Man, thanks for bringing up the fact that they left out some info about the crops. There are a couple of things that I’ve been wanting to know but the reviewers aren’t saying.
The best part of the Sony design is that the left side is free to mount accessories. On the A7III I had a Smallrig coldshoe extender I used to mount my mic on the side, so I was free to use the briefcase mode on my gimble. Then I switched to the A7IV, and even tho the extender didn't fit the camera, the left side was still free, so I just used a 3am doublesided tape, to stick a penny-worth cold shoe to the body, and I was good to go again. This also opens up possibilities to use on camera flash/trigger, and a go pro at the same time to record BTS for photography. On my Fuji X-H2s (still the best bang for the buck hybrid video camera IMO if you don't need a fancy AF tracking since it is kind of bad) I am forced to use a bulky L bracket, with coldshoe attachment for that same functionality, and since no good brand produces L brackets right now (small rig discontinued it) the fit is terrible, and the weight it adds is enourmous. On top of that it limits the LCD movement, so I got the anglegrinder out and cut the s**t out of it, to free up the screen and reduce the weight LOL. Funny how I used plenty of sony camers (A7 II, III, IV, A6300, A6600) professionaly for number of years, and the only freaking thing I miss from them is the bloody free spot on the top left of their bodies FFS!
Looks like all the other cam gears reviewers either love the monkey arm dab or they have 3 arms that could reach the left hand dial...watched 3 Z6iii reviews. Nobody highlighted this except you. Thanks for your info.
YEP 100%! Just place a mode BUTTON on the right! I was at least hoping for the "clover" setup with a mode button, but then Nikon would have had banks instead of user modes. With a button, you COULD potentially FULLY customize it with only the modes you need. Or you could have unlimited user modes. I only need 4, but I need them to save more settings than they do. The lens button mapping is limited. Not every feature is available on them. On the Z8 I couldn't even set F1 directly to spot metering like I can on most other Nikon's, including most of the other Z's. Thom Hogan did an article on firmware recently, pointing out how there's no coordination or consistency between these teams. I never use the top LCD, but some like it, just put it on the left side of the hump. Hopefully it has a FEW (or one) recall settings you can access without the dial; which the ZF should add as well. Nikon can't even tell time, always behind, an 8:04 release. ;) I'm going to check it out anyway, the price is right. How long until we see a Z50II or a Z7III?
I actually prefer the ergonomics of the Z50 and the Z5, which both have all dials on the right side. They just leave out the top LCD screen to do it, which I don’t miss. I frequently use my right hand to switch between stills and videos on my Z5 while hand-holding the 180-600.
Is the recall function for the Fuji something that came with a FWU for the XH2s (can´t remember) at the time you no longer had the camera? Works wonderfully I never use my dial.
I have the Z9 and on that body you can just create custom function button by your middle fingers or ring finger on your right hand next to the lens mount where you hand falls naturally. It allows you to set crop modes as well frame rate by just depressing the button and using the dial to switch. Pretty easy actually. Have you tried that?
On Fuji cameras you can assign a button to recall C1. I use that to swap back and forth between 4k60p/HD240p. If Nikon has that feature, the dial on the left side might not be an issue for you.
For cool photography features everyone is *at best* on Olympus level for everything except autofocus. If only they didn't shackle themselves to m4/3 15 years ago, we could've had a full-frame camera with LiveND, in-camera macro stacking, all customisable buttons, super cool live composite modes that work in handheld because the stabe is lightyears ahead of everyone and an actual IP-rating that only Leica matches or improves on. It's fucking INSANE that nobody except Panasonic is even trying to offer these things in their cameras to this day. Google figured out how to stack photos without ghosting in 2013 with sensors of that era, long before fast readouts or stacked chips.
@@cameraconspiracies ZF was purposely made hard to handle to appease dorks who want to pretend they are shooting with an old film camera and like crappy ergonomics, dials and a hard to find shutter button. and people who want to pretend they are shooting film probably don't care about video. i suspect that the Z6iii shooting banks will be set up like the Z8/Z9 and you'll be able to switch easily without repositioning either hand. have faith, brother. and please get to my photo that i submitted for one of your photo review videos.

@@cameraconspiracies That's why they added custom buttons. Use what they give you for what they were intended for. With a right hand wheel you would lose the top screen. More people use that screen than not.
