    So much wonderful info! I'm really blown away by your generosity of spirit, sharing your knowledge to help us with our skin care concerns/questions! Going to use my Differin for the 1st time tonight (a baby pea-sized amount of Differin, on skin that has been washed and moisturized *and* I will protect those orifices!). See? I paid attention! ♥

    Thanks for sharing your insights on the perils of stress. I know that this is something that I need to work on, especially since so much right now is out of my control (family stuff). And I am happy to see you making your own almond milk. I have been making it for about six months now and love it too. I do it the same way, just make sure that you toss that gunky water that the almonds soaked in. It supposedly contains some nasty chemical released from the almonds. I also add a bit of salt, which is supposed to help soften the nuts. When I am pressed for time, I make cashew milk - a shorter soak time (2 hours rather than 8-12) and no straining is necessary. It turns out creamier than the almond milk. And oh - to sweeten the almond milk in particular, some folks use dates; sometimes I do, sometimes I do not. Since I have been doing Whole30 I am not allowed added sugar or artificial sweetener, and dates have been a lifesaver for me. Have a great weekend!

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 років тому

      Great tips mirckca! I did in fact drain the soaking water off the almonds, but good to know it is a necessary step. I am liking it as is, with no additives for drinking purposes. For the yogurt, however, I added a 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup per 6-8 cups of the almond milk because the cultures require a sugar source to ferment to make the yogurt. Hope you are having a great night!

    Hi Dr. Dray! I purchased a Clarisonic a LONG time ago. I didn't feel like it cleaned my face very well, and so now it just sits and collects dust. About a year ago, when I went to a dermatologist for my "suspicious moles", I circled them with a pen. It's nice to know that that wasn't weird.

    Dr. Dray, I used to use a clarisonic. My dermatologist said it was okay but not everyday. So I tried the darn thing. Well it made my Rosacea get a little worse. So I stopped using it. I have talked with others who have different skin issues and they said the same thing happened to them. My opinion it is too harsh and most people tend to push it in the skin while using it which is probably why it is not so great.

    Hello Dr., new sub here from Germany. Absolutely love your channel and it's professional and science based approach to skincare. Your advice has saved me tons of money on skincare products. I can't get everything you recommend here but I found some subs and can order from iherb too. Your advice is so much more valuable and trustworthy than any beauty or skincare vlogger or guru on UA-cam and I thank you so much for taking the time and effort to impart your expertise and knowledge to us.
    I get hives every time I take a shower on my torso and arms-it's the hot water that causes it seemingly as I've ruled everything else out, and I get it whether I'm in a hard or soft water area. Have you ever heard of this before? They go after about 20 minutes if I dress straight away and don't scratch them so I've just put up with it for years. Apart from showering in cold water is there anything else I could be doing to prevent or mitigate them?
    thank you. :)

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  6 років тому

      Thanks! Yes, hot water absolutely does elicit a bout of hives. It has nothing to do with the hardness of the water, but rather heat can trigger mast cell degranulation, which leads to hives. Also, rubbing the skin and wearing tight clothing will further exacerbate

    • @greenknitter
      @greenknitter 6 років тому

      Ok, thank you for your response. I notice it also in the summer if I sweat a lot so that makes sense that it's heat that leads to them. I don't want to take anti-histamines every day after I shower so all I can do then is avoid those things you mentioned that make it worse. Vielen Dank!

    (FYI: I suffer from mild to moderate rosacea, which I've successfully held at bay with better skin care. This has also helped with my oily skin and breakouts.) Out of curiosity, I tried out a friend's Clarisonic, while we vacationed together. (I did buy and use my own brush head, for that week... so in the end I only wasted $30, instead of $200.) It's DEFINITELY NOT something I would recommend to other folks with ROSACEA. Even with the brush for sensitive skin... this was waaaaay too much aggravation for me. And it really didn't take me more than 2 nights of usage to figure this out. My rosacea did flare up and I had breakouts, by the morning of day 3. My friend - who had very oily skin and gets a lot of breakouts - still uses hers, every night. She feels it removes her makeup better. - She wears mostly full coverage foundations and lots of concealer and powders. I, on the other hand prefer a tinted moisturizer with SPF30... and sometimes even a layer of mineral foundation, also with SPF, if I am outdoors. (I also always apply a layer of SPF30, before the tinted moisturizer.) - Despite her "super cleans", the oiliness and breakouts are still any issue... BUT, she feels that her skin is "cleaner." (I happen to disagree.) - I currently use the 2% BHA, by Paula's Choice and this seems to give me sufficient and gentle exfoliation. (I started with the 1% version, at night... and have slowly worked my way up to easily tolerate the 2%, twice a day.) My friend also suffers from what looks like milia, around her eyes. We figured out that her eye cream might be the culprit. She had a professional extraction done and then stopped using the eye cream.... and never had issues with milia, again. (I've never used eye cream, myself, but instead apply my regular moisturizer, slightly diluted with a bit of water, around the eye area... at night.)

