@ Bourbon country reacts he has made songs with blatantly racist lyrics. Including a song titled N***** Lover. And he used the n word in another one of his songs as well. It's very cringe worthy. 😬 some of his songs like the one in this video are good but don't be fooled.
My favorite part is that he changed his singing voice to imitate Merle, Charlie etc. This is just a classic! Even this 63year old silver haired lady can’t resist singing that last verse.. Loudly.
Oh my gosh! I have never heard of anyone over 14 that had not heard this song before. I wonder if they have heard of Grandma got run over by a reindeer?
"...she got runned over by a damned ole train." Used to drink and play cards with a group of friends and we often played this song, singing loudly and loving life. Good times.
I remember my parents and friends playing the farming game. I didn't understand why they played a game about what they did in real life until I was much older, lol. My first taste of whiskey(that I remember) was while they played that game. None of the kids were supposed to bother the adults, but my tooth hurt. My Dad's solution was whiskey. Damned if it didn't work, but I still have a taste for it
For a more serious David Allen Coe I'd suggest "The Ride" Many of his songs did not get radio play because of controversy with his lyrics and with some of his statements. Also let me suggest another song similar to your discussion at the start of this song. Alan Jackson's "I don't even know your name" A fun reaction.
They should for sure listen to DAC's "Would You Lay With Me?" , this one, live. I mean , the man has some controversial views , but he *is* a lyrical genius. ua-cam.com/video/gPrzgQwpOVg/v-deo.html
This is a classic! When this plays everyone starts singing. There's also special "extra" words inserted but I can't say them here. :-). Love the reaction.
Actually David Allan Coe was not and never has been Outlaw Country..You need to know what Outlaw Country is, or understand the movement..Even Waylon stopped DAC from claiming he was Outlaw..
The XXX album is where most of all his controversial songs are. It was only available by mail order from a biker magazine if I’m not mistaken. We used to listen to it back in the early 90s when I was in high school. It’s wild to say the least.
David Allan Coe did record the now infamous “Tennessee Whiskey” first and is considered the OG Outlaw. Yeah, he’s definitely used some ballsy lyrics in his songs. This song is a classic!
Great, great reaction! It is hilarious, the only thing better is when you're in a honkytonk and they play it on the jukebox and everyone starts singing it. It is an echo song and if you don't know what that means, then ask someone who listens to country on a regular basis. Thanks!☺☺☺
What you probably heard about is a DAC album called XXX. There are a lot of "questionable" lyrics on that and are not for people who are easily offended.
You have the title of this vid wrong. "She" is not in the name. The song is about never getting credit for his music. People would hear his songs on the radio, thinking the singer was someone else (Waylon, Charlie, or Merle).
This is a classic no doubt. My dad got me hooked on it when I was younger. I still listen to it now even though he's passed away. It's a great party song cause everyone sings that last verse lol! And I'm sure everyone knows it well enough to karaoke to it. I could I know that. You like that one check out Alan Jackson's I don't even know your name it's a funny song too.
this is a staple in almost every dance hall, biker bar, country club or bar & the everyone know the chorus & stand up & joins in the singing!!!! Love me some David Allen!!! I still listen to him at 74!!!!
Haven't heard this in years...he is actually from Akron Ohio...when I was in my late teens back in the 70s we use to sing this in the bar I frequented...a few others too like Mickey Gilley's The girls all get prettier at closing time, Waylon Jennings ..Ive always been crazy and his song Good Hearted Woman. ..there are other songs like that ..a lot of funny and good music from all genres back in the day...most of these guys have passed away or are in their 80s now
Great video, of a country classic. Steve Goodman wrote this song, along with John Prine, they were buddies. John told Steve to take the writing credits, cause he didn't think he wrote much of it. DA Coe had a big hit of it. Steve Goodman bought John a jukebox for his help. Truly a great moment in country song writing. Lol
If you ever take request songs from the comment section,,please react to,"CHEROKEE FIDDLE Johnny Lee, it about ,similar to what keith did when playing gigs, this guy did it for the whiskey, in the song,I think yall will like it's got FIDDLE playing in it to ,I just wish one reactor's would react to it, , it from the movie URBAN COWBOY, WITH JOHN TRAVOLTA ,ITS AN 80s movie , but the movie soundtrack is awesome, watching from a small town in Virginia
It's not as well known because he requested not to be on the credits, but this was actually co written by John Prine. John Prine (recently lost to Covid) was an american song writing legend. That third verse is some CLASSIC John Prine lyrics. Hes written more serious stuff too but he NEVER loses that cheeky, humorous touch here and there.
Steve Goodman wrote it with John Pryne . Crazy enough Steve Goodman also wrote and performed a song about Chicago cubs before his death and a verse is sung at Wrigley field after every home win. He also wrote City of New Orleans (Willy Nelson) and Banana Republics ( made famous by his friend Jimmy Buffett who he met in Chicago ) .
DAC came in the 7-Eleven where I was working graveyard shift. He looked so old and tired, and I was so busy thinking “Is that really him? In my store?” That I couldn’t even talk to him. He has written some of the most beautiful, and also some of the raunchiest, I’ve ever heard.
I'm a little older than the both of you. I grew up w Country Music coming out the stereo in the barn while we milked cows & did chores. When I was older, we used to punch this up on the juke box, told you I'm older, and sing along with All the "echos"!! Those were some great times...
I read somewhere that this song was kind of a tribute to his early days when he was playing gigs and covering songs by Waylon, Merle, and Charlie. If you listen closely to the first verse, you can hear how he changes up his voice to imitate each of them.
How buzzed do y’all get if you do more than one review at sit down..Lol. I think I would like to see a review after y’all had a few too many to some crazy out there song.
Written by the great Steve Goodman, and an uncredited John Prine (LEGEND). D.A.C also pulls off impeccable impersonations of all the great country singers he mentions. His Merle Haggard is bang-on, imo.
Went with some friends one night to see him at some little bar in Jax Beach. He has the ac turned off because he says it affects his voice. The place was packed and we were SWEATING, lol, but we all about lifted the roof singing along to this one. Great bar song.
David Allen Cole used to sell albums of raunchy songs in an advertisement in Easy Rider magazine. Songs like “I made Linda Lovelace gag.” So yeah he had a reputation for some raunchy lyrics.
I am 37 and I am a huge metal and rock fan and I knew David Allan Coe when I was like 5 years old. I am glad y'all enjoy it it. I have to idea how this song slipped past you guys all these years.
So, I've enjoyed so many of David Allan Coe songs over the years. He has lots of really good mainstream songs. Having said that, I stumbled accross some of his really nasty stuff last year. And I mean really nasty! Hey, I'm 72 years old, a Vietnam Vet, and I'm a retired police officer. Some of his stuff goes beyond the pale. But, I still laugh at this

