- In this episode we are finally expanding the city of Port Douglas southwards, creating the first major part of the Southshore neighborhood, a tram-based area consisting of a unique mixture of the new Brooklyn and Queens-inspired CCP assets, narrow row houses, the 1960s/1970s apartment blocks and much more! Before we dive into that, we revamp a couple of things on the West Pier Marina we built in the previous episode, based on feedback from you guys!
We also build a new park on the border of Southshore and Downtown, and make the beach in this area detailed and fully functional!

- What's the rationale behind this project:
What happens if a washed-up-used-to-be-UA-camr gathers a bunch of "generic" looking assets (though mostly inspired by Australian / Canadian cityscapes) with the hopes of creating a Cities: Skylines region full of towns and cities that both look realistic and are inspired by Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, while at the same time don't really replicate any one particular style? No idea, let's find out.
Join me in this Cities: Skylines modded gameplay / let's play / timelapse series as we expand the region, and build new infrastructure, highways, public transit, industrial pockets, NIMBY-neighbourhoods, sprawling suburbs and bustling downtowns. And of course, use tress excessively to cover up any imperfections!

How do you place residential buildings so fast in suburbs/neighbourhoods?

I know that Coneferia is based off the US, Canada and Australia but some areas look like Sandton in Johannesburg,South Africa.

That's interesting - I have checked out Sandton on google maps a few years back!
@@Infrastructurist Port Douglas in some does look like Sandton CBD and to some extent Cape Town. You would swear it was those areas if it is was real and had a BRT system instead of a tram system.
Southshore could have a big monumental opera house/theater/something like this right by the coast I think. It would look nice and you already have the space,nearness to the downtown and the infrastructure for it. Also behind this district on the hill a medium sized 1900s church would be really cool I think
I was thinking you could add some street paintings on empty walls all over Port Douglas just to give even more identity to the city, I know there’s a lot to choose from in the steam workshop. Also great episode as usual, love the look of the little park.
graffiti and paid-for-by-the-city murals are so ubiquitous that they don't offer a real identity to a city any more than bricks or concrete do. what identifies a city is it's prominent architecture, natural setting or features, and it's unique amenities/attractions

With all this wealthy expensive area building up, I can't wait for the impending wealth gap in Port Douglas. Would really sell the hidden side of Coniferia.
Regarding the beach front, It's giving some strong Miami Beach in the 90s vibe, pretty cool ngl :)
Thank you! I am collecting a set of huge mansions, modern and historic, for an upcoming build which is really going to highlight just how loaded some people in Coniferia are - while others have a hard time paying rent.

With the hotels coming soon, will Port Douglas see a bar/restaurant strip for young tourists looking to go out around South Shore? I would imagine such an area would be better suited in a place like south shore, separated from the downtown core yet still accessible. I love the addition of more parks as well and hope that, as the city expands, it reserves a large portion up in the mountainside for a nature reserve. Keep up the great work!

The parts with the commentary are the best parts since I can follow the video better while playing myself
I feel like boat transport across the bay would be good or a ferry port for tourists. I also feel that school bus routes would help with traffic issues.
A suggestion from me for when your getting into the small Suburban areas use older smaller tram models. As they’d fit the streets better or do a heritage route for some backstory
I can imagine a cable car from Port Douglas centre up to the peak of the mountain behind. Also multiple radio masts up on the peak would look appropriate! Love it your videos! Keep up the hard work!
Once that highway is in full use Coniferians will demand better sound protection I guess.
I've really fallen in love with this series - the whole region feels like it has so much character and life despite only being a simulation!
I'd love to see a circus/ferris-wheel/pier on the new waterfront (maybe inspired by Del Perro Pier in GTA V?) to make the area feel a little less artificial and corporate. Although Port Douglas is bound to be more far affluent than Pine Harbour, I think the two should still interact with citizens going for days out at the beach/shopping or escaping to the countryside at a campsite.
We want market square somewhere, would be so nice seeing a lot of people moving there. Nonetheless great episode!
I am really looking forward to the expansion of some hotels. A town with such a busy downtown area attracts business people and the gorgeous beaches attract tourists. So I would love to see some development of hotels. As a major tourist destination there may be a restaurants and bar street, with all the positive and negative consequences of tourism. I would love to see something in this direction.

Great build! Looking forward to new expansions of that region) The boardwalk is amazing and stretches through the whole city, maybe a mayor can make it more under the trees? As of now when people walk, they are always under the burning sun, which can affect amount of people strolling and enjoying the infrastructure

I suggest you make a cruise port like Miami port and make all of them functional and one just has a docked cruise ship a prop.

My only worry is for the citizens in some of the narrow streets and the lack of sunlight due to high surrounding buildings. But that's not unrealistic now, is it.
Also, not so sure about the brown/white tower.. it's a nice building but sticks out like a sore thumb with its size in a medium density area and would fit better in downtown... But my guess is you already have something planned for its surroundings and as always I'll be amazed by the end result.
Very nice. Maybe the beer barrels under the sun shining is not such a good idea. Amazing plenty of details however!

This is just an AMAZING build! 😍😍 Southshore definitely gives off a highly urban, kind of New York vibe with successive stages of development over time
But hey I have a special favor to ask: that divided street along the waterfront, could you rename it "Beachway Drive"? Thanks. One of my sisters had a friend who lived on a street by that name and since the one in the game feels like a scenic parkway drive along the beach... 🤔
I think adding some foreign embassies/more government buildings would help make it even more realistic as a region this big probably would have more government infrastructure and a foreign presence whether they be embassies or just consulates

Do you have realistic parking on hehe. You could try resetting the parked vehicles, because the amount of cars that were parked in Southside before there was even anything there seems crazy, it might be worth seeing if they return or if it was some sort of bug. Just a suggestion :)
Hi Liza - I have realistic parking enabled, and since Port Douglas is lacking (so far) dedicated parking, people park their cars wherever they can haha!

I wish I wasn't so lazy because I would love to be able to do this kind of thing too. Have always loved city builders but I tend to get bored quickly with vanilla assets. Sadly I just can't be bothered with installing all of these mods that fry your pc and my tolerance for fiddling around with glitchy stuff is very low. Wouldn't it be great if the devs of skylines 2 would make the asset creator available before the game launches so modders could start making custom buildings and stuff that could be implemented into the original game right away? That way you wouldn't have to rely so heavily on the modding community once the game launches in order to have a diverse range of traditional and modern Western/Asian building styles.
How do you have that realistic graphics? Are you planing to do tutorial about it?

How do you have so many people using car parking? For me, it's usually empty or just a few cars. Do you fill up parking spaces with props?
I use Traffic Manager President Edition mod and have realistic parking enabled - so since there is a general lack of dedicated parking spaces/garaged in Port Douglas, people park where ever they can :-)

Hi can I ask you what specifications your pc has. And I when I load a lot of mods (especially those that are related to graphics or effects) and assets it moves slow and fps drops dramatically.
