- Discover Evelyn De Morgan's artwork in this recording of an online event exploring 'Painted Dreams', an exhibition featuring thirty of her remarkable artworks. Sarah Hardy, Director of the De Morgan Museum, explores De Morgan’s progression as an artist, her technical mastery, and her groundbreaking responses to pressing social and political issues like feminism, inequality, and pacifism.
Revisiting her historic 1907 solo show, this exhibition reunites significant works that challenged Victorian norms, particularly the notion that professional art was a male domain. Sarah provides insights into how De Morgan used mythological narratives to address timeless themes of human existence.
Stunning presentation. You bring De Morgan's work so beautifully and vividly alive as it was presented and experienced in 1907. The exhibition catalogue notes and quotations from poetry or descriptions of the mythological background to her painting e is breathtaking for as any lover of De Morgan deeply feels her deep engagement and and often transformation of myth creates a vibrant world of crosstalk and reinterpretation. Seeing her work in the context of the exhibition reinforces what simply the ravishing beauty of her work. Wonderfully conceived and presented video. I will be watching this one several times.
Saw it last week and it's already my fave Pre-Raphaelite exhibition for 2025. Well done!