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  6 років тому

      Yikes! eye creams don't cause milia, fyi

    Thanks for all the info :) I get chronic allergic reaction that I thought were hives but not according to what you explained a hive is. My reaction are "welt-like" patches that are extremely itchy and gives me a feverish feeling (hot & cold at the same time) and sometimes it lasts for days at a time. Poultry and weather changes used to be the trigger but after having my first child, I have been able to eat poultry without any reaction to it. I don't know what triggers it anymore because it comes and go randomly. I used to take benadryl but it stopped working for me so now, I just go to my doctor to get a cortisone shot and a round of prednisone whenever it flares up. I take a zyrtec in the morning and singulair at night for maintenance. This routine seems to have lessened my episodes but I feel like I will soon build an immunity to the zyrtec and singulair as well. If it's not hives, what do you suggest it could be?

      joolsgoomunch so glad it was helpful! Could be a variety of things so best to go back to a dermatologist or other provider. That historical point about the duration might help and if you go when the rash is active, or at least have a clear photograph (taken in natural lighting is best) that will further help the evaluation. Hope this helps and that you are having a great day!

    Thanks for your clarification re the Clarisonic. I've been on the fence about getting something like this for a while, now. Common-sense tells me that because of my roascea, I should likely avoid anything that involves exfoliation. Also, I have to wonder about bacterial build-up on the brush-head, which also irks me more than somewhat. Another greatly informative video.

    I adore your videos; and you are so humble and knowledgable. I have very dark and dry elbows. I tried avocado oil, exfoliation and a plethora of other over the counter creams. The doctor said it could be eczema but not sure. I have never had eczema. However, the doc gave me a prescription for a cream that the pharmacist mixed. That didn't help either. Could you please kindly advise if there is solution for me? I am self conscious wearing shorter sleeves with these elbows. :-(. Thanks Dr. Dray! :-).

    Dr Dray, thank you for commenting on Clarisonic. The company makes it sound like it does something special that nothing else can do because of its 300 oscillations per second. Nothing a nice affordable AHA won't do along with being easier for entire-body exfoliation :)
    I have used it for about a week some 5-6 years ago. Meh, I didn't feel anything special, especially considering the amount of money you pay for one. So I returned it :D

    I have a Clarisonic and I absolutely love it and it gets my face so clean. When I'm done I'll even wipe witch hazel over my face with a pad and no makeup comes off and a lot of times I wear a lot of makeup. And I do have a few slight broken capillaries that I've had since before using the Clarisonic and they have not worsened and I do have mild rosacea and that has not worsened either. I do use Retin-A and I do use Paula's Choice BHA as well not on the same days I only use Retin-A on Wednesdays I use Paula's Choice on Mondays and Fridays and I moisturize are on Tuesdays and Thursdays to give my face a break in between. This has really been working out for me. I watch another doctor dermatologist on UA-cam Doctor Davin and he says the Clarisonic is healthy for your skin and highly recommends it. I guess I just get confused with what one dermatologist says from the other. The only thing that I'm really combating is just turning 40 I've noticed just the slightest bit of creepiness under my eyes I have had this since before using the Clarisonic and I've tried multiple things and was wondering what you would suggest for that being via laser or cream and so forth?

    I am so happy I found this.. I have been suffering from hives for a few months now and i cant seem to find the reason. It started when I was going through a tough time in my phd and I notice that it really gets worse when I'm more stressed.. Unfortunately I don't have an insurance to see a doctor and it will cost me a lot.. I am living on anti histamines and i dont know what else i can do..

    Do you recommend differin for aging skin? I am 39 with normal to dry skin and want to tackle some fine lines. If you don't recommend differin, what do you suggest?

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 років тому +2

      Marjory H. It is not FDA approved for fine lines and wrinkles. Tretinoin (retin a) is however approved for that and is likely more effective. It requires a prescription and is not otc.

    What do you recommend for repairing skins barrier? I started getting hormonal acne got first time in my life at 32. Fast forward to a year ago, my skin started getting very dry from retin-a treatment. I went to sephora & was told to exfoliate bc I had dry flakes. I was already exfoliating. So I started using a kognac sponge morning & night. My acne got way better. I scrubbed way too hard got way too long also. Recent months I noticed my skin just looks awful. The texture looks like sand paper & I had lots of itching. I stopped using the kognac & noticed immediate improvement. But not where it was. I use cetaphil wash & cerave moisturizer already. Should I hold off on skin treatments for awhile or add something to my routine?

      Denise Ontiveros hi and welcome. Sound glad you found the channel! Acne scars are tough. Retinoids, both systemic (accurate) and topical (tretinoin, tazorotene) can actually slowly improve acne scars. I recommend seeing a dermatologist because if you are no longer experiencing active new acne break outs, there are a some resurfacing (i.e. Fraxel) that offer further improvement. Hope this helps

    Could you please comment on whether or not Vit C., BHAs and AHAs can be used in combination with each other and with niacinamide/ceramides? I've read that Vit. C cannot be used with moisturizers containing niacinamide. I'm so confused about which chemicals/acids etc. work in combination together and which counteract each other. My goal is anti-aging - for lack of a better word. I'm 66. Thank you so much for demystifying the myriad ingredients and for the terrific information you are providing for the proper treatment of skin. I'm also interested in your vegan recipes. Thank you again.

      i really cann't comment on this as it is all cosmetic propaganda, in terms of vitamin C serum. I would skip doing all three, or if anything just pick one thing and stick with it.

      Well, I'm actually trying it already and it is diminishing in size. Is it not possible for it to reabsorb completely?
