Beautiful machine! I have a 1996 bullet 500 classic with only 565 original miles on it, and I love it! Nothing like the sound of a big single!!!! Keep up the good work!!!
I had a bullet 350. Some of the alloy castings were awfully soft stuff. Mine was a '89 model. They do have their weaknesses. The big end bearing is one and rockers that are inclined to become rather noisy. They are flaws inherited from the English original. Me & my father have both had 350 Bullets. Both our bikes died from knackered big ends. His was the British-made original forty years before my curried version. I wish the rockers were fed from the feed oil pump, not the scavenge side.
I had a 1960 Royal Enfield 350 Bullet, I did thousands of miles on it, the rockers never went out of adjustment, ever, the bike never needed any repair work of any kind save paint, tyres and a new battery. I once took off the head and barrel in a fit of enthusiasm, just to check the bore, It had no significant wear after more than 20,000 English miles. It wasn't worth wasting an oversize to re-bore it, so I just honed it and fitted new rings. Compression was enough to stand on the kick start.
I also had an original 1957 Royal Enfield Bullet 350cc. And (just like you) I agree that this bike was exceptional. Always reliable, and it was unbreakable. The only time that it failed me was when a Clutch Cable snapped. I still rode the bike home - minus clutch! Back then, the bike had twin front brake cables, and a brake balancer device. Twin leading shoe brakes at the front. I do not know why India didn't continue with this. Possibly because of front Disc Brake later..... I was 19 yrs old back in 1967 when I had this bike. I am seventy now, and often think of the pleasure and great times that the Royal Enfield gave to me. Best part of all, was that I only paid seven english pounds for this bike at that time. Absolutely nothing at all wrong with it. They have a unique exhaust note too!
aSkepticalman: The noise was due to rear on the bearing surfaces of the rockers. The issue is that the oil pressure on the scavenge side isn't enough to force oil right across the entire surface of the rocker bearing. I loved my Bullet & I would have another. But if it was the original engine design never with factory crank/conrod, oil pump & piston.
hi , A small "noob" Q , the rear rack as marc mentioned ... quoted part # Z90846 can this rack be used for mouting a single rear seat too ?? or its primarily for luggage/baggage etc.... Full credits on the perf improvements , she idles really nice and one gleaming hot hogg!!! cheers
Hi! First and foremost, cool video. I was considering purchasing the 612cc kit from Hitchcock to put on my RE Sixty-5. What's the compression ratio with the 612cc kit installed?
Does it have two different rearviewmirrors? Anyway, the right one look very nice. Could fit on my Enfield as well...hehe. What make/model are these, please? Cheers!
intresting option the use of bar end and regular mirror combined...i'll try it on mine...i've crushed the left bar end and replaced with 2 chromed normal but i still have the right bar end...only problem is that bar end tend to be useless if you're not of the right size...at least...i've never managed to get the right angle to fit them :|
Fantastic bike, would love to hear more. As you began to increase the revs the sound was so raw, put me in mind of the real old fire breathers that used to tear around. Did you intend to tease us all? Thanks for the video.
You probably have a 350, not a 650. This is not a UCE (unit construction engine), but a proper old style ICE (iron cylinder engine), with its separate gearbox and primary drive chain case. If you want one like this, get a 500 and contact Hitchcocks Motorcycles in England for the necessary parts. They're not cheap.
Stunning example, they just don't make engines like this anymore, they are all short stroke high revving engines sounding the same :(
I. Want this bike what price

would you be willing to sell your bullet 500?
Beautiful tick - over . Aint heard any better . Lovely machine .
Damn that sounds good! Definitely looking at getting this mod for my Bullet. . .
It's probably a 612cc kit from Hitchcock, pretty much plug and play.

Are you talking about increasing or decreasing the crank weight?

Awesome; just awesome 😊
For sale??
they makes shit now
que aburrido siempre verlas en el garaje y relucientes sacarlas fuera a su habitad que no son un cuadro...
For the most part, it's eight cycling at idle. Megaphone exhaust is not a plus. The machine is a total beauty though, well done restoration.
