I can't help but admire the irony of a licensed "all-electric" truck being released by Lego with not a single motor (much less battery pack) in it. That said, another detailed and beautiful review, Sariel
i like the Moc more tbh, but I'm glad we get a smaller size play set with actual functions. We havent seen thos kind of sets a lot in the last couple of years. Great review as always 😊
2 things i want to say : 1) best lego technic garbage truck is the b model of the air tech claw rig, but that may be my preference only... 2) so, basically, you put a hamster in the garbage area, change the load of the bin by almonds and nuts, and get a truck that makes almonds and nuts disappear mysteriously....
Finally, one of those kind of sets that made me fall in love with Technic. On the occasion of the new 4-knob gear, I never understood why you would use 4-knobs instead of regular toothed gears. Is there a practical reason?
You can run these at any angle from 0 to 90 degrees to each other, so they can pass through a hinge while transmitting power. (actually -90 to +90 but it'd be hard to have that full range on an actual mechanism) Whereas U-joints don't like going much past 45 degrees.
Yeah theres that one video where jk brickworks discuss's this garbage can truck thats green and white so they basically copied it but made it with technic or maybe its a coincidence
@@DCcopter How many garbage trucks has side lifting mechanism? If this is inovative way of colcting garbage from bins, it could be coincidece, that they are inspired by same unique car. It's hilarious that so many 2024 sets take direct inspiration from Ideas projects, but then the actual Orient Express has no relation to its original project
@@DCcopter One suggestion might be a coincidence, but when it keeps happening and the terms are made in a predatory way that even if you reach 10K and don't get your submission made into a product, the idea is still owned by Lego BUT if they use it, it's up to their discretion outside of the scope of ideas platform.
@emmetbrickhacker5029 side lifting is standard in many European countries. You only need one person on the truck that way so it's more efficient and far safer.
Garbage trucks have been oddly underrepresented in technic, and this is a pretty nice one, especially as a budget set. Sending love and support to you for your work!
Thank you for mentioning that other garbage truck from Lego Ideas, I had it in mind since the 1st second I saw this one. If I remember well the one on Ideas also had a mecanism that push the garbage towards the rear of the truck. I still like this one, can't complain about the number of functions for a 30$ set ! Thanks for the review !
Thank you for the review AND for bringing up the 10,000 supported set as well. I was truly disappointed that such a fun system set was cast into the bin! But now we know why! Keep up the great reviews!
This is such a great deal for a Lego technic garbage truck. 6.6 cents per piece is very affordable, especially with the inflation still on the rise. Love the colors, and the lifting mechanism is by far the highlight of this set. Cannot wait to see your other Lego Technic January 2024 reviews coming soon!
Hey Sariel - I know UA-cam has been VERY hard on your channel recently. A really easy way to bump up views and subscribers (which in turn makes regular videos grow more) is shorts!! I see that you've put out a couple in the last few weeks, but regularly uploading them is EXTREMELY good for the algorithm. Plus, a really good, easy way to make them is to take a speed build (like the one here), set it to 3000 or 5000% speed, make it vertical, and upload it! Anyways, you obviously don't have to read or listen to me 🤣, just constructive criticism. I still think your reviews are great and I hope your channel makes it past this slump. Keep it up!
I cant help but feel that this set is oddly aspirational: a plastic toy of an electric garbage truck plastered with "recycle" signage--an odd combination, if I do say so myself! To clarify: Since plastic is pretty much not recycled, it's odd to have a plastic toy urging us to recycle. 😂
I honestly think that this is the perfect set... not too small to look completely funky, but not too big to be just another oversized vehicle. It's incredibly affordable for even kids while looking amazing - something that is rare these days.
This specific grabber mechanism has been used in technic sets a few times before, it's not new. However, it's nice that we are getting two features, that are usually only seen in larger sets, in this neat smaller one. Usually it feels like the opposite, where older technic were so much smaller and compact with functions, where the same functions are only seen in larger sets today.
Ill probably get this unfortunate that its so similar to the ideas build but its a decent price, has good functions, looks good and the mechanism seems to well. maybe using slightly larger pieces as the "garbage" would help prevent it from getting stuck.
I feel like Lego Ideas are just a way to create hype before a set gets released and to leverage cheaper licences. Lego Ideas sets are always either licensed (so they aren't relying on fans to bring them to life) or kind of bland and uninspired. don't get me wrong, the functions are always super cool and the design is often top-notch, but like... lego displate in space? Rocket? Grand piano? none of these are original designs. your clock would be cool, a plane with joystick that controls the control surfaces would be educational, a generic "gaming PC" where you build all the components and then put it together... these are, in my opinion, cool ideas with functionality, play value and do more than just sit there. I mean, does anybody remember the marble maze from JKBrickworks? THAT'S what Lego Ideas should do more of
11W is perhaps closer to minifig scale than 13 or 15W, but ultimately too big for the streets of any mini city aswell. If only there was a suitable MOC with a similar mechanism...
I don't find "no really new pieces" as a cons. I dont expect each years to blasts tons of new pieces. This brings a new "meta" to lego building. Too fast changes breaks the consistency of sets accross years.
oof, now that Lego isn't supporting you, you're just letting it rip, right? I mean, I always knew you were fair before but like... openly insulting lego sets like that... I like it
It's a lot smaller than I thought it was, but it's actually on par with another set similar to this. Namely the Recycling Truck from the City theme, which is very closely priced to this Technic version and only 1-2cm smaller in each direction, give or take. So this wouldn't be out of place in someone's Lego City. As for the set, it's pleasing enough and decently functional given its size; you can't go wrong with this one. Good review as always! 👍
I recall my cusin had a yelow/ red garbage truck - set no. 6693, I loved it :) I would prefer a back loading machannism, yet this one looks great So the new bags are more silent vs the old once ? Paper can be noisy
It's a real shame the original set never got approved. Lego and the chinese knockoff companies got themselves another volunteered recipe for success though.
A pretty good set despite the smaller size. Functional, fun, and detailed though aligning the larger stickers looks like a pain. Finally nice to see paper bags used for more of these sets as it may actually serve to lower the price of buying the actual set. Only real complaint is the complete phasing out of a B model option. Other than that a perfect impulse buy and nice display model. Really excited to see what Lego will be able to accomplish with the new gear piece in later sets.

