In my opinion it's the combination of the Wal and his playing with a pic (as well as tons of effects of course ;-) - at least with Tool. That said, check out this video (JC on a P-Bass) - you can still clearly hear hir it's hime! ua-cam.com/video/pN24LQlMmDk/v-deo.html
Great playing and tone! Apart from the Wal, what else are you using to get that clean tone? Beautiful crunchy grit, mids and highs without sounding harsh. Well done.
I like re-amping in Logic. It beefs it up nicely. I use native insturments guitar rig and like the bass invader plugin. Other than that it's some extra post compression and a little eq to bring those mids out. the Wal has an XLR output right on the bass and it is glorious so I go direct into my digital mixer with it. hope this helps.
I do have it! it is much easier and cleaner to play the intro with the pedal. for this video I thought I would go old school wal wah via knob but I do prefer the pedal
@@jeffbeverly sound really good, also adding 1 rep delay at ~358ms and low volume, with a sparkle of chorus makes a whole difference. Thanks for posting your videos.
Killer bass. Great job, best tool bass covers on UA-cam! 👍
this made my day. thank you
I've said it before but J.C.'s tone really is in the Wal. You prove my point. Excellent playing
so very true. I was chasing his tone forever and was never happy until the Wal. It's really incredible

Did you get the JC Dunlop Pedal? Has a tone wah that emulates Wal bases tone bend, perfect for this intro.