It just keeps getting even more sad and pathetic for Sony. They released a pro FF body nobody wants or can afford (A9III) and a pro 300 f2.8 nobody wants or can afford (E 300 f2.8GM). Meanwhile its just hit after hit with Nikon, especially for the wildlife/sports action crowd. You have four wonderful PF lenes (300, 500, 600, 800), five phenomenal FL lenses (180-400, 400, 500, 600, 800), the very best pro lenses (400 f2.8 TC and 600 f4 TC), the best 100-400 semi-pro zoom, the best ~180-600 budget zoom, and the incredibly cheap and still viable 200-500 f5.6 for the entry level. Oh, and throw in the 28-400 just to sprinkle that last little pinch of salt right in the Sony users eyeball. Best FF pro flagship, best FF semi-pro flagship, and now the best FF mid-range. Unless Sony releases 8-10 great 300mm+ lenses along with a new FF semi-pro and FF mid-range this year, Nikon's lead will be insurmountable.
As a long-term reader of Ken Rockwell's website, I can say that this is one thing that he has been going on about cameras for a long time. Canon usually gets it on the 'right' side. Somehow, most high-end cameras have it on the left. Does not make sense ergonomically. This seems otherwise like a very promising camera, possibly the D750 of the mirrorless gen.
Hmm, fair points... I don't really do birds yet, just bought a Panasonic G9ii so I can have longer rearch without giant lenses in addition to my Z6ii. I had a lot of complaints about the Panasonic ergonomicscompared to what I'm used to on Nikon, but never thought about using my right hand to turn that dial... Speaking of ergonomics I really wanted an Olympus OM-1, but the fact that they put the on/off switch on the left is compltely rediculos. How do you turn the camera on while your left hand is holding the lens and your right hand is holding the grip, I don't get it.
Z6 iii Fantastic looking camera…Near perfect were it not for the really really terrible image stabilisation wobbling pitching & yawing all over the shop …also adding their E stabe makes it real weird going by today’s UA-cam first look videos Your channel is great Thanks
I think really these days that all cameras are more than capable of excellent results and probably the most important aspect is what gear you enjoy, interface , menu ergonomics etc. Unless you have very specific niche use case . You cannot go wrong, all brands have their pros and cons. I think that increasingly as all cameras get that bit better each generation there is no feature that would make me even consider jumping ship to another brand. Unless your channel is devoted to whining { about everyone 😀 } there are no shortage of cameras more than capable of doing talking head type videos . I find it a touch comical when you see some of the crazy set ups some YT channels have to post typically 4k videos with poor bit-rates and compression applied by YT
Thanks for another laugh buddy! Have you tried the 70-350mm E-Mount? Much smaller wildlife option for APSC but you can use the crop on full-frame if you’ve got the mpx. Good to see how big the 200-600 is in your hand, gives good context about that lens
i menu is accessible with your right hand. Or customizable button. Ideally the dial should be on right side but at this point we are just complaining to complain. The deal breaker for me is the flip screen and Z8 is now in same price bracket.
Lol it's so simple what he's asking for. All a company has to create is a camera that's literally identical in specs, usability, and performance to the A7SIII but with pretty much anyone else's image characteristics 😂 I don't even need the same things in a camera and yet I absolutely feel his frustration on this one. He can't possibly be the only user who has his preferences? I feel like my needs are more niche, and I still found my perfect camera for under $2400. Two years ago. Where is this man's perfect camera??? I want more slowmo wildlife videos 😭
2:48 do you know Nikon gave us these neat little custom action buttons to dial with that are hidden at the fingertip area of the right hand grip but they don’t give us the ability to change custom modes or frame rate, etc. there is so much potential if they would open up the possibilities of what we could assign to those buttons.
Nikon Z8 and Z9 can custom button and dial switch into different banks. I press one button and dial to do it. Should share it on my shot Suvara channel. I have to say, I do miss the A7siii, but I don’t regret selling it.
@@cameraconspiracies Use the numerous programmable lens Fn (function) buttons available on every Nikkor Z telephoto lens. The 600mm and the 180-600mm both have 3. Problem (if it was a problem) solved. You're welcome :)
But why would you waste a function button for a thing that should in a right place from start? In Z5 and Z50 they've made the dial properly on the right side and by this they made them more professional than their professional models :)
@@kynio3433 How many lens function buttons does one need? I use the 3 lens Fn buttons for switching to 3D tracking AF, bracketing, and WB...and the only button I really use is the 3D tracking one. I agree, my only complaint about the Z f is I think they could have done one more camera Fn button - but it is a mild complaint, as all the Nikkor Z telephoto have 3 programmable Fn buttons.

