I love how these lyrics describe Italy of this wonderful amazing place of sunshine and leisurely land, and dismisses it all for one's native Scotland. In my own country (America), everyone wants to lie in places like California and Florida, were it is always sunny and warm. I say thanks but no thanks. Give me a state where green mountains rise on the horizon, where rain and mist come often, where the sea bashes against a rocky coastline and the wind is in your face, and where the snow falls heavy in the winter.
Scotland and Wales sound like lovely countries, from all I've read. I imagine that it would be particularly nice to live in a village or a countryside. Here in America, our small towns are often very charming and nice places, where the people are friendlier and there is an abundance of nature.

thankyoupourlavideo pretty sure the part about Italy is talking about how soft lands lead to soft people and romantics. Hence the “freedom expires” part. This is supposed to contrast sharply with the part about Scotland since he talks about it being a rough land with bloody tombs and flashing blades that withstands the shocks upon its freedom. Maybe I’m reading too far into it but that seems reasonable?
I’m American, yet sometimes I get that Scottish accent and people get confused. I also have an Irish, British, etc. You name it... I can do it. But at my high school I was in JROTC and when we marched... We would always play Scotland the Brave because it was our school song. We were the Highlanders and we stood proud when we heard the bagpipes and Scotland the Brave play in the distance. We would always win and when we won... We went home in a Scottish style... We would play Scotland the Brave. When one of our own died, we played the song. It was the best time of my life.
Fun little fact bout that, Scots, Germans and Scandinavians all come from the same proto-germanic stock if you look far back enough So we share more than the whole.....unsavory relationship lol
@Orange Flame Scotlands 'anthem' is flower of Scotland because that's what our sports team dons, and its the closest thing to an actual national anthem. So that's why we just say it's our national anthem

Why are Americans so obsessed with being 2% Scottish? Find it hilarious that most claim to be descendants of the likes of Wallace, Bruce etc just be proud of being what you really are which is American. But if I found that one of my grandparents 100 times removed was Spanish I would never claim to be any stupid % Spanish! Sorry I don’t get it?
@@sharonburns5302 Americans are really mixed. That is why they are looking for an identity, usually the ethnicity of the ancestor that most recently immigrated to America. So they define themselves according to that very ethnicity despite them being something completely different. In America and Canada there is a vibrant Scottish community that teaches Gaelic, scottish customs etc so most Americans are fascinated by that culture preservance due to the fact that most white americans(english ,german) are ethnically invisible, meaning that they failed to preserve their own English (american revolution, denouncing of English identity) and German identities respectively. Scottish folks have something which the English never got hold of. A kind of attachment to a soil which they know as the emblem of a history that is only theirs, and bestows upon them a peculiarity no other people of the world boast. An undescribable sort of pride that is rare and justified.
I live 9,000km from Scotland, but this song makes me feel respect for Scotland. After building an old stone house on the north coast of Scotland. Imagine raising sheep, farming and fishing in the meadows. There are rocks around the house, there are lighthouses and it is often stormy. And I'll look like Hagrid from Harry Potter or Willie from The Simpsons. How beautiful is this!
I am not Irish. The irish are wayyy more relaxed and a bit unprofessional (but they are nice people) I am Northern Irish. I am a Protestant and I am proud of our industrial heritage and our hard work ethic. Belfast is a beautiful place and I am proud of it. I understand that some people identify as Irish, and that is perfectly fine. Personally, I am British. I speak English and I am patriotic towards the British Empire. What I hate is the toxicity of people trying to take that away from me. I hate when people try to group me in with the Catholic Irish. I personally believe that our culture is completely different and so is our identity, and people should stop trying to rip that away from me.

Due to my ancestors being land owners, I've been able to trace them back to the early 1200s through land deeds passed from father to son. That's nearly 500 years of Scottish blood running through me. And mighty proud of it. Alba gu brath!

Who would have said that Scotland the Brave lyrics had an introduction referred to my country, Italy!
I've listened to the bagpipe version of this song since I was a toddler (weird parents) and I'm so proud and amazed right now.
Much love to Scotland!
believe it or not italy and scotland actually have quite a close history - many scots are of italian descent.
I think it's a reference to the Roman Empire

I love how these lyrics describe Italy of this wonderful amazing place of sunshine and leisurely land, and dismisses it all for one's native Scotland. In my own country (America), everyone wants to lie in places like California and Florida, were it is always sunny and warm. I say thanks but no thanks. Give me a state where green mountains rise on the horizon, where rain and mist come often, where the sea bashes against a rocky coastline and the wind is in your face, and where the snow falls heavy in the winter.
+GremlinsAndGnomes I'll take the Buckeye State over those other two. Give me cold winters and crazy weather.
+GremlinsAndGnomes That's a dream climate of red-haired gingers.
+GremlinsAndGnomes you sir would be right at home in scotland or wales
Scotland and Wales sound like lovely countries, from all I've read. I imagine that it would be particularly nice to live in a village or a countryside. Here in America, our small towns are often very charming and nice places, where the people are friendlier and there is an abundance of nature.
Where can I find a place with temperatures from 30 to -50, constant winds of 60 miles an hour, hail, meteor showers, and the Aurora Borialis? That's my ideal weather.
As a proud Scot all my life and for countless generations back, this makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up..
" When Armied and Empires against me were hurled,
Firm as my native rock i have withstood the shock,
Of England Of Denmark Of Rome and The World "
Long live Scotland

