It´s not the gear, it´s the man... Copeland sounds like Copeland
Sound like Gavin Harrison. It’s be interesting to get his sound on a budget.
The sonor would break the bank alone not to mention the k cons.
the -MMmphh on them SQ2 toms would be too much to handle even for other sonor stuff... even with the S-Hoops and coated emperors
A 12" snare (mapex warbird, or pork pie maple 12x6.5) and an aax Memphis ride have gotten me pretty close to that sound without spending too much. Gavin has my favorite sound ever.
Love Copeland’s drum sound and this comes pretty damn close if you ask me. Would love a vid on Abe Cunningham from Deftones next
His 10” rack is tuned a lot higher than what you guys have it as, but otherwise it’s pretty sweet!
Josh Edwards I agree, but again, they could've cranked the snare some more too, and Stewart did a remo spotlight video where he showcases his head setup and how he tunes his drums... but their gear choices are spot on
Maybe it could be cool to do another "level" of sound like, where you use one basic shell set for all videos and you have to get the sound just through cymbals and tuning.
this is pretty good! i still wanna see a sound like for the late Neil Peart of Rush even though it's impossible!
hopefully on the Andertons TV channel we have a sound like for Andy Summer and Sting in the future, then the police sound like is complete!
Yeah, that’d be awesome. Summers is really underrated as a guitarist in my opinion but his playing is still great
I agree
@@andrewpappas9311 Especially how far those fingers stretch! It's more noticeable when playing Message in a Bottle or Every Breath You Take in standard tuning, my fingers hurt trying stretch just to play that on E,A,D and G strings!
Would be great to see how to sound like Ray Luzier
Accurate, but if you did some little research you could’ve found some interviews with Stewart and his drum tech were it’s stated that all batter heads (snare, toms and bass) were tightened to the extreme, and the gaffers tape was used mostly in the toms.
Loved it gents … thank you 🙏🏼 🥁🇦🇺
My fave drummer next to Colaiuta. You guys got it!
Stewart used 602 13” hats in the 80s. Still have those? I’ll take ‘em!
Sound like the pearl jam ten album, pleaseeee
That would be amazing!
Agreed
VS pleaseee
No Tama, no Stewart Copeland, period....
WITHOUT BUSTING THE BANK
@@callmejacob217 doesn't matter. These guys' budget for their drums is just too low. Drummers will spend much more money on drums in general.
@@JakeAdair I agree
There's nothing wrong with the budget for the drums in this video. Stewart Copeland's classic tom sound was achieved with a set of Tama Imperialstars, a middle of the road kit.
@@centralscrutinizer8571 yeah but they couldn't get those drums for the budget. They have the same budget for their drum videos as the guitar videos which just makes no sense...
Questlove
Carter Beauford
Brad Wilk
Chad Smith
Danny Carey
Awesome !
I want that ride cymbal 👍
Wow this is extremely close for being a without busting, fantastic job.
Stu being my all time favorite drummer, I think you nailed it!
This is such a good UA-cam series cause they get to keep all the stuff and they have an excuse to buy them
thanks for the tuning tips. I got some splashes and really old drums lol
His sound is in the way he moves, hits and phrases things.
Nicely done. Great playing in this one. Try dropping a few cotton balls into the floor toms to shorten sustain. It’s not what was done back in the day but it’s effective.
Yeah! Nice Job. Very creative style of vídeo. Keep on!! Works Very well for drummers..
Very Nice for me to watch, because i had to do the same in 1985/86 when i played in a Police cover Band. Of course was much harder at that time and in my country (Brazil). So i stuck to a Brazilian, 12' , 13', 16' black kit, with Remo ambassadors...spkashes made from chefão old cymbals cut to 8' and 10'. 16 ' and 18' crashes from Brazilian besta cymbals Company at that time(ZILTANAN, yes that was the name😝) and the Ride was a brass one...Really good👌. With a bell that sounded very much like stewart's..(yeah right🙄😉)....Butbthe most important, as i was trying to mímic his playing..i evolved a lot.surely It was a blessing into my playing..even the tradicional grip i learnt..😓...few years later while living in Holland...i found a Tama imperialstar 1983 kit. Brand New in a store. Bought it. Have it till today..and i have the paistes too. 😉 Thanks for sharing such nice vídeo which brought me this nice memories....