The deal breaker is that Sony will totally trump this in not too distant future. They have to come up with something that is clearly the best buy not just catching up. The Z8 is the one worth buying but that's a whole lot more cost. In the meantime while Sony, Nikon and Canon compete, Panasonics are going for silly low money second hand. The Panasonics are undervalued.
@@cameraconspiracies hey I see you did try already in your recent video :) Not even half bad! You're natural 👍 No, I totally get what you're saying. It makes sense. Dude. The reason is they don’t package the one all, be end all camera…is. Ready for it? Then what would they release the next year? It’s simple. They release what they release is because people buy it. If people started “voting” with their money, it would be a different world. We are all like homeless dogs, taking whatever scraps we accept.
Here is whats hilarious to me Kasey, the Nikon Z6 III, has worse dynamic range in BOTH video AND photo than the Panasonic G9M2 and GH7, now. Lets take a moment and realise, WHAT IN THE F"&/#???? How the livid cup did Nikon achieve worse dynamic range than a micro four thirds sensor? LOL! Its too funny for me, we are literally going backwards in features, 4k120p WITH A CROP? LOL Again its just ridicules, the IBIS is basically the same from Z f which means its basically Fuji level, unusable. Nikon Z6 III for 2500 dollars, is it better than S5M2? Yes and no, better slow mo video, WAY WORSE dynamic range, unusable IBIS in video, it does shoot internal RAW, but the latest Pannies also shoot RAW to a SSD which imao makes more sense cause a 4TB SSD is a lot cheaper than a 1TB Express Card which you definitely need those RAW files are monstrous. I also like they made it a hybrid yet includes that silly tiny little screen on top of the camera for some reasons, I mean no one ever thought about just moving that tiny little screen to the left side I mean we do not need that screen even in photography its literally just look down to the mainscreen and "oh wow my shutter speed is 1/200 oh my ISO is 320?" but no, Nikon adding a tiny little screen so that those perverts can keep taking pictures in mens baths with the camera at their waist without looking suspicious. Its just all a big joke to me, the industry is a joke, I been in this for way too long like over a decade and I basically used MFT cameras for all the jobs as long as I just add a grip to them and use the big lenses, the customers do not care they cannot tell the difference, "Oh your camera is so large, you must be a real pro" thats basically their reaction, full frame is so nice but A7s3 was the only one that appealed to me because I have greater hatred for jello effect then I do for Canon cripple hammer.
Does the Nikon Z6 iii have auto focus at 240fps in HD? Currently have Panasonic G9 mk2 and that can get up to 300fps but with manual focus. How would you compare the two cameras for super high speed video at 240fps?
I think nikon bodies always have two custom buttons on the right front, and also the big lenses have custom buttons so while you hold them you can still change settings. I must say the camera looked kinda big in the preview. I am more worried about the size and weigth.
It’s true you need all the help you can get to snag those groundbreaking squirrel videos. I look forward to not watching you not struggle with that left side dial.
Casey never learned how to rotate a camera body. Too used to holding it level. Rotate the lens hand 30-40 degrees and you have easy access to the mode dial. It shows he's always been a video guy, not a photographer. Most of the best wildlife photographers used Nikon pro bodies like the D3, D4, D5; all with the mode dial on the left. Same with the Z9. But, stick to what you know. Always be entertaining.
The useless Nikon Z6 3 commercials are popping up allround youtube. They learned nothing from the Panasonic S9 debacle. But i guess i have to thank them, saves me a lot of time only coming here for a real review. Not some paid commercial.
Your color grading has drastically improved recently. Not sure if it’s 100% cinematch but I bet your viewers would like an updated behind the scenes of your new grading process and some talk about your shift from “I want the best straight out of camera for UA-cam hobos” to “I’m a color grading master look at the pop and rich colors! This hobos got a bow tie now”
Why not put the silly screen on the left side and the dial on the right, would make much more sense, in my opinion. Especially for Nikon, since they're clearly focusing on Wildlife and sports. But I'm pretty sure you can get by with assigned hotkeys for your most important functions, without ever needing the dial.
At least on the Z8/9 you can program the mode switch to a fn-key (on the front - near the grip) - even better then all of them. But presumably this does not work with the Mode dial NIkon Z's...
I'm all for having as many dials and physical buttons as possible, but any dials on the left side of the body should be strictly "extra", redundant, or 100% customizable. Whatever function they control should either be able to be controlled by another button/dial on the right side of the camera, or be a function that would otherwise not have any physical dial/button at all. No mission-critical or frequently used functions should be placed over there, especially if that is going to be the only way to control that function.
