Suit up for classic comedy! Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take a chance on going freelance, de-haunting houses in a new ghost removal service. As soon as they open their doors, their first order of business becomes saving beautiful cellist Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) and nerdy Louis Tully (Rick Moranis), who’ve inadvertently opened the gates of hell… right in their own apartment building!

The scene with Zuul abducting Dana is still one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen. Seeing it as a 7 year old gave me nightmares for weeks.
Nah, now The Librarian Ghost turning into a monstrous form and scaring you when you least expect it, now that's scary.

One of the main reasons I love that original film so much is because there was a good amount of horror added in there,and all the ghosts were either pretty scary or creepy looking. They weren't too childish or over the top. And they took the ghosts seriously.

Slimer and Stay Puft Marshmallow Man are cartoony and goofy as hell. And Gozer looks like an extra in a David Bowie music vid.
@@bezoticallyyours83 slimer was actually a little freaky looking in the OG movie. Even Stay Puft who was a joke is still treated as a very serious threat. I always thought the first shot of him in the movie was pretty unnerving for some reason.
videos like these remind me how great of a movie Ghostbusters 2 is. Not just the original. The ghosts like Vigo, Ghost train, the slime, scenes like the subway, river of slime, revelations and discovery scenes, the comedy, the music. All fantastic I love Ghostbusters 2 so much and I wish it’d get the respect it deserves

Then you have Gozer the Traveller, aka Gozer the Destructor. In this form Gozer will destroy the world under a choosen form. Ray idiotically chose the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man figuring Mr. Stay Puft would never hurt anyone. He didn't figure on a hundred foot tall Marshmallow Man.

I always thought Gozer follows a rule where if a real God said to stop Gozer would stop. But Ray said no so his demand was ignored.
This is revisited in game where they say "yes" :P
The funny thing is that Gozer most likely is a being whose form is beyond comprehension.

The Terror Dogs scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. Watching them break out of their Gargoyle-like statues, one pulled Dana towards it, the other chased after Louis. Those things were scary!

In Ghostbusters the Video Game, they visit Gozer’s dimension. It’s a twisted, gothic, and almost hellish version of our world. A place that is constantly ripping itself apart with a massive unending void at the bottom. You specifically are in the Gozerian version of the New York public library in the game, which is a massive gothic palace with books and torturers souls flying about, the entire place just ripping itself to shreds. Then there points where the Gozerian realm and our dimension cross together, in this you catch a glimpse of the Hotel Sedgewick, which in Gozer’s world appears to be a massive den of spider’s, and Central Park which is a massive cemetery

The practical and optical effects of Ghostbusters (1984) still look incredible.

I thought that taxi driver ghost was cool. Yeah he looked scary but I always thought it was kind of him to get where the guy wanted to go even if he did drive like a maniac lol

They left out a lot. The Subway Ghost from GB1, and the Central Park Jogger, Titanic Ghosts, Four-Armed Theater Ghost, and (one of my favorites) the Washington Square Ghost from GB2.
I'm a little disappointed that the Ghostbusters official channel listed Vinz Clortho as Zuul. One distinction is the horns. The other is easier still: Vinz Clortho was after Tully's mortal form, Zuul was after Dana. Easy peasy.
As mentioned by other astute fans Gozer and the manifestation of Mr. Staypuft were one in the same, and Vigo is spelled with only one G.

As you mentioned, Mr. Stay Puft was the manifested, (chosen) Destructor form of Gozer the Traveler.
According to Tobin's Spirit Guide, the Sumerian god Gozer is a class 7 exiled deity, once worshiped by the Mesopotamians and Hittites.
A rival cult, which worshipped the goddess Tiamat, Gozer's sibling, opposed the Gozerian's goal of universal destruction.
Encouraged by their deity, Tiamat's followers performed the rituals necessary to to banish Gozer from our plane of existence, forcing the Destructor to become a Traveler, lost among the (infinite) dimensions.
Though exiled from this plane, Gozer was not entirely forgotten -- its followers dwindled in number over the millennia but never stopped trying to summon their fallen god back to Earth.

