The Hoover U4387 was marketed from 1984 to 1987. I think you used some good rationale in considering it to be from a later production. It looks and sounds fantastic! Thanks for posting.
I would say 85-87, since they started putting the dates in the serial number, I believe in 1988. This should of had the beater bars. I am guessing that it's a replacement brush. Very nice machine

Also, I think by 1990, they were using plastic bottom plates, although I am not sure. I am not a Hoover expert. I know mostly Eureka/Sanitaire
Thats not the original brush roll i remember seeing that hoover convertible at K-Mart