That is a true anthem for a nation. Filled with love for one's country and pride in one's flag. Long live Scotland. The shining crown of beauty and wonder that tops the United Kingdom.
I think the part about Italy sounds rather nice, really.
Bepis
same
And acknowledging respect for other previous great nations too.
thankyoupourlavideo pretty sure the part about Italy is talking about how soft lands lead to soft people and romantics. Hence the “freedom expires” part. This is supposed to contrast sharply with the part about Scotland since he talks about it being a rough land with bloody tombs and flashing blades that withstands the shocks upon its freedom. Maybe I’m reading too far into it but that seems reasonable?
I am brazilian and I love this Song, Scotland the brave! Respect.
@Rabbit Ik this comment is from 1 year ago,but I will reply to it anyway. It shows that our people respect the country. Don't be salty over that
I wish I were a Scot.
Beautiful song ❤, Love Scotland 🏴 from Brazil 🇧🇷.

Fun little fact bout that, Scots, Germans and Scandinavians all come from the same proto-germanic stock if you look far back enough

If there ever was a song that should be a National Anthem this is it.
Richard Smith it was the national anthem for Scotland. Until the song O’ Flower of Scotland.

Stv Grampian used to use this song in there Idents.
@Orange Flame Scotlands 'anthem' is flower of Scotland because that's what our sports team dons, and its the closest thing to an actual national anthem. So that's why we just say it's our national anthem
@@OnlyGrafting no, there is actually an anthem. Selected in a referendum.

Hello 🏴❤️🇮🇪
Respect to Scotland from the Switzerland.
I don't have any Scottish or Irish blood on me, but I've always been fascinated of Scotland ever since I read the Scottish Chiefs and Kidnapped as a child (and trying to read to myself in a Scottish accent). Its always been a dream of mine to visit this beautiful country and visit all the wonderful places I used to fantasize about when I was a child (Stirling Castle, Loch Ness, the Highlands, Culloden Moor and many more!!).
I would sure hope you don't have scottish or irish blood on you...
LOL!! sorry for that, i meant to say "in", =)
I'm part Welish and Scotish
I have irish and Scottish in me i wish them places as well
Irish and Scottish aswell
My family and I are Americans, but we have Scottish, Irish, Welsh, French and American Indian ancestry, hearing this song makes me want to go to Scotland. WOW!!!
Your story makes me want to go to you. :). Sorry it does Frida. The hearth is a strage thing.
Sending respect and admiration from England! I don't go to Scotland enough but it's a beautiful country!
@Alex Jones lol, it was a british idea to leave from the EU now they have to deal with the consequences
Brexit will have consequences like a new scottish referendum since up there most of the people voted to remain and that's a fact.
Also literally no one asked you to be sorry, no one even cares about your opinion tbh, it's just funny how you are sad about Scotland possibily leaving UK when you voted for something Scottish People made cristal clear they don't like and that will make them vote again for their independence , it's just simple as that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Internal British politics is nothing to do with you pier, you don’t know anything about Scotland/Britain anyway if your not from there. What would you know hahaha? Stick to your own shit country 👍
@Alex Jones people don't remain in unions because they have existed for a certain amount of time... that isn't a good reason at all...

No generations. I just like the fooking song....

Why are Americans so obsessed with being 2% Scottish? Find it hilarious that most claim to be descendants of the likes of Wallace, Bruce etc just be proud of being what you really are which is American. I was born in Scotland and have lived here all my life as have all my family for as far back as my family tree goes.
(complete linguistic assimilation).
@@sharonburns5302 yep, I'm American, We have people from many countries here. My family is a blend of many a nationality, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Germany, etc. True Mongrel dog of a family tree. But being from the "highlands" of the Blue Ridge and Appalachia Mountains in America we share some heritage, dancing styles, fighting styles etc. We can appreciate the concept of standing against all that was thrown at us. But of course we actually won all the fights. ;)

Scottish folks have something which the English never got hold of. A kind of attachment to a soil which they know as the emblem of a history that is only theirs, and bestows upon them a peculiarity no other people of the world boast. An undescribable sort of pride that is rare and justified.

I see, but you shouldn’t be proud of colonisation and an island that you don’t even live kn