Ghostbusters 1 and 2 has some of the most creative ideas in a film with ghosts. I watch 1 and 2 every Halloween and is so great to watch anytime too.

No matter what anyone says, Ghostbusters 2 will always be an absolute classic right along with first one.
I always thought that till friends and I watched them back to back...then you notice the huge drop in quality, though I still enjoy it.

OK I guess I'm going to be "that guy", deep breath, Gozer and by extension Zuul and Vinz Clortho aren't ghosts they're inter-dimensional beings one a "god" and the other two their harbingers.
Also the being that the Ghostbusters face on top of the Shandor Building and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man are the same, Stay Puft is their destructor form.
Also Vigo, not Viggo that's Aragorn, isn't a ghost either, he's a sorcerer that hid his soul in his portrait in a last ditch effort to save their life while the un-happy hordes were chopping them up into smaller and smaller bits. I guess he is a bit spirity but not a ghost, just trapped in a painting building up their powers so they can hop out into a new body.

I guess it all comes down to what you classify as "ghosts". I mean spirits, demons, the holy ghost, the undead etc could all fall under a broad term as ghosts.

To be honest, I've always wanted a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Doll, when I saw this movie.
I just love the Ghostbusters movies as a kid in the 1980s. Not only the movies, also the cartoons, the toys, and the 2009 video game. I'm not sure if you do requests from comments but it would be cool that if this channel can do mini ghost bios of information of the ghosts from both movies (or cartoons) just as similar as the video game had done. It would be cool a backstory of the ghosts

I don't think anyone refers to slimer as that. Dan akroyd once stated that he was inspired by Belushi when they came up with slimer because he was supposed to be in the movie but died. But I've never heard anyone call slimer the ghost of John Belushi.

Since there were two demon dogs, the one that possessed Dana was Zuul, the one that possessed Louis is named Vinz.
You can see the difference in personalities. Zuul was strategic in securing a victim where Vinz just attacked.
First scene ... scariest scene in both films. But I don't think the terror dogs/Zuul and the Keymaster, nor Gozer were really "ghosts" as much as they were demons.
2:10 is not Zuul, it's Vinz Clortho. Zuul appears at 0:18.

The terror dog that attacked Louis was Vinz Clortho the Key Master of Gozer, as shown previously, the one that appeared in Dana Barrett's fridge was Zuul the Gate Keeper. I always thought the Scoleri Brothers were the scariest looking of all the ghosts in Ghostbusters myself.
Actually Vinz is also in Dana's fridge. It is possible to identify them by the difference in the length of their horns.

My younger self used to get up early in the morning. I was barely able to turn on TV and insert some VHS, but the other day I did exactly this. Felt a little uncomfortable on my parents' sofa early in the morning für the next couple of days :)

Really, gonna call the Terror Dog that posses Louis Zuul, the Gatekeeper? Zuul was the one that possed Dana, saw it in her fridge and again in her kitchen as she's being dragged in. Had plenty of Zuul scenes that could have been included, especially the Dana possed scenes. Vinz Clortho, the Keymaster, was the Terror Dog in Louis's closet and possed Louis. Had scenes of Vinz that could have been included, mostly of Louis possed. And Gozer was in two forms, the Gozer the Gozerian form they depicted here and the Gozer the Traveller, aka Gozer the Destructor, form that appeared as Stay Puft thanks to Ray. Wish the folks who compiled this video for the DVD collection had mentioned that.
I love the librarian ghost I remember when I was a kid she would scare the hell out me but ray my gives one of my favorite lines in the first movie there when he said get her. that was a great plan

I always got confused when everyone can see vinz clortho terror dog when it is sully’s apartment but when he is yelling for help no one can see the terror dog can someone explain that to me.

Vinz Clortho the 'Keymaster' was after Louis and Zuul the 'Gatekeeper' had already possessed Dana. I have no idea how the "official" Ghostbusters channel skipped that detail about Vinz.
