In the novel "Right Attitude to Rain" by Alexander McCall Smith the protaganist Isabel, while standing in her bedroom before a painting by the 19th Century Scottish painter McTaggart, mentions the song to her visiting relative from Dallas, Mimi. She said the painting made her think of the song. This song reminded me of the song "The Last Farewell," made famous by Roger Whittaker.
Hi My name is Marie Law, I am the District Manager for the NHS in Lochaber and also the facilitator for the new Lochaber Community Partnership. We have a new website and I was looking for something exceptional, something that really expressed the passion and the beauty of the place I am blessed to live. Would you consider allowing us to put a link to your lovely video ? Kind regards Marie
I don't know why not! I'm just learning of my Clan Campbell ancestors, still living at Inverness...which if i understand, was the only seaport of the Jacobites had left to defend? Waiting on the French to provide reinforcements, money & arms. This song was written just after The Battle of Culloden 1764 🥺💖🙏
The sequence in Kidnapped (the book) when the emigrants are leaving and the townspeople sing this song is so moving and sad.
Yes, a very beautiful, heart-rending song. Plus a fine voice and the Scottish accent. Exquisite.
I'm here because of Robert Louis Stevenson. Some may say this song is heartrending. Others may say it's achingly beautiful.
Same
Me too. It's gorgeous.
Me 3 lol.
I read about this song in a book; it was great to hear it, and so beautifully done. What stunning scenery....

Hearing this for the first time, I don't know how many years after The Proclaimers' "Letter to America" which references it.