They're considerably stronger.

Nice review! I love the shots and music! You should scan the instructions because they arent available anywhere right now!
They will be available from LEGO.com in 2 weeks.
I found one of these in a kohls the other day and got it
Looking great!
The paper envelopes have finally arrived !!
Thank you for showing this set. :)
It looks quite good - may i should by it. ^^
8:52 same old story. That's a bit of a shame...
Great review! I don't know why they couldn't put a banana peel piece, like in the new Spider-Man/Venom sets...
wow, i think you're the first one to make a review on this. impressive
Thanks. I can't stick to the embargo date if they don't tell me the embargo date ;)

as far as copying the mechanism, I feel like this is simply what you get when you design this function at this scale.

this mechanism was copied. JK Brickworks made a video about a similar truck using mostly system bricks with the same mechanism.

Good thing about spending own money. Can do early review. 42167 will be the best 2024 Technic Jan Wave.
I think the B model for the mack anthem set is much better but this is also less than half what that costs so its pretty good
If they go up a scale this would be amazing.
I bet some moc-ups would fix some of the the problem areas, and make room for a minifigure.
Please note: Electric Garbage Truck does not contain any electic parts.
First I thought they ment electric garbage 😂 EVs
If you buy two sets is it possible to make a mini version of the side loader mack ??
Impressive and unique set for the price. This is what Technic is about, I'm considering buying it to support these kinds of sets
Technic has several space themes for 2024, that look really fun, instead of the many display car sets.

Nope, I think it comes out in March.

My dream set would be this at the scale of the Mack anthem b-model garbage truck.. with a heil python can lifter
Very nice set. Unfortunately those large technic panels are ugly to me so probably won’t get it.
I love when smaller Lego sets absolutly blow the big expensive ones.
At least, one set which comes with only paper bags. Good job.
Is quite sad they can't recreate the headlight with transparent Lego pieces. Quite a minus point for me.
Perfect addiction to all my lego garbage trucks!
It's on my list for sure.

Sorry, but I don't care for the paper bags. The plastic bags aren't that big of a deal.

Is that flip-flop 3x5 L-beam new? Or did I just miss it last year.
You missed it.
Will you review next the 42164?

No, one Mario set had them already.
