Angel is one of the best episodes of S1. His back story and flashbacks are one of the great things about the Buffyverse. We now know Angel is a vampire, but of course a very different one as he has a soul, but is tortured by his past deeds. Great that you are so enthusiastic about this show, and is it just gets better and better. The Seasons following have a much bigger budget, and incredible writers with better special affects and cinematography. Love your reaction to when you realised that Angel was a vampire. Enjoy your journey man.

Fun fact, the character of Darla was supposed to die in the bronx when Willow tossed holy water on her, instead the actress did such a good job impressing that she was written to instead run away and continue for a few more episodes becoming connected to Angel's character before dying in episode 7.

There were a few hints that Angel was a vampire in earlier episodes that you catch on re-watch.
One of the first things he said to Buffy: "I know what you're thinking. Don't worry. I won't bite." and of course only seeing him at night or indoors.
Excellent reaction. Your response to this show is how we, all teens at the time, reacted. A few of us had speculated Angel might be a vampire but in 1997 none of us really thought so. The show is starting to change for the better and for many of us , this was a game changer Excellent job talking about the chemistry with Buffy and Angel. Angel was starting to become a real teen heartthrob and the Buffy - Angel couple is still a vibrant duo to millions to this day.

That was the show's first real banger.Not the last.
Very entertaining reaction. It blindsided me when I first saw it, too. You picked up nicely on the electricity between them when Buffy was bandaging his wound.
SMG and Boreanz really set the standard for chemistry.

Darla is an entertaining villain.
I love how they introduce backstories and flashbacks on buffy, so smooth and well done, It was so long ago, I am trying to remember if I was shocked or not that he was a vampire, but your reaction was priceless;)

One of my favourites. First really good S1 episode.
For me, this is the second best episode of the season, and is probably in my top 25 for the series.
This is the first great episode of the series in my opinion. Many more to come
They deliberately kept it darker in some scenes to set the mood. The biggest blasphemy of Buffy is the "HD Upgrade" that lightened and color-corrected the charm out of the series, along with changing it to a wider aspect - so wide that you can see the cameraman and extras standing in what used to be outside of the shot.
One of my favorite episodes of season 1. And so glad you saw the big reveal there. Great reaction. I can't wait for more Buffy episodes/reactions 😊🙂

Buffy really isn't a very good liar...making up stories isn't her forte.
While we don't see it in the scene in Buffy's bedroom, I believe Angel brushed against the cross he had given her, and the shock and surprise brought out his vampire face. At the end of the episode, he was ready for it, and let it burn him.

You should definitely watch society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one. If you do watch it I recommend the original language with subtitles, the acting was amazing.
This probably has already been mentioned but you should see if you’re watching the original version or the remastered version. The remastered version does some awful things with the lighting and frame size. Not sure which version you’re watching based on your edit though. Buffy’s remastering is sorta known for being the worst.
Agreed. The remaster is so bad. I try to recommend new watchers get the SD versions. It's not just the wide-screen issue but the coloring and lightning is all off.
