That is amazing. The car was totally off the ground for about 100 ft. and had about an 800 ft. wheel stand landing at least 100 ft. past the finish line.
I was there. Way down on the fence on the left side. I believe they keep you just shy of the 1/8 mile mark. From where I was standing, I thought the body came off. And then we all turned our heads to watch the big screen replays
Notice how the burst panel blew open, that kept the body from detaching and possibly hitting Roberts car in the opposite lane.. Safety measures at work..
PRE CBS FENDER ummm🤦♂️ I just so happen to work for Cruz on his funny car!!! have you ever seen how we latch the body down in front? We have 2 titanium latches . This is why the front of the body tends to stay attached while the rest of the body shreds. Where the body mounts to the chassis on the rear tree we have a C notched hanger. This allows us to remove the body like we do with 3 guys. When the body detached from the rear of the car but stayed attached to the front of that car it went from being a scoop to a kite.
@@groomlake51 dude i know exactly how the body attaches..again, that burst panel opening allowed just enough air to escape keeping the body attached.. remember opinions are like assholes.. everybody has one.. i sure hope Cruzer gets a win soon, its been too long..when is Cruz going to hire a productive crew chief who'll put him on the podium.. or is he going to continue to drive and tune this year..?
He actually would’ve ran a faster time had the front wheels been on the ground. The timing light was tripped with his back tires instead of his front tires!!!
Its called "Top fuel funny car ..TF/FC".. They run the same exact nitro methane 500cc hemi engine as the Top Fuel dragsters.. Same engine shorter wheel base...
PRE CBS FENDER The body only detached from the rear though, is that what you meant? That is what saved him... He flew her home perfectly with a sunset.. That thing is a fucking monster that's one thing I do know.
fla playa The burst panel opened, allowing air to flow threw the body, which kept the body from fully detaching and possibly hitting Robert Heights car in the other lane.. that would of been ugly.. The Burst panel safety measure.. its actually designed to open during a blower explosion, and a wheel stand..
I hate the bodies of funnies now, they all are the same square slabs of fiberglass. Best time for funnies was the 70's. By the mid-80's the individuality was fading away and you couldn't tell a Ford from a Mopar.
I liked how he got the Snap-on logo perfectly horizontal at the finish line, now that's skillful advertising
It is perfectly level!
This family has been putting on a great show for decades.

Incredible!! That’s MAXIMUM TRACTION!!!! 😮
Looking at the sky at that speed ...that was totally bad ass!
That is the best drag racing video ever. It is the real life example of those outrageous drag racing cartoons.
Toooo freakin cool
Best fucking wheely EVER wins the race on two wheels at over 300mph across the finish line. You got it going on Cruz
Ummm, negative… 218 mph!!!
That is truly unreal.

Where was this at ? Tia
Vegas 😂 I just saw it, too busy looking at the wheelie😅😂👊
Holy Shit!
unbeliveable

The burst panel is held in with 4 small zip ties. The body coming unlatched @ the rear tree while staying connected at the front is what saved him
@@groomlake51 The rear tree is irrelevant..if that burst panel didn't open up and allow air to escape that body would of flew off.. 100 % guaranteed..

I wonder how many times Cruz'r said 'Ohshit Ohshit Ohshit'

Las Vegas 2016, hallowe’en and John Force got the Wally. Great day.
I saw that on Facebook
Watched that live.....NUTS!
was this from all access?
Sick!
One in a million🦾😎
it's funny car not top fuel
Its called "Top fuel funny car ..TF/FC".. They run the same exact nitro methane 500cc hemi engine as the Top Fuel dragsters.. Same engine shorter wheel base...
The most unbelievable shit I've ever seen in Top Fuel. Man's lucky to be alive.
Cruz has been threw a hell of a lot worse than that.. I'm sure it got his heart pumping, Just another day at the office for the Cruzer..
True that but the way the body came up to save the day was out of this world.. They must have anticipated that happening.
fla playa Notice how the burst panel blew open.. that kept the body from detaching.. NHRA safety first..

That was awesome that should be the best ever did he win

What a wheel job, Cruz is so good. Could have been way worse, he feathered the throttle so it didn't just slam down, unreal driving...
You know Cruz had a TIGHT grip on that seat....😅
Great video, thanks for sharing!
I'm guessing his blood pressure was over 200 when he got to end of track.