And the only thing i'd change in your setting, would be the Ride...a pst5, 7 or 8, would sound better around the Bell.
Cheers! And keep this good work.
Sorry the weird words..the automatc corretor is in portuguese...chances words all the time..some passes..😬
So: chefão= cheap
Matt Sorum (Use Your Illusion albums) without busting the bank!
We need some old school rock, like Bill Bruford without busting the bank.
Do Neil Peart next
His toms are way, way, way higher.
😐
Originally played 13” 602 thins, I believe. A lot of people used those in the day. Mr. Mcbrain did if I’m not mistaken.
What about sound like Mitch Mitchell without breaking the bank?
That would be sweet!!!
yesss
Es lo más lejano a Copeland ese sonido...
Well done Doug!
Y’all should do a sound like Aaron Gillespie without breaking the bank 🔥
For a kit in that price range that natal sounds amazing
Needs smaller hats. 12 or 13'.
The Hats are the most afar from the police sound.
Watching you play the kit. My three year old daughter says: “He’s pretty!”
¡Drums!
His signature snare sound was a Pearl jupiter snare that was heavily gated.
Would love to see a sound like Reni from The Stone Roses
All of the gears in these sound like videos do they still sell it as brand new??
Please do sound like Reni from The Stone Roses
Sound like Stewart Copeland without playing like him
Stewart used mostly the B8 alloy cymbals back in the Police days. It would have sounded great using Rudes, and 2002’s, but not much cheaper
sounds like mitch mitchell. do it :)
love the content
What kind of ride did Copeland use for the first 2 Police records?
Tosco an Italian brand.
@@centaurus5676 Took a bit of digging but it was actually a Zildjian 22'' ping ride from the 1970's. Took a lot of searching but it's the exact sound for sure.
@@DansRailroad2011 Sorry my mistake, it was Tosco Hi-Hats, yes you are correct on the ride.
The snare is to low
Sound like Matt Cameron in Superunknown, or maybe Jimmy Chamberlin in Gish
I’d love to see Jimmy, I saw the Pumpkins live last year and his playing is awesome
can you revisit lars ulrich with a unlimited budget?
I think the toms should've been tuned higher. Great video btw.
Close, but Copeland actually uses coated remo ambassadors top and bottom for his toms.
Why would you have to have tama drums to get stews sound after all his snare sound was originally a pearl Jupiter and for a while he used ufip ...heads and tuning and technique left hand traditional grip rimshot on the two and 4 excellent vid by the way
Whats the point of tuning the snare with it got about 2 kilo of tejp on it?
Cause that's what he did.
No cowbell?
What is mean by 11/4
If I’m on a budget, I walk past Paiste and Meinl. You guys went to Paiste because he endorses then but if you aren’t using his chosen cymbals you may as well be open to other brands. Sabians are generally cheaper in the big name brands and you can still get a variety of sounds. You can also go to Dream cymbals for even more bang for the buck.
Made all my toms sound like snares
Do a sound like Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee!
No one gonna complete on how tight this dudes playing is?
yeah that snare is not cranked nearly enough
No Bueno on the hats...
Sound like Dave Lombardo, please
Yes yes yes
Do sounds like John dolmayan
Nick menza?
Do Alex Van Halen
surely do sound like Danny Carey. Plz
Sound like Ronnie Vannucci Jr
Frank zummo?
Danny Carey on a budget would be fun to see
Sound like Josh Dun would be interesting
Who the hell is Josh Dun?
Not even close!
This Natal sound great to me, it sound like much more expensive drums
Danny Carey??