John prine and steve Goodman wrote it as a good, john didn't want songwriting credit because he thought it would go nowhere. Steve bought him a 10000 dollar jukebox after it became a hit
I listened to this song in college and the entire bar would sing….thanks for the memory…this is such an awesome song….and I loved when you got to the last verse
I saw him at bike week in Daytona. The song is about music listeners not knowing who David Allan Coe was. When his songs would come on, people thought he was Waylon, Merle or some other mainstream artist.

Saturday night. 1 light country town. Nothing to do so we would all meet down a dirt road around a bon fire to jam out in the middle of a field. Homemade wine being passed around and David Allen Coe blaring on either an 8 track or cassette. And yes. He has some very explicit lyrics to some of his songs. But that was half the fun. Making me homesick for my best friend now but damn, those were some good times.
I hear that... definitely takes me back to the dirt roads and bon fires. Or a bar full of people singing this song at the top of their drunken lungs lol .. I can hear it in my head. Great song.
I was so waiting for y'all to get to the end last verse and your reaction didn't let me down. LOL There's a song by Tracy Byrd called "the truth about men". I'd love to see your reaction 💜

This is the kind of country my Dad played. This is definitely a classic. He had to be selective about when to do the last verse according to where they were playing.
There was two other endings that songwriter, Steve Goodman, added to the song: 1. This first one he included dead dogs, farms, and Christmas (along with getting drunk, mother, prison, trucks and trains) and it goes like this: Ever since the dog got drunk and died and Mama went to prison Why nothing ‘round this farm has been the same And John, you know when Mom broke out last Christmas She drove that whole get away laundry truck right into a train 2. This one, Goodman only included: Mother, prison, farms, trucks, and trains. And it goes like this: Ever since the day my mama went to prison Ain’t nothing ‘round this farm has been the same And you know that when they let her out last Tuesday She drove her goddamn truck into a train
my old friend!!! My ex wrote a few songs for him!!! David \'s song is played in almost every bar & honky-tonk out there in Texas!!! We always shout it out - the song is then followed by Hank Jr's Family Tradition - bar version!!!! Love DAC
A rebel... I remember the 1st time I ever met and saw him in concert... I was a waitress and this Entertainment Center and I knew he was country but no face for reference... lol. I agreed to waitress for them and he comes through the doors, the floor and on to the stage riding his FREAKING HARLEY... lol wearing jeans, leather vest, no shirt, hat, and his beard hanging to his stomach in 4 braids with beads at the ends... no fucks given... lol was one THE ROWDIEST concerts I worked and I worked several by this time in all types of Concerts... lol I think it was his entrance... 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️😄😄😄
I just tripped across this older review you guys did. It's another DAC tune you can't pass up and he has a lot of them. He also works with lots of the artist's you'll want to hear. Like some of the commenters below have said, a few of his songs are un-PC or considered cringeworthy in many circles. Some need to be listened to in the context of the song and aren't meant to be cringeworthy in my opinion. Enjoy in any case! The Aimless One
Wow! I can't believe you've never heard of him! I'm from Alabama, and from going out to bars and being a bartender for years, this song is karaoked EVERYWHERE!!!
DAC was such a wild uncontrollable dude. He actually became very good friends with Dimebag and Vinnie. They did a great album together called Rebel meets Rebel. I remember DAC telling a story about how his dad was a drunk and his mom showed up at the bar and told him to get his ass home and grabbed his drink and before taking a swig said "jack daniels if you please, knock me to my mf'n knees", and that's the name of one of his songs, haha

“If that ain’t country” and “the ride” are two of his serious good songs
Definitely need to listen to these two songs.

Such a great tribute song. Last verse is so funny!
my old friend!!! My ex wrote a few songs for him!!! David \'s song is played in almost every bar & honky-tonk out there in Texas!!! We always shout it out - the song is then followed by Hank Jr's Family Tradition - bar version!!!! Love DAC
Keith: "Democratic process."
Dustin: "'merica."
Keith: "Votes count, bribes count faster."
Me: "So....also, 'merica."
Haha.
LOL, yep. Our point. - Keith
David Allen Coe also recorded "Tennessee Whiskey".
I think with this one, that's two DAC tunes we've reacted to, and enjoyed both. - Keith
Written by John Prine and Steve Goodman.
Lmao I know this song by heart, I love it
Arlo Guthrie song Alice's restaurant
Love it
