  • This webinar was convened against the backdrop of escalating concerns regarding industrial CO2 emissions, which have surged by nearly 70% since 2000, significantly impacting global energy emissions. As of 2022, the industrial sector directly contributed a quarter of the world's CO2 emissions, necessitating urgent action to align with the Net Zero Emissions (NZE) Scenario proposed by the International Energy Agency (IEA) for 2030. With fossil fuels driving a substantial portion of industrial emissions, the imperative to decarbonize this sector has never been more urgent.
With bioenergy standing as the primary non-fossil source for industrial process heat, this session explored the various pathways for replacing fossil heat demand with biomass in industries (such as steel, aluminum, beverage, food, cement, etc.), while presenting various case studies of existing projects worldwide, as well as future opportunities for advancing decarbonization in industries using modern biomass heat.
    Agenda:
Opening remarks by Christian Rakos, President, World Bioenergy Association
    - Manolis Karampinis, Bioenergy Europe
    - Justin Tait, Enviva Biomass
    Thomas Schmidmeier, Schmidmeier NaturEnergie
    Linda Löwhagen, NCC Industry AB
