You have to be a registered voter to vote in any given district to become a registered voter you have to be a registered United States citizen

Aside from some local jurisdictions where they allow non-citizen residents to vote for things like local school board or city councilor. Those get a separate ballot is my understanding

Not in my lifetime have I seen such a shameful Speaker of the House. At 68 years of age, I have always voted as a Democrat, however there have been Republican Speakers that earned some (not all) of my respect. But Mike Johnson is an utter disgrace. When he says “we all know”, and “intuition”, he clearly shows he has no business as Speaker, and really should not even be an elected representative. He comes across to me (but I won’t say ‘we all know’) as the lawyer in the courtroom talking down to a jury. Sorry Mike, we aren’t buying this, and never have.

I’m a citizen, born into it, and a liberal, and I don’t think non-citizens should have the right to vote. That’s a right that comes with citizenship. Period. I also don’t believe there is MASSIVE voter fraud. I believe most non-citizens don’t want to call attention to their status and possibly be deport. They try to keep a low profile.
But these conservatives have convinced themselves that all liberals/leftists/progressives/etc. want illegal immigrants to vote. They need some way to explain why they keep losing and making immigrants the scapegoat is their way of preserving their ego, when in fact Americans just aren’t voting for them.

Mike Johnson......registering to vote is an application process. The state registrars office checks your citizenship status and if you are not a citizen, your application is rejected.
The idea that these people, who are supposedly hiding from “the law”, would purposely do something that would have them carded, is bonkers. 🙃😵💫

I thought that you have to be registered to vote first and when you go vote,they ask for your ID,then check and see if you are on the list,check your address to see if you are in the right place and if everything checks out,they give you a ballot and you vote?? Can a non citizen sit on a jury?
No, as a legal immigrant living in the USA from 2010 to 2013 I could not vote, sir on a jury, or get a US Passport. I got my naturalization papers in 2013, and after that was able to register to vote, get my passport, and have since served on a jury.

When I voted at my local precinct, I never had to produce ID. My name was on the list and I had to sign in after they located my name and address on the list. My identity was established when I registered and there’s no need for ID after registration.
You must be young, because voter ID is a recent “innovation” pushed by Republicans. For most of our history, voter ID was considered to be a form of poll tax and was not allowed. It’s only since successive Republican administrations and their judicial appointments have successfully allowed states to enact such laws that we have seen an increase in state mandated voter ID laws. Multiple studies have shown that voter ID requirements do decrease voter turnout since there are always people who end up not having an ID right when they need it for voting. And multiple states have intentionally reduced DMV availability in certain areas to make it more difficult for certain voters to replace old IDs. It’s all part of a voter suppression effort and is a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

I've done the job, total BS. As an election judge you do check the signature of the voter in front of you. There is nothing intuitive about his accusation. Citizenship is handled at registration, that is the purpose of registration.
