I have this same bench (the EliteFTS version), and I agree with all your points on its quality and functionality. On your observation of it contributing to the fraying of bands, I suspect it has more to do with the band rubbing against itself; the metal band pegs roll and have a smooth chrome finish, and I just don't suspect that being the source of the friction wear as much as the band is to itself.
That machine is a beast. Totally agree about the utility of a leg ext/curl in the home gym. Isolating Hammies and even more so quads is very tough to do in the home gym without that machine.
I have the lower grade EliteFTS version with is a little over $1000. Super quality and a little bit smaller footprint. Though the long pad isn't adjustable. Great review!
Brandon your the man I appreciate you taking the time to give me some specs on this unit that wasn’t listed on elitefts or Williams strength. I ended up picking up one of these units a couple months ago on fb brand new and it’s awesome if I could have something custom done to it to make it even better would be to make the butt pad adjustable for a better extension angle. This thing is a better lying leg curl then the magnum fitness commercial plate loaded unit I had before and a very humbling machine. Again appreciate the help/ work you do.
Seated leg curl and lying leg curl seem to hit hamstrings differently. I never noticed before but after having a hamstring injury this week I can tell. I feel the pain on lying curl but not seated. Makes me feel like the lying leg curl is more like a preacher curl vs the seated is more like a freeweight curl. I dunno, just rambling
Really cool piece with a nice custom touch. Looks sick in your gym! Adding a leg ext/curl combo unit in my home gym ended up being a great decision. I went with a seated style, plate loaded by Xmark. Small footprint and like you said, sometimes you just want to isolate the quads or hams and not have to do another multi joint exercise.
I was happy to see that you published a review on this one. Thanks for the honest feedback. Makes me wish I had a bigger gym but I have a good workaround right now
I already have a Rogue Rhino and tried to rig up my own versions of leg curl/extensions with various attachments trying to avoid buying another piece of equipment. It was ultimately a pain to set up and didn’t feel effective. I couldn’t justify the cost of the signature model for my needs just because of the seal row feature and customization. I was able to pick up a basic model of these during Elitefts November sales after months of over analyzing Brandon’s original video plus whatever else I could find on UA-cam, Reddit, Facebook. I’ve only had it for two weeks but I feel this is going to serve my needs very well for my one person garage gym. All of Brandon’s points are spot on (except the band color 😂) but I would choose this unit (base version) every time over other similar options.
I'm surprised I've been so good about holding off on the rhino. I really want one, but just feel like it wouldn't get used as much as the price/space it requires.
I’m liking my Xmark leg curl/extension machine which I bought this fall. $780 inc tax/delivery. Plate loaded but you can adjust it to maximize the resistance where you want it. I like lots of tension early on because that’s about where my sticking point is on squats. It’s a little awkward getting in it with my extreme setting but it works.
Do you have enough room in your basement for a 35/45 degree plate loaded leg press? Rogue makes a nice leg press, and it will be challenging for you to move the heavy unit, into your basement.
White Lion Athletics makes small black bands. Pricey unit. I wouldn’t mind a leg curl/leg extension machine but for me, it’s finding the correct piece. I have weird leg proportions and find a lot of them just don’t suit me. I stick with leg curls with bands, not great but okay with no added cost or footprint
Great video and review! There is a black band from Rogue, you just got to get stronger! Maybe a good motivation to keep using it lol From having a similar one and switching to a selectorized one, I dont know if I could ever go back to a plate loaded version like this. Only disadvantage is that the seat doesnt go up for leg extensions (not that I do leg extensions) but its helpful. What was the lead time on this piece considering custom work? You should have gone with the Sorinex one with your custom logo!
I actually picked up a fabric white band from BoS that might solve both issues. The Sorinex one probably would have been more compact and a tad nicer in terms of having to load since it's selectorized, but I don't think it was worth the $2500 more and it has it's own issues where the whole machine can move while in use if not bolted down. I don't recall my initial timeline, but for the other pieces I was quoted 8-12 weeks and they all met or exceeded (at the time)
That's hilarious Brandon, I just purchased the sorinex leg extension/ leg curl machine 3 weeks ago and they charged me $2,000 for shipping to Seattle. They wouldn’t lower the price I assume because they are more marketable to college / high school facilities? Prime Fitness was cheaper for shipping, however the waitlist is like a year or longer. Stray dog is coming out with a leg curl/ hamstring machine in a week, but they told me that 5 weeks ago, and can’t wait any longer, although cost and shipping would be both cheaper than sorinex. I got the same color as the picture you showed red and black. I looked at all those attachments you can set up on the power rack such as the Isolater etc. but I just wasn’t sold on any of them with the resistance issues or non resistance, check out Alan Thralls video on his leg extension from Bells of Steel and you will see what I mean? Anyways good video and BTW ur video helped me get those end caps in my new barbell but I bought the specific pliers that you used, worked perfectly no issues!
Dang, yeah their shipping blows. I think part of it is like you said, they tend to do big spaces all at once so they bake everythign in. I did see yesterday Bells of Steel is coming out with a knock off version of the selectorized piece.
Maybe a 3D printed piece that slides over the existing peg and rotates with each rep would reduce the friction to stop it from fraying. Can’t tell from your video if the included peg rotates or not.
Looks like a great piece. I just use my scout hyper for leg curls and extensions. Not ideal.. stand alone piece would be great. When is the black and white theme going to creep up the stairs and wall? 🤣
Off topic but thinking of getting belt squat to add volume on leg days and not exhaust my back which after a few sets and deadlifts earlier in the week can be sore for days after. If you had to pick between Squat Max from Titan or Rogue Rhino curious which you'd buy?
So take this with a grain of salt bc I don’t like supporting Titan. Most that I’ve heard from who have used both say the feel of the squat max is superior. However most agree it’s a pain to load and set up. The rhino while easier to set up, is expensive and takes up more room. However I also think it may be more versatile. If I had to pick, I’d go rhino.
I appreciate and understand. I feel the same but due to limited space and adjustability of the load (pin on front/rear or top stressing muscles differently) and the fact that I'll probably just keep 3 45s on there and then add for heavier sets thinking Squat Max fits the small garage gym. I can see in videos the Rhino slightly pulling people forward unless perfectly setup on it. The loading is so much easier. I'm going to make some sort of 1/2 to 1 inch spacers between plates after the first 2 or 3 45s.@@BasementBrandon
You have a sharp machine there. Yeah, the Sorinex one would be great but over $3500 to your door is steep. Shipping costs kills us, $1000 to ship that's crazy. The cost of any piece is one thing but you have to add shipping onto the cost of the piece because you've got to get it to your house. There needs to be stores to walk into, buy your piece, and take it home, like a Rogue store, REP store, etc. in most major cities. Prices would be a lot lower if we removed shipping costs and free shipping costs us even more after they bake it in. I bought a similar machine from Deltech but it was $321 to my door. It's not as nice as yours but it is very well built. Honestly, I don't see how they can sell it for that price as high quality as it is. They only have 1 color though white frame and black seat. Your colors. I'm sure you've seen it. Home gym equipment has tripled in price from 10-15 years ago, got to be a ceiling where things start leveling off or coming down. Nice piece Take Care
