My biggest problem this year was assuming that I could still grow seedlings in May. It was already hitting 95 heat index down here a few weeks ago. Between that and the storms and the bugs, I think my seed-starting season is going to have to end in April next year. I guess I'll start all my seedlings indoors in like January. Ridiculous, but that's the world we're living in now I guess.

Interesting. Once we hit highs steadily in the 80s, I will start seedlings in the garden if I need more. Just make a bed of fine soil and compost, and then transplant out of that bed. Good luck with your graden.

@@TheBackGardenYard I tried it all this year. Direct sowing, starting seedlings outdoors in containers and trays, starting them indoors, starting them on the porch, etc. Varying success with all of that. But if the plants aren't at least two feet high by early May, they aren't gonna survive in my location unless I put them in a greenhouse or something. A little 3-inch-tall seedling doesn't stand a chance against a solid week of 25-mph winds, I'm afraid.
Now, I'm mostly talking about tomatoes and peppers. Everything else I just direct sowed and most of it came out pretty good. But next year I'm starting all the tomatoes and peppers indoors and on the porch, then putting them in the ground immediately at the last frost date when they are already a decent size. Not sure what else to do.

Thanks for the video. I always learn something from your content. Just want to make sure that I understand when and if to use compost. Is there a percentage of compost to other material to be used when planting? Is there a percentage of manure to other material to be used in planting? I have some compost in the making and want to be sure that I don’t make mistake when using it. I appreciate your videos.

If you are using homemade compost, you know what is in it, and you could use up to 50% compost.
With the bagged commercial products I usually use around 30% compost to 70% garden soil. The worst culprit is insects, fungi, and bacteria problems if you use too much compost. Thanks for watching.
