I have 3 of the XA11s and am thinking of upgrading to the XA50. I haven't been crazy impressed with the video quality just because the XA11 has such a small sensor and it's hard to go above a 4 or 5 with the fstop because the image gets so dark so quickly. What are your thoughts Gus?
the video is smooth and fluid but the quality doesn't seem as good as G7 downsampled to 1080, I really can't say tho I don't own either one but I'm looking for a solid dedicated video camera.

I had the image stabilization turned on to the highest level and I find it woefully inadequate. You either have to stand extremely still and not move at all almost like a tripod or you need a gimbal. If there is a second setting somewhere that I am unaware of would love to know about it.
I checked the wide DR mode and Highlight priority mode. Highlight priority mode appeared more like footage with crushed highlights (looked similar to Raw footage). While wide DR looked very bright and high key kind of look. What is your opinion about both these and which one do u prefer for documentary shooters ?

What are the major advantages of XA11? I use the camera primarily for music/opera performances for 100 - 500 audience. Thanks!
Eddie Yeung thank you! Glad you liked it. The XA11 has the top handle that allows you to connect up to 2 xlr mics, which gives more options to use better microphones, I use the Rode NTG3. It also has infrared recording, and the zebra lines which tells when the image is overexposed. If these are features relevant to your needs, go with the HF G21, also a great camera.👍
I'm trying to get an external rode mic set up and the sound isn't as good as it is with the built in. I've went into the settings and turned up the volume mode for that I think.
elOmarValdivia it has very good image stabilization, it’s the same one they put on the Canon XF405. “5 axis stabilization”. When you turn power IS ON, it does crop in on the image a little, but it’s still great. I’ll demonstrate in a future video.

I would like to add for anyone wondering about how the XA11 optical zoom range compares with a DSLR- I've done a very basic check against a full frame Canon DSLR and the zoom equates to 30mm at the wide end and 600mm at the telephoto end. This is a really great zoom range with excellent sharpness throughout togther with first rate Canon colours but you really need a good tripod when using at the maximum zoom. Pleased to bits with my first impressions of this dedicated video camera and how it compares with very expensive DSLR kit requiring a number of lenses to achieve the same focal lengths :)

The XA11 has a 20X optical zoom 35mm equivalent range of 26.8-576mm range with no change in picture quality, if you activate the digital zoom, then the picture quality will slowly get worse. To achieve this same results with a DSLR you would need a 600mm lens which is very expensive.
@@GusDaCosta Hi Gus, thanks and I saw that spec after posting my comment!! Still interesting though as I was using a Sigma 150-600mm at 600mm and the XA11 zoomed in further than the Sigma. I've read before that Sigma focal lengths are a little 'ambitious' and this appears to confirm it. I dont use the digital zoom.
I have an ax11, I do well with the video part, but with audio I do not know what I do wrong but I don't get any audio. I film and talk and on replay no sound at all. I know nothing about cameras but I usually manage... not this time though. Please help!
Since the camera specs says it has 4 channels , is the mic terminal input (3.5mm) on a separate channel for editing in premiere pro if they are switched to mono or it is on the same channel of one of the xlr?

Jose Castellanos that’s awesome! Yes I would recommend, I do use it indoors a lot. You can increase the dB gain in low light situations. Hope this helps.

Destination X Terra I believe this camera would be great for hunting, having that zoom is amazing, no changing lenses, ability to plug XLR Mics on camera. It also depends if you are planning on doing photos, this is not a good camera for photos, but very good for video.

The Haunted Hunts I personally have mine setup to avchd 28mbps LCPM. That’s strange. Try moving the camera slower on the slider and changing to a higher aperture.

The Haunted Hunts they must’ve sent you a PAL version and not NTSC, if that’s the case you won’t be able to change the frame rate.

The Haunted Hunts if you are planning on slowing the footage down in post, shoot in 50, otherwise you can shoot in 25.
