visa types? If you don't, maybe you should not be having this discussion.
From the foregoing, how do you expect Turkish airlines to grant any Nigerian access into the country without a visa (a consular visa in this case?). Is Turkish Airlines now greater than the country (Turkey)?
You see, all of you here making noise about how Turkish Airlines treated her are only displaying ignorance. I'm even shocked that Ms Idoko who claims to be so well travelled can be so ignorant of these things to the point of carelessly booking a ticket without fully understanding the contract she got into.
When booking tickets the layover periods are well spelt out. Not hidden. Don't by yourself book a long layover and expect a airline to give you a free hotel stay. That's ignorance at it's highest.
You guys should stop this nonsense and talk to the Nigerian government to get a better deal for Nigerians. The Nigerian passport is in junk territory with those of countries like Afghanistan etc. That's not where Nigeria should be! And that's the issue. Not Turkish Airlines or any foreign airport for that matter.
Ms Idoko should channel her angst appropriatelyand stop misleading Nigerians.

    • @queenbethia
      @queenbethia 20 днів тому

Your response is quite ignorant, and I can tell you ve never travelled out of nigeria, so I'd forgive ur very poor accessment of d situation. Yes I'm very well travelled, 70 countries to be precise so let me educate you!
The information on the turkish airline website is highly misleading and its intentional to lure unsuspecting pple to book this insanely long layover flights in d hopes that at least a hotel will be paid for and they won't ve to sit and wait for 22 hours at an airport.
Pls don't even take my word for it. Please look it up yourself and see that they know exactly what it is they are doing just so they can cover their asses from @iata .
According to aita laws , no airline is allowed to keep any passenger at d airport beyond 9 hours without provision for accommodation!
So this is a clever trick turkish airlines uses to get away with this nonsense! It is on their website that Nigerians are eligible for the free stopover, but what they don't tell u is u can not get a visa at d airport. They only mention that you will be responsible for paying for d visa which I was ready to pay for anyway. I ve done this many times before
I'm not even saying change ur laws cos of me, but also provide hotels for Nigerian travellers within d airport is all I'm saying! If u are paying for hotels for other nationalities that paid the same price as me for a ticket, then also pay for my own hotel within d airport is all I'm asking.
That airport hotel is 270 euros for a small box of a room with no bathroom attached, just a shared 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets by everyone lodged at the hotel!
But pple are not speaking up about it, and this is a real problem.
We should never get used to accepting nonsense from these pple cos we are also paying clients!!
Turkish airlines claim that they can not get me a hotel in town cos my passport does not allow me to get a visa at the airport.
So what about the hotels at the airport that I do not need a visa to access???
Why is there no provision being made to keep nigerian citizens at the hotels in d airport?
      We do not deserve this?
All I see here is DISCRIMI.NATION and nothing else!!
I ve travelled very far, 70 countries to be precise, and this turkish airline and their entire staff are the most rude, unprofessional bunch of poor excuses for staff, if u ve ever traveled tru this airport u will know this for a fact, they are very dismissive in their attitude and have zero skills on customer service!
I will NEVER be silent in d face of bad treatment

    • @queenbethia
      @queenbethia 20 днів тому

Don't get so used to bad treatment that u even support it when it's metted out on you!! What's wrong is wrong!
If its ok for you to be treated like u don't matter despite being a paying client then stick to it, but this will NEVER be me.
Even the NCAA knows and sees how wrong this is and has summoned d airline, but u sit here in pure ignorance thinking u know better!!

    • @user-fu9gc3yw3n
      @user-fu9gc3yw3n 19 днів тому +3

@@queenbethia my initial response to you I suspect may have been removed. I'll try my best to rehash my thoughts.
Bragging about number of countries travelled is poverty mentality. That's also very infantile so I'm not going to indulge you.
Let me touch on 3 things:
      1.IATA
IATA cannot force a sovereign country to allow people into their country against their own immigration laws. Nigerians require consular visas to enter Turkey. You don't get that on arrival. You get it by applying to an embassy. Before your trip. When booking your trip, the length of layovers are not hidden. It's your responsibility to ensure you can cope. Otherwise book another ticket or another airline.
      2. NCAA
The NCAA is only encouraging your noise making because they want to milk the situation. The mess you got yourself into has nothing to do with the NCAA, rather the ministry of foreign Affairs. In all your rants, you have not really channelled your angst to the MFA, you're busy harassing an airline for doing their job.
      3. TourIstanbul
You didn't pay for TourIstanbul. You paid for a flight. TourIstanbul is a PRIVILEGE that the airline is extending to passengers who can legally enter Turkey. The flight you paid for is your right. Know the difference. This ignorance and entitlement mentality is what got you into the mess in the first place.
Now if you're not eligible to enter Turkey because you do not posses a visa and/or your country doesn't qualify for an e-visa or visa on arrival, is Turkish Airlines supposed to smuggle you into the country? And violate the laws of their own country? Because you bought a flight ticket?
Travelling on a Nigerian passport is harrowing. Even those who have travelled to only Bénin Republic know this. That's why when you plan a trip as a Nigerian you must back it up with a lot of research. Something that is lost on you who have travelled to 'all the countries of the world'. Don't sit on your high horse and end up embarrassing yourself.
If you want to travel freely without the need for 'endless research', then
      1. Get a powerful passport (if you can afford it)
      2. Get your government to work with other countries at the diplomatic level to improve the ranking of your country's passport!
Showing up at an airport and expected to be treated like everyone else (with very superior passports) is very naive. For someone who claims to be well travelled your naivety is very preposterous!
Finally, the word is ASSESSMENT. Not "accessment". Illiterate. Now go ahead and edit it. You don't have to thank me, keep it.