When will we see the Z6 IV next summer ! Nothing amazingly new here...however the content creators and influencers may love it, not for $2500...hmmm, your so right!

@4mb127 4 120fps apsc, 6k60, nraw prores raw, prores 422, half stacked sensor, very good view. Gerald undone test it a bit and it doesn't overheat in ambient temperature room like some sonys, I think the price is okay and probably will go down after a while.
Thanks Joe Biden
Just picked up a panny s5II with 2 lens brand new for 2k €.
hahahahaah this guy talking about color science. lol
It's a shame they don't give you two function buttons you could use to switch video modes....
Looking forward to next weeks video…top five reasons the custom mode dial should be on the left hand side
As a z8 user, you wouldnt use the mode dial to change video modes, you’d use one of the function buttons on the grip. But I see your point!
Kasey never fails to amaze me no matter how many times I watch his videos
Man, thanks for bringing up the fact that they left out some info about the crops. There are a couple of things that I’ve been wanting to know but the reviewers aren’t saying.
You can ask the bird to change the dial for you. Can’t do that when it’s on the right side because the bird is too scared to be so close to your hand.
🤣🤣🤣
Just as an aside the 240FPS is 10 bit and can shoot in log...
“it laid a nest”….. hah
Can you add that to the function buttons on the right, by the lens?
You are the funniest dude on UA-cam. Also, digging the glow up.
I actually prefer the ergonomics of the Z50 and the Z5, which both have all dials on the right side. They just leave out the top LCD screen to do it, which I don’t miss. I frequently use my right hand to switch between stills and videos on my Z5 while hand-holding the 180-600.
Enjoying the The Angry Photographer without the bile.
That's not in the Z6 III.
On Fuji cameras you can assign a button to recall C1. I use that to swap back and forth between 4k60p/HD240p. If Nikon has that feature, the dial on the left side might not be an issue for you.
What a hoot! You and “Fro” should do a road show together!
You are Spiritually ENLIGHTENED and DONT deny it.
P.s get some muscles.
The left hand dial… This is why bois need to be proficient with the reach around manoeuvre.
Nikon Z8 has mode banks that you switch with right hand dials and each can have different PASM mode as well as resolution and frame rate.
Well ZF doesn't.
@@cameraconspiracies Zf carries a completely separate design language. I would be surprised if z6III followed that rather than the one of z8/z9
@@cameraconspiracies ZF is in the peasant camera category for design.
@@cameraconspiracies But this is about the Z6 iii, not the ZF🙂😇
NO PROBLEM!
Just rotate the camera 180 degrees so the dials are now on the bottom of the camera and easily reached by either hand!
Everyone has been holding their cameras wrong this whole time.
Thats a good ideia…
I don’t understand anything about cameras, I don’t understand your camera lingo… is like you are talking in another language…But maaaan your sarcasm and the way you make your videos appeals to me, that’s why I watch you. Very entertaining!!! Keep it up!
What about the lack of a sensor shield? That could be an issue with sensor dust, particularly if you swap lens in the outdoors
You do realize you can assign the 2 function buttons by your right fingers to recall any settings you would need to change. I use one on the Z8 to switch from high shutter shots to slow shutter panning in an instant. Learn the camera settings.
Takes up a custom button, and makes the dial useless. All could be easily solved with a proper right hand dial.
@@cameraconspiracies That's why they added custom buttons. Use what they give you for what they were intended for. With a right hand wheel you would lose the top screen. More people use that screen than not.
@@JET-Photo I don't need the top screen, most people say they don't use it. It could move to the left hand side, just as easy to see...
If you were left-handed you might like it. I am a Canon guy and I like their cameras.
D750 also had the mode dial on the left :)))
@@FawfulDied yes, I know. I wanted to mention it as was otherwise good compromise in their line-up :)
Next video served up after this one: Petapixel - Nikon Z6 III: It's finally here, and it's FANTASTIC! > ROFL
Yeah this does kinda suck, but coming from a D5300 i think i'll be happy, especially if custom buttons can take care of this.
Z6 iii Fantastic looking camera…Near perfect were it not for the really really terrible image stabilisation wobbling pitching & yawing all over the shop
…also adding their E stabe makes it real weird going by today’s UA-cam first look videos
Your channel is great
Thanks
How do you know all that ? You had the camera in your hands for a few days ?
The peta pixel’s review video samples looked wobbly
Are we gonna address the ninja turtle shell in the back? :D
Thanks for another laugh buddy! Have you tried the 70-350mm E-Mount? Much smaller wildlife option for APSC but you can use the crop on full-frame if you’ve got the mpx. Good to see how big the 200-600 is in your hand, gives good context about that lens
Sony's next innovation will be: buy a Sony camera and get a fan for free.🤣🤣🤣🤣 but with the button on the side you like👍 the fan button obviously.
