- Jeep Wrangler YJ - Rear frame rot is common on these rigs that come from the northern rust belt. Here I show what needs to be done to prep the metal and where to weld these plates in to repair the rear spring mounts.

this guy really knows his stuff.
Thanks!! Glad you like the vid!! Thanks for taking the time to leave a cool comment! Have a great day!
Howdy!
Whats the low down on the rust repair "kits"?
I gotta do rear shock mounts on my YJ "Rattle Trap" :(
Lets go Wheelin!
Why not prime and paint the underside of the plates? Also why not weld over the paint? Would that cause problems with the welding? Thanks.
They make a weld able primer. Shoot the primary to seal the metal, then you can weld where the primer is. I still grind back the primer because I want to minimize any contamination in the weld.
I have learned a lot from each and every video of yours I watched! I have a 1992 wrangler, which I have dedicated many man hours to try to make it run properly! This is fourth year of trying, and no improvement!!!! This is only a 4 cylinder gas engine ohv. Have all the things written down that i have done, replaced, etc. I NEED HELP!!!! CAN ANY ONE ADVISE ME? IN ADVANCE I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU!!!
Whats the problem with it?
I have noise coming from my transfer case without using four-wheel-drive any diagnosis 89 yj
Ooof, that's a lot of rust. Planning on taking off the bucket and getting a powder coat over the frame to keep it from rusting more?
Nah, not yet. The jeep's back in Texas and I'm out in California at the moment. I'll be getting back at it in about five weeks. Thank's for that vid by the way.
No problem! Hope it helped :-) .
I've been to San Antonio a few times at Lackland Air Force base. I like that area!!
Hmmm. Could it be a comanche/scrambler or some type of pick-up/extended bed in the near future? Will it only have 2 seats?
You are on the right track! Sort of a stretched flatbed truck style. Mainly the 2 front seats yes. I'm thinking about making the bed section with side walls high enough to hold the factory rear seat, haven't totally decided on that yet. Thanks for dropping in!! Have a great day!!
Great vid. I’ve got a 93YJ in a similar issue. My goal is either repair and stretch the frame to CJ8 length or part it out and buy an LJ.
Heads up, you can buy new framehorns from autorust.com. you’d still have to cut the old and weld in the new.
Hey what are those Fabulous silver wheels on there YJ?
They are 5 hole Ultras. They were on my 1991 YJ when I bought it.
great help
Glad it helped! Have a great day!
great video
Thanks! Glad you liked it! Thanks for dropping in! Have a great day!
Hey question did you prep the patch metal
I grind all the loose flakey rust off the parent metal. I use a flap wheel to prep the patch metal and parent metal.
If those metal pieces need a good home I could sure use them trying to fix my life up on medical retired pay from the Army