Vlad Ulasevich please
You could have pitched the snare high like Copeland... why not lad?
Sound like benny greb
whattt? copeland's sound is higherrrrrr
No, das ist zu weit weg 😮😮😮
No matter who you choose for a “sound like” video you’re gonna automatically get 50 comments saying why don’t you do one for bla, bla, bla drummer 🙄. So damn annoying
Buy SD3 then you have everthingperiod
Snare sounds terrible here compared to stuart. You need to go higher...with everything. And brighter hats too IMHO
This video proves that to "sound" like an artist is impossible. It's not the instrument but t he way they play. I'm sure Stewart can sit on any old crap drumkit and still sound like Stewart Copeland.
it does not sound like Stewart at all
phenix returns I agree and I hate saying something if not complimentary but aside from the drum sound the playing to me sounds like a subdued gospel chops Stewart not like actual Stewart.
Sounds too nice and clean... I don't hear Stewart at all
everything's in English, but when they put the dollar amounts on the screen it may as well Scandinavian or Chinese
Great video, but you’re still far buddy
Denme al pelado siempre, no a este de gorrita
The rack toms are not right at all
Why would I wanna sound like Stewart Copeland?
Please do a bit more research guys before doing another Copeland video guys Please!
Stewart Copeland used the following cymbals back in the day:
Paiste 8" 2002 Bell
Paiste 13" Formula 602 Blue Label Heavy Hats
Paiste 18" 2002 Medium Crash
UFRIP 7.5" Icebell Bell
Paiste 8" 2002 splash
Paiste 10" 2002 splash
Paiste 16" RUDE Ride / Crash
Paiste 18" RUDE 18" RUDE Ride / Crash
Paiste 24" RUDE Ride/Crash
Paiste 22" 2002 China
Paiste 16" 2002 Crash
Also play his actual parts and an don't just guess
Thank you! He even used 12;inch hats for some tours/shows. This was my 1st UA-cam vid. Everything I’m using cost less that $2K US. I left the 1st few bars drumless. I can tell, but nobody else who heard this questioned if this was the Police. I posted this to show em, and they took it down. ua-cam.com/video/XwfPJv5X3mo/v-deo.html
Bubinga Basher he also used a vintage Tama imperialstar with these sizes in either a midnight blue or jet black finish:
10x8 Rack Tom
12x8 Rack Tom
13x9 Rack Tom
16x16 Floor Tom
14x5 Pearl COB Custom Deluxe Snare
4 Tama Octobans low pitched ones
Jonathan Cant Yeah, now he’s got his signature snare. I’ve been considering it, but I have his signature ride, and I like the RUDE, or 2002 24 inch far better. He did change up his cymbals slightly from tour to tour. Before he had a cymbal deal during his first video, he crossed out Paiste, and wrote Copeland...Brilliant!
Oh, as for the Octobobans, I want em, but the price is ridiculous. Back when I was playing I did a Police tribute, and used mini timbales instead. That was weak on my part. Anyone who knows that much about Copeland, I have to subscribe to.
“Without busting the bank” lmao nice try
NO. I want to sound like ME. My kit is nothing like Mr Spindly. I can't play like him and do not want to. Music is not about copying, it's about personal expression. Now, go and buy a life. You CAN'T.
personal opinion.... get better drums and not buy Paiste Signatures... Wasn't a fan of the drums at all
i was a fan of the drums tho
William Allison great... still doesn’t make sense to buy $300 crashes and a cheap kit
@@kyleboggs1966 actually it makes absolute sense. You can make cheap drums sound amazing, well above their price point, with good heads and correct tuning. You can't say that for cymbals. You get what you pay for with them and need the right formula, be that B8-B10-B20, and decent hammering. These Natal's punched way above their weight even if they didn't suit your ears as it's all personal opinion anyway.
Matt Tong from Bloc Party would be sick cos he's so underrated
Please do a sound like ERIC F-IN GALES!