At least someone is telling the truth on UA-cam.
It is true because it is what you like to hear ?
What do you think about top LCD display?
Do you need them?
i menu is accessible with your right hand.
What dial are you complaining about exactly? You can switch the video via the mymenu quick menu, no?
What’s the Zip Code for Nitpick City?
2:48 do you know Nikon gave us these neat little custom action buttons to dial with that are hidden at the fingertip area of the right hand grip but they don’t give us the ability to change custom modes or frame rate, etc. there is so much potential if they would open up the possibilities of what we could assign to those buttons.
Isn’t it fate to assign your favorite mode to a function button?
Nikon Z8 and Z9 can custom button and dial switch into different banks. I press one button and dial to do it.
Should share it on my shot Suvara channel.
I have to say, I do miss the A7siii, but I don’t regret selling it.
ZF doesn't.
@@warn0245 I just don't want to be in a situation that I miss one Fn button, that I've used to duplicate another button that is already on the body, but in wrong place due to poor design. Of course the original button cannot be reprogrammed, because of reasons. Why?
I'm still waiting for my perfect left handed camera with all controls and grip on the left.
I want ambidextrous camera with grips on both sides.
They all leap frog each other. haha
Waiting for A7V, A7SIV and FX6 mk2 then :D.

Didn't even know left dial was an issue 🤣 Always used it with the left hand, never knew it can be different.
Try it with a telephoto lens while keeping a bird in your frame.
@@cameraconspiracies hey I see you did try already in your recent video :) Not even half bad! You're natural 👍
No, I totally get what you're saying. It makes sense. Just myself personally never had such an experience. These big lenses are expensive and on a different level from me and my 16-300 dx tamron zoom :)
Like your delivery style! Thanks for your content.
Dude. The reason is they don’t package the one all, be end all camera…is. Ready for it? Then what would they release the next year? It’s simple. They release what they release is because people buy it. If people started “voting” with their money, it would be a different world. We are all like homeless dogs, taking whatever scraps we accept.
Look at the bright side Sir, nobody is twisting your arm to buy anything. You don't like it then you don't buy it. As simple as that :-))
Here is whats hilarious to me Kasey, the Nikon Z6 III, has worse dynamic range in BOTH video AND photo than the Panasonic G9M2 and GH7, now. Lets take a moment and realise, WHAT IN THE F"&/#????
How the livid cup did Nikon achieve worse dynamic range than a micro four thirds sensor? LOL! Its too funny for me, we are literally going backwards in features, 4k120p WITH A CROP? LOL
Again its just ridicules, the IBIS is basically the same from Z f which means its basically Fuji level, unusable.
Rage on, rage man.
😂😂😂That intro though
Yeah the Z6III is a great marketing trick to boost Z8 sales.
Having all these options is a bad thing? Now you are hilarious
Is there any camera or lens you like ????
Does the Nikon Z6 iii have auto focus at 240fps in HD? Currently have Panasonic G9 mk2 and that can get up to 300fps but with manual focus. How would you compare the two cameras for super high speed video at 240fps?
Yes
If nikon gives sony a reason to do any advancements in tech then that would be fantastic
Sony is just waiting for everyone to catch up. 😂
@@Bobsmithabc ergonomics and lens selection is still better on canon and nikon (for wildlife)
@@swordz2330 perhaps. I’m only concerned with video.
Its the right camera for me. I anyway loose the subject even if the dial is on the right 😅
I think nikon bodies always have two custom buttons on the right front, and also the big lenses have custom buttons so while you hold them you can still change settings. I must say the camera looked kinda big in the preview. I am more worried about the size and weigth.
Quality weighs. I've driven nails with my old D4, D5, and D6. LOL
How about picking one video mode and sticking with it, btw photographers are concerned about this ..... NOT 🤣🤣🤣 you slipped up, you mentioned Canon😝🖐
Giving the Nikon 1.8G a lot of credit with 1.8T :P Could you not set one of the 2 front function buttons to video mode settings? hmm
Yes you right! , Nikon should move top lcd out.
The useless Nikon Z6 3 commercials are popping up allround youtube. They learned nothing from the Panasonic S9 debacle.

Your color grading has drastically improved recently.

Maybe your not use to more dynamic range, you get from the Z series 1.2 85mm, go heavy on the S curve to get the older DSLR range.
