this video was filmed a while ago and, in hindsight, I need to make two points: 1. I still haven’t heard anyone use “agoo” or “huu” as “hello” over the phone. But considering the contexts within which “agoo” is used, I’m thinking - and agree with those who have made this point - that we could use that. But with language being conventional, it’ll take a collective effort to convince society to accept and use “agoo” in place of the “hɛloo” that we’ve been using. If you agree, then it starts with us. 2. “later” is “akyire yi“, not just “akyire“
well said....agoo is used when entering someones house ; no way it can be used to replace hɛlo; huu is mostly used to send a signal to someone especially when u are in the forest
Y'all I went and bought his ebook and mp3 and its really high quality. I was gonna find a teacher to teach me once I go to Ghana but his materials give me a better start than I expected
Yaw does such a great job explaining how certain words and phrases are used in Twi as compared to what is said in English. In addition, Yaw describes the social context in which to say certain words and phrases. Well done!
I am soo grateful Yaw. U are one of the few people in GHANA that has taken devotion time and patience to have these lessons with us. I have been insearch 4 youtube lessons lile yours all my life. Im sooo thankfull amd happy God bless u

I think it helps to have friends within Ghana. That's Kojo my bro and my Sis in law Abena they are in Ghana, i hope to greet them one day in twi with your help from these great videos! Meda wo ase nso mefiri England, Uk. #Ay3late
Thank. you for your lessons in TWI! I appreciate this very much. Just a note: call/calling is a verb. A verb is an action word. Something that you can do. A noun is a person, place or a thing. Thank you, again!
Thank you, too 😊. On the part of speech of "call/calling", yes they can act as both a verb and a noun. That's why I gave the Twi for both the verb and noun forms. When you say "We call him everyday", the "call" here is a verb alright. But when you say "We gave him a call", the "call" here isn't a verb, obviously. That's a noun, hence the article "a" before it. Similarly, when you say "We are calling him", the "calling" in it is certainly a verb. But if you say "Our calling pissed him off", this "calling" isn't a verb; it's a noun, specifically what we call a gerund. That is why we are able to 'possess' it with the possessive adjective "our". You'll find both forms in any standard English dictionary. Medaase pii 😊
Thanks to your videos I'm surprising my ghanian girlfriend with new phrases every day :D keep up the good work. I hope, I'll be able to be fluent in Twi someday. Hope that Ghana will open the borders as soon as possible that I can visit my girlfriend and my Ghanian friends again. Greetings from Germany ✌

Thanks for the video! The fact that you always say the words a couple times really helps. It would be nice, if you could give examples of right that means natural intonation as well.
Hi Yaw, thanks for breaking down how various words are composed. I'm looking forward to finding out the meaning of 'si' as in 'Ahoma no retwitwa si.' I also think that I need to start writing my comments in Twi. lololol
Damn I love it how well you explain Twi. I knew it was obviously not gonna be just phrases to memorize without context within Twi, but it's something, I at least appreciate a lot. I feel increasingly prepared to try out simple conversations when I arrive in Ghana this November, much thanks to you . Medaase paa me nua! 🙌👐🙌👐🙌👐🙌👐🙌👐🙌
H3loo me nua yaw, mepa wo kyew, when you say gyina so simma is it also right if i say gyina so baako simma or gyina so simma baako is that also correct t use the actual number in that sentence? Medaase
"gyina so simma baako" would be the correct one. Adjectives generally come after the nouns they describe, the opposite of the arrangement in English. But if it's just one minute, then there's really no need including the number part as "a minute" says it efficiently. 😊

Your alphabet must sound out different to Australian as I am finding this very hard and my man is from Ghana

in "wode nkra b3gya?" what does "b3gya" mean? 14:08
bɛ - future tense marker "will"
gya - to leave behind
Maybe we should reform iback to agoo !
interpretation of the “agoo” word can also be expressed via phone or text . Or rather say it should !
I agree, Kwabena. Please see my pinned comment at the top.
Agoo sounds so sweet and boisterous at the same time . It also sounds like it was meant to cut through the atmosphere .

Y "huu" :(
