We never got these anti drug PSA commercials in Canada. All we got here was "why be you when you can be me", "because I'm a girl", some boy being chased by a gang of crazed girls, one about helping your kids to express themselves creatively, another about why kids become bullies, and infamously, don't put it in your mouth.
I remember those "Gotta have my Pops" commercials...It's really bizarre that they always delve into the pathology of the person who NEEDS the cereal...It's like going to the mind of drug addict experiencing withdrawals. XD
Especially ironic considering it follows an anti-drug ad. In retrospect, a lot of ads used the language of drugs for inconspicuous products while telling you cannabis would ruin your life. It's like they were saying, "don't use those drugs, use OUR drugs instead!"
The anti-drug ads here are targeted at children and middle schoolers, who I think most rational people agree should probably not be imbibing in cannabis. There are zero ads for any other kind of drug or substance here. Your argument is fallacious.
I love the promos and some commercials that used to air on Saturday mornings. and there are some network bumpers that are cool, and some that would look scary to me. don't ask me why, it just does.
1:38 and 7:16--The Nestle Quik (it's still around, but now called Nesquik) bunny is an advertising icon. 2:08--Those cheesy ranch and taco ranch salad dressings look interesting. 2:38--"Leggo my Eggo" is an iconic advertising slogan. I was a young adult when these spots aired, but when i was a kid I wondered what the connection was between Eggo waffles and Lego toys! 3:50--By this time it was considered taboo to use the word "sugar" in the name of a cereal. When I was a kid they were called "Sugar Corn Pops," and I think they were originally just "Sugar Pops."
Yeah I worked in a store that sold tons of candy around this time, and I don't remember the 'Pull N Peel' Twizzlers at all. It's entirely possible it wasn't marketed in my city.
7:46--I'm just glad they didn't call it "licorice." Licorice is a plant extract used as a flavoring, and only the black ones (which have that flavor) should rightfully be called that.
I'm not quite sure why labeling things was such a big deal back. then. I want some Hidden Treasures cereal. We don't get cool stuff like that these days!
